Re: Advice for beginner
Just a quick thought: if you want to start learning the game and possibly play with others who are just beginning, make a more beginner-friendly and fun list. Your list looks like a tournament-trimmed list that some lists, especially beginner's lists, struggle against. Resulting in frustrating games...

Dual Cavalry Threats + Dragon
I was thinking of keeping the plan of having a mounted Prince in a unit of Dragon Princes but add an Archmage of Caledor with the Ogre Blade and Illusion/SD. The question is whether to put him into the same DP unit as the Prince or put him into a Silver Helm unit to generate another unit that can tr...

Re: High Elf Arcane Journal - What do you want from it?
If I could wish for something, I would rethink the role of SW. Not everything needs to be focused on damage output - especially SW as their fluff won't fit anyway.T9A was going in a right direction: let them debuff enemies; especially if they interfered with movement would make them very powerful.

Re: Elementalism
However, the text of the rule definitely reads "it may not move AGAIN", hence the implication that a movement has happened already. Since the unit is not allowed to have moved before the spell, this movement must happen with the spell. As a lot of other rules (see e.g. the discussion about...

Re: Assailments and Warden of Saphery
It sounds a bit accusatory to say it’s trying to find loopholes and exploits. We’re just trying to figure out how the rules work. Trying to apply RAI is a slippery slope of bias and assumption and can’t be counted on to land on solid rulings. Unfortunately this edition is poorly written and we have...

Re: Assailments and Warden of Saphery
I still think it shouldn't work. An assailment attack, like a magical missile, should be distinct from "normal" attacks as the magic effect is not within the "normal" skills or control of a person. However, after reading the relevant rules again, the attacks from an assailment sp...

Hm, this FAQ doesn't clear anything but contradicts the wording in the rulebook. It's quite strange.

Re: Assailments and Warden of Saphery
"Normal" assailment spells As far as I see, it is indeed unclear, whether general rules of the model are transferred to any or just some attacks caused by the model. The question is, whether "attacks", caused by assailment spells, are "attacks" in the same way a model ...

Hey, very interesting stuff is going on here - your lists make me curious about trying a star dragon (many lists look a bit boring as everything just focused on the dragon to win - and I play just friendly games). Anyway, I was wondering if...: ++ Characters [998 pts] ++ Prince [508 pts] (Hand weapo...

Re: Skycutter illusion mage thoughts
Exactly. The main thing is, that the AM on SC list is built around him while the AM on LC is 'just' another element in an otherwise self-reliant list. Ofc there are variations in both but the ultra-mobility and fragility of the SC mage makes some elements in the list necessary (additional SC, eagles...

Re: Skycutter illusion mage thoughts
I was also thinking about the AM on Lion Chariot as you forego the White Sword and free some points for protective gear (Seed of Rebirth, ToP) - however, the overall cost is higher and you loose mobility. At the end of the day, this mage plays profoundly different, altering the whole list - not nece...

Re: Need help with understanding 'line of sight' rule
In principle, your reference to the rule means that, yes, if one model of a unit can see another model part of a unit, the first unit sees the other one. In your example, unit A can see unit B and C. However, as p. 137 BBB states, every model that wants to shoot, has to draw a LOS individually. So i...

Actually, I hope more for the Merwyrm as a new behemoth going with the sea guard / seafarer theme.

Re: 2k Sisters & Skycutters - no dragon
That looks like a fun list to play with. And it should have enough hitting power to hold its own in a medium strength environment I think. After giving your list some thoughts, I would like to try something similar. However, I don't really have much experience with a handmaiden general and core sis...

Re: Secret Tech; Wizarding Hat on a champion
The FAQ basically slightly errata'd the wizarding hat text by saying "The wearer of the Wizarding Hat is not actually a Wizard – their magical powers are granted by a haunted hat" so I would say none of the special rules of the character apply to spells cast using the wizarding hat since ...

Re: Secret Tech; Wizarding Hat on a champion
To determine the spells your Wizard knows, roll a number of D6 equal to their Level of Wizardry, re-rolling any duplicate results. I think so as well, as both, item and honor, turn the character into a Level 1 wizard (levels don't stack, that's clear) who, by rules, generates one spell of a legitim...

Re: Shield of Saphery
If it was "until next turn" or even "remains in play" it would be better, but as it stands the only use is for a unit about to charge. Or on stuff you don't want to get shot, either in the first few turns before you get to combat, or on something like a unit of Sisters who don't...

Re: Anvil unit?
I can only agree with what's being said. I mainly struggle to field PG as my elite points want to be spent on something that hits hard. I guess you could run an elite anvil and substitute a hammer from characters (star dragon) and core (SH) but I find it more to my style of play to field a core-anvi...

No. A spell cannot be cast into combat unless stated otherwise as per rulebook. Fury of Khaine on the other hand explicitly states it can be cast onto a unit engaged in combat.

Re: Outstanding High Elf FAQ Questions
As far as I see, the rule is worded quite clearly. A model with this rule may reroll a single failed casting attempt each turn. If you have two mages, each of them can choose to reroll if he fails one of his spells. The reroll, however, is not transferrable. So it's not "you" who has two r...

Truth is, you are right and it doesn't say anything about the maneuver having to be performed in the movement phase. Hence, you can argue the free Redress the Ranks will trigger with any movement.
