Re: Duranthalis' project log (ADD within)

Ugh ... haven't been getting any painting done lately because it's been too hot in the garage. Have a massive backlog, my son is at the stage where he's getting into everything (yay 15 month old explorer) so most of my free time has been spent with him or baby proofing the house. Remodeled one of th...

Re: What are you reading?

I read the existing Game of Thrones books. Killed any interest I had in finishing watching the series. I have gotten some reading in (other than to my son): "Dead Wake" by Erik Larson (about the sinking of the Lusitania) "Angels in the ER" by Robert Lesslie (true stories from his...

New GW announcement Mordh... Shadespire!

New announcement from GW ...

AoS Skirmish rules for fighting with warbands. Earn renown to increase the might of your warbands between games. All in an urban setting where the goal is to hunt for treasure.

Mordheim? Nah ... they renamed it to Shadespire.

Might be worth a look.

I think I stared at the video with disgust for about .... the entire length.

Then I remembered what day it was and laughed

Wrapping up "Soul on Fire - The Life and Music of Peter Steele" (as one of my favorite bands is Type O Negative) Just starting on "Secondhand Souls" by Christopher Moore (when I first started reading his works, I found them to be hit or miss but have since found them to be a ligh...

Summoning and points?

I'm trying to figure out how summoning works towards points/warscroll/wounds limit (or whatever people use these days). I've read a lot of rules that basically set aside a pool for summoning that counts towards your total points limit. That makes sense, it would be like having troops in reserve. Mor...

Re: Rogue One (Spoilers)

Overall, I loved it. I felt it was well paced (maybe rushed a touch in some scenes?) and had a good "fun adventure" feel to it. I ranked it behind Empire (my favorite) and alongside A New Hope, ahead of Force Awakens. Best part? OMG STORMTROOPERS CAN HIT STUFF! I can't wait for an ex...

Pretty much mostly done with the base of the woods. Just need to add some flock to it and it should be good to go. Haven't done more to the trees than prime them.

As if I didn't already have enough on my plate ... Xmas came along.

Most Wonderful Wife (MWW) got me the new Alarielle model. The huge one on the beetle. I love the sculpt and am looking forward to working on it ... I just hope I can do it justice!

Re: Duranthalis' project log (ADD within)

Unfortunately, my pile of "next project" is piling up faster than I can get through it. I fixed that by taking a wife who keeps asking why I need more new models while I still have unpainted / unassembled ones lying around. ;) She has a point though. So I try to buy as few models as possi...

Re: Duranthalis' project log (ADD within)

There is always a next project / model to paint ;) Starting to look nice. I like the stairs. Great for skirmish style games. The forrest reminds me that I have to start painting my own as well. Has been lying on the to-do pile for 2 years now I think... I'll get to it. Someday. Rod Unfortunately, m...

My incoming package has arrived. It's fantastic, pictures later.

My outgoing package is in the mail, should reach the destination before Xmas. However, as I handed it over to the postal worker, I realized I had forgotten to take pictures.

Assembling and painting a Soviet Strelkovy army and a Soviet Tankovy army for Flames of War when I'm not working on other stuff. Other than that, not really interested in other games. WWII is pretty fascinating to me.

Re: 101st Airborne Space Marine

While the paint job is fantastic from a technical sense, I personally don't care for the color scheme. It's too "Captain America" or something for my tastes. Maybe it's the bold red/white/blue. However, I really like the more muted color scheme on the tactical trooper in the 2nd photo. Als...

Re: If you could get any GW model...

Any model? At all? I would get the Smaug model from the Hobbit/LotR line. It's massive, a showpiece, and would challenge my painting skills. For practical purposes, I think I would get the new Alarielle model on the giant beetle. See above reasons with the added bonus of actually being able to field...

Re: My wife would have killed me...

I had to take a break from painting at the end of summer because the garage was too hot with no airflow (90-110F outside). Even at 10pm I was dripping sweat because the day's heat got trapped in there. Wifey suggested that I paint at the dining room table and I laughed. Told her that she wouldn't ap...

Re: New GW battle mat!

There's already a pretty big market for gaming mats. One of the websites offers a pretty decent selection of them, granted a lot of them are designed with RPGs in mind and come with grids. Point is, for GW to try and break into the market with overpriced and limited selections seems ... sad. However...
