Re: Flying Nobles

Anyone put any thought to an Eagle Noble with the ring of fury? Seems he could often be in a very good position to use the 18" soul quench, with the bonus of a 5+ ward when combined with dragon armour. Being magic it could still be used when he marches unlike the reaver bow and leaves a good am...

Re: Lothern Skycutter Attachments

I absolutely love the idea of the eagle eye on the boat. First turn is almost guaranteed no charge, so you might as well take down some cav. Shooting something with an S5 on a 4+ after move, 5+ if long range, and no armor saves, and multiple wounds D3. Fly them near the flank of some enemy knights,...

List tailoring is generally frowned upon. The discussion of a units' merits is usually based upon placing them in an all comers list.

Replace the Sea Guard unit in the original post with archers, how would the story be different? Well the cannon might have died earlier, with more bodies to fight and shoot it, and shoot from further away

Re: Strategy idea: Flying circus with steadfast removal

Sounds a bit like overkill to be honest. Often you won't need 5 ranks to break enemy steadfast since they'll lose ranks to casualties. By the time you hit a unit with 25 Silver Helms to the front and flyers in the flank and rear steadfast is probably the last thing on your mind. That being said, I d...

Re: Teclis List [ETC]

I understand the justification for the extra backup wizards but I'm still having trouble with the cost of it myself. Firstly you already have a super scroll with Teclis. A second scroll in a list is good, but it's not as important as the first scroll in a list. The rod of power can be handy, but as ...

Re: Dual monsters in the Hero slot

I think you're right. I was a little worried about only having a relatively defensive block, but the more I think about it the more I reckon that's ideal for this list. With the Griffons and Phoenix around the block doesn't have to deal the damage. Plus like you say much better for points denial. Ag...

I think you'd be hard pressed to get people to accept that. Would be way too cheap an upgrade if it worked on the rider too.

Unless you're happy with signatures. Of course Life is out as the signature is useless with a 5+ ward save and already healing a wound a turn. But high has pretty solid signatures so one or two from there and the others from light could be alright. If you do get a bit stuck with only one or two usef...

Re: 2500 pts - White Lion Horde - USA Indy GT list

Assuming you're running the Helms in 3 ranks, they would be a lot more effective with 3 more models. Allows you to run 5x3 which gives you a a couple extra ranks in CR but more importantly allows you to break units that would otherwise be steadfast.

I'm quite sure joining characters to fast cav units makes them lose fast cav. As such, you'd do well to replace the character units with helms, as the main reaver advantage is already lost.

Re: My take on how to fix dwarfs. My AB rewrite

Shieldwall seems to give a load of powerful advantages but with no drawback. 2+/6++ save core infantry? No saves vs the trample hits? There's no precedent for that, stomps/impact hits don't ignore saves I thought your intention was to make dwarf play more interesting? I think this mechanic would mak...

Currently the only flaming thing in my list is magic from the loremaster. I think the ability to turn on/off your flaming is very valuable, what with all the 2+ vs flaming things out there. As such, I'm sticking with just magic for now. In a perfect world I'd get flaming sword somewhere in the list,...

I would have like something that makes the LSG i little more unique, nothing too powerful, but something fluffy, that is logical and could actually be a viable reason to choose them over the others. New book should have given them the Naval Discipline special rule instead of the Sea Helm. Totally a...

Re: Loremaster + dual griffons

I would recommend getting swooping strike on those Griffons. 5 S6 attacks is a world away from 4 S5 attacks, and as has been said, you can't afford to get into protracted combats with this list so you need max damage on the charge. To find the points I'd drop the talisman. It's a pretty expensive wa...

Re: White Lions, best way to run them?

No reason to field them 7x2. Field them 5x3 and they can still all attack, but are easier to manoever and will receive less attacks back from wide enemy units. It also leaves more room for another of your units to attack alongside the lions. Lions can function as a block of 14, partly due to the fac...

So I think I've decided on dual Griffons rather than the dragon mage. On making an army around them, I found that I have one dilemna. There aren't enough points for 2 decent sized elite units in special. So it's either two small units (below) or one large unit of phoenix guard. Rough list: Loremaste...

Nope. FAQ says stomps don't benefit from special rules. It just happens at the end of combat same as always. Wicksi, how are you planning to run your Griffon Nobles? Dual monsters in the Hero slot

So with the ability for Nobles to take Griffon's I've been looking into the options of filling the Hero points allowance with ridden monsters. The purpose isn't to go overboard and have a monster mash list (ie Lord on dragon/phoenix, 2 nobles on griffon, 2 phoenixes) but more to utilise the Hero slo...

I like the concept, but to be honest they look a bit.. wrong? Rather than looking like large birds, they look like small birds at a giant scale if you get what I mean. Which is what the original models were I suppose.

Ice dragons sound cool though.

Looks like gem does indeed work on breath.

Does a stomp count as a close combat attack? If you used flaming sword to make the dragons attacks flaming, would the gem work on that too?

I seem to recall that breath weapons can't get bonuses. So your dragons breath wouldn't get the +1 to wound from gem of sunfire.

Dragon mage comes with the ability to buy magic armor, the best spell in the lore of fire and *cough* with a dragon. 1/10? I dont think so... I generally agree with your analysis. Only a couple points. I don't think you absolutely 100% need a scroll caddy with loremaster. Provided you take book of Hoeth, your defence is about as strong as a level 4 with no book. Not great, but not awful either. I agree it's such a shame they missed a tric...

I wouldn't call 58% chance a reasonable success rate. Of course it depends on your interpretation of the word "reasonable" but casting a 58% chance spell means almost half the time you're pretty much giving up the magic phase to your opponent. A successful magic phase relies on continuous ...
