Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

Congratulations! Heavy cav can hit hard and die hard. And maybe that is fitting. They are a hammer and need to hit hard. Cavalry that failed to break whatever they charged had a big problem. There are instances in history were they could grind through an enemy but more often than not they were bette...

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

So here are the 15 strong unit of Warden of Mathlanns battle ready.
I might make five more but I have run out of any kind of cloaks.

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

Ah, sorry to hear that! I guess Tzeentch daemons might be able to out-magic even High elves. As for keeping wizards alive I try to keep them close to my units or behind the lines. I like magic that boost my units. But last game I rolled two miscasts with the same lv2 mage and gone he was. That is a ...

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

I am also considering trying to remodel my 6 Silver helms into a Cothique version of Dragon princes.

But I would really need some good extra bits to pimp them out so they look really Special.
The name would be something like "Riders of the Storm".

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

I have started painting the Wardens now. I also switched out the standard bearer in order to use that old sweet paper banner I posted earlier.
Here is the Champion halfway through.

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

I think you need a lv2 with high magic and Annulian crystal as backseat magican to support the loremaster.
And then think of how you kit him out.

I have two kitbashed loremasters and I am considering a third..

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

Has anyone tried the loremaster and how did it go? I only tried him once with mixed result.
The fact that he can fight and have a wide range of spells to use makes for some nice suprises

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

Interesting stuff. Also makes me think my 10 strong warrior unit with two hand weapons was a good investment. Also, having mages dying sucks. Last game my lv2 with High magic and Annulian crystal dying from two miscast the turn after one another riped the heart out of my magical defence. My lv2 Mist...

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

My Wardens of Mathlann have grown a bit. Lack of cloaks have risen as a problem so it is possible I will have to live with that the fourth rank have none.

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

In idea I got thinking about a crazy BSB with two hand weapons. A shield on the back to cover the greenstuff should do the trick.

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

I am keeping 10 of my former 20 strong warrior unit with sword and shield.
It could be good having 10 skirmishers with a 4+AS and a parry save around.

Re: Facing daemons of Nurgle in WAP - any helpful advice?

Okay, I have read up on nurgle daemons and am thinking the White lions might be good to field. Base nurgle troops have toughness 4 so high strength attack is desireable. Also, with so many monsters the lions ability take those down could be very useful. Add a character with Amulet of Light to make t...

Re: Facing daemons of Nurgle in WAP - any helpful advice?

I am hoping to be able to field 20 Phoenix guard lead by an Anointed of Asuryan (Technically they will be Wardens of Mathlann lead by an Anointed of the Storm).

Also an Amulet of Light would be nice. Maybe on a noble leading my Silver helms

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

I guess I am just partial in regards to our spears. I just like the pike phalanx feel they have. The Sea guard is nice and I might field 20 of them next time

Facing daemons of Nurgle in WAP - any helpful advice?

My friend indicated last time that he wanted ro field his darmons of Nurgle next game.
I have never faced daemons on the tabletop so what do I need to look out for?

I do think it will be a pure nurgle for e at 2000 points

The mighty merwyrm - how large?

In WAP the high elves have access to merwyrms as monsters. And since my army hails from Cothique having one of these beasties seems perfect.

But how large is their base size? And are there any model out there that fits the bill?

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

Indeed, WAP is lethal. The positive side is that our archers actually do damage. And I would never march out without my 10 Sisters of Avelorn. A positive thing is that shields get one extra armour against missile fire from the front so our spears have a +3 armour save against missiles. Which is bett...

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

But lets make some observations. Both our plans went out of the window since we rolled dawn attack. I got slightly better positioning, but still ended up with my strongest unit on the wrong side. One of my best units were my Sisters of Avelorn. They made him hold back his wraith and banshee for the ...

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.

So I just fought a 2000 point battle against my friends VC and while I lost in the end it was still not a given. I did a huge mistake in the beginning charging his generals ghoul horde with my small unit of Silver Helms. I had Strider thanks to magical banner but missed the curcial detail that they ...

An army from Cothique - plans for the future

When I returned to Warhammer I was already aiming for a Cothique army. I also wanted to be true to the background and try to avoid obsessing too much about building optimized lists. Well, my first game was with all I had, and some of it was what I transferred from Oathmark. And I started to think ab...

The importance (?) Battle Standard bearers and other characters in WAP and in general

I start this topic because I always, always ends up having angst when it comes to what characters to take, or not take etc. I made a BSB for my Cothique army that I am rather proud of. She did make my White Lions go down fighting last game. But then I realized I could almost get the same giving the ...

I have edited the list and left the post of General as vacant.

I have 187 points to play with.

I am toying with the idea of fielding a unit of Sea guard instead of the Archers

I already have a dedicated BSB so that role is taken.

Re: 2000 point Cothique list vs Vampire counts (WAP)

Since the Silver helms are, as pointed out, rather few to warrant a hero leading them I figure droping the mounted noble.

But should I put him in the Lion chariot (It is designed so one of the riders can be a hero).
Or should I have him riding an Eagle?

Or just help the Lions or spears?

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

I have a paint scheme in mind for the warrior. A yellowish tone like buff leather for the coat/overtunic. Light blue (blue horror) for undertunic sleeves and Hood. Same buff coat yellow for gloves. I am thinking of the buff leather coats used by swedish troops in the 17th century. Grey cloaks and da...

Re: Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

I decided to not limit this tread to just one unit but decided to include the whole army over time. I was going to make a unit of elf light infantry for Oathmark that I never finished. So I decided to make a unit of 10 warriors with two hand weapons. The minis are mostly wood elves but I will give t...
