Re: Bristol GT: my synopsis and take on HBE poor performance

I’m looking at it from a team perspective where HBE can take a couple of Dragons to act as hammers and enough shooting to create no-go areas. The board control can help manipulate the matchup process and from a psychological point of view dragons are much scarier than other fliers on the whole. With...

Re: Bristol GT: my synopsis and take on HBE poor performance

Top 1/3 dominated by regulars - we even had a Team England 1,2,3 for the second event running, and 5 of the top 7 were England I think HBE are decent, but seem to be lacking something. I can;t seem to write a list I'm happy with - but my gut feel is that it involves at least 1 Dragon and lots of sho...

Re: Dawn of a New Age, Colchester, 2nd/3rd April

Think you're being overly generous.

Only 6 of us had been to the masters before - no offence meant to any of the other players but I went in expecting at least 14 from every game I didn't play a team mate

Re: Milton Keynes Massacre

Aye - I had 3 Trees and a Dryad block.

HBE are very different now. CUrrently they work best as MSU:

The best builds I've seen are:
multi Phoneix Flying circus
MSU infantry shooting (Lots of Sisters, and WL skirmishers)
Lion Chariots everywhere

HBE are probably strongest army (with Lizards). Both Matt H and Jamie (both ETC players) played terribly. SE are good Phil - but the list I took as really exteme and I got lucky with matchups although did play 2 other ETC players England: Craig J Leggy Raf Marcus Mikey Newman Me Tanka (Adam Jones) S...

Re: Path To Glory - Sheffield Slaughter: All Games Up!

Dom Pemberton had Double Banishment and Searing Doom in his Empire list (plus 2 cannons and steam tank). He was on table 2 game 5 (vs Curry) and table 5 game 6 (vs me). With proper planning, it's not that hard to help mitigate Malekith's weaknesses - eg I only left Malekith out in the open within 24...

Re: Path To Glory - Sheffield Slaughter: All Games Up!

It was good to meet you at Sheffield - and I think my fave moments watching your games was Luke choosing the dice that resulted in Kairos getting FT'd. The crazy thing about Sheffield was the top few places. Down to me in 6th (with Eternity King), apart from Steve Follows at 5 (with Karl Franz) we a...

Re: Blackguard...

Think I played HE 15-20 times with my DE - worst result I ever had was a 10-10, and I noramlly ran double Blackguard. Blackguard with the Banner of Murder and Cauldron destroy WL, SM and DP. You need to shoot/magic or Phoenix Guard them. I've only fought them once with the new HE book, but my oppona...

Tbh, a small part of me is regretting not submitting the list with Life/Beasts instead of Heavens/High.

I've never, ever used Life and have been itching to Dwellers a Cauldron after having it donw to me multiple times

8th Ed - Jal's new High Elf Army

Long time all - after last Summer (and taking a break from my Dark Elves paying a Coven of Light) I had packed away my High Elves until a new book - low and behold, here we are! I'm completely done with the Dark Elves for now. After 120ish games in 14-15 months I can barely stomach playing them and ...

Re: Path To Glory - Second Game up - ETC comp vs WoC

Interesting Curu, after studying the new book, I'd come to almost the same list with a very few exceptions: Mage Lord has a steed and Crown of command instead of Tali/Ironcurse Archers down to 10 and 11 and another unit of Reavers in. No lions, but 10 DPs and an Eagle. Having the Crown in means I'm ...

Re: The Enlightened Path to Heaven

Yup Phil, I played Ian game 3 - my list was even harder than the one I pm'd you. Great game Ian - one of my fave games of Warhammer so far. We had a very bloody 10-10. At the end of the game I had left alive 30 Crossbows (a 20 and a 10), both Pegs and the Level 4, and Ian had 16 WLs, the BSB and the...

Re: A bulldoser of note. Any ideas on this?

The list has little to no redirectors, and the PG put down a huge footprint. Under that basis the likelyhood of you ever getting the Lion Chariot into a flank is negligable at best. The point of this argument is that Phalanx has no real bad-match ups. Without those, I see no need to redirect. It mi...

Demi-gryphs (50mmx75mm?), 2x4 one on flank; 3 wounds to front demi-gryph, 1 to Khoril, 3 to unit, 1 to BSB: 7 vs 7, Phoenix guard win with mus. Chariot to Flank of Flank (3 impact, 1 wound); make-way, 3 to front (Khoril), 4 to side, 1 to Khoril, 2 to unit, 1 to BSB; 9 vs 5, Demi-gryphs test on 4? B...

Not a big fan of BoH, but would be tempted by the following: AM, Annulian Shadow Prince, GW, DA, Nullstone (you'll see why shortly) Level 1, Ring of Corin, High (for Shield, and using Ring of Corin to break Puppet etc) BSB, GW, AoC, Dawnstone (or Guardian Phoenix) 30 Spears (for Marauders, or w/Mind...

Phil, you may be doing Steve a slight disservice - he's a very decent player, but rarely plays fantasy anymore, and tends to play with "fun" lists like the Ushabti bow-star.

Shame I had to miss this one, speaking to a few of the guys, seemed a fun one-dayer!

Re: Advice against DE Hydra and "Lawnmower" 1000-1500 game

Um I have fought DE fairly regularly, my solution is delete units one by one starting with the shooting units. For the hydra, try hit it in the flank with sword masters. For the bus, honestly just use eagles, if you are really worried just vauls it and remove the hydra banner, then remove the asf b...

Re: Advice against DE Hydra and "Lawnmower" 1000-1500 game

Beating Dark Elves is an uphill struggle - but if that's the list you're facing, you should be fine: Magic is your friend. With the right buffs/dd spells, you can wreck the Cold One Bus easily - (Searing Doom/Vauls on the BSB banner/Sniping the BSB etc). The Cold One Bus is not that good without the...

That's almost the Bobo list isn't it? Presumably you think the support mages bring more than extra spears Amit? More or less yeah, maybe swap out 1 Spear unit for PG plus Sorcery Banner. Re: Need help beating dark elves

If your opponant is using Dark, don't bother with too many archers - if one of WoP or Chillwind get through (which they will as you have to stop both Black Horror and Soul Stealer) then the Archers become useless. Isn't Dark magic very short ranged? Also if using no Archers then its you who has to ...

Wow! What do you think of the RBTs? I am thinking of making a shooting focused list, but with only 32 archers I will be giving the se aguard a shot! Level 4 metal level 4 beasts! Then with amber spear, curse, final transmutation, enchanted blades, shooting should be a fluke! But maybe high magic is...

Rando's keen but Ol's not set a date yet, it depends. Personally I think everyone should play High Elves! Edd Hamon might play and I'm sure we could drum up a few others! The Coven does sound like fun. "See your Bloodthirster? He's dead he is!" :) This'll be the first Pillage I've missed ...
