Re: 4k versus dorfs
True although Grudgethrowers and Flame Cannons are the only ones I'd be worried about. I'd deploy away from an Organ gun. Even then, he'd need really good dice to destroy the unit in one turn. I slightly changed the list to add a third Reaver unit and made the Eagles two units of two versus two sing...

Re: 4k versus dorfs
Funnily my opponent originally wanted to do 5k but I felt that'd start to change the game too much. 4k seemed a good compromise. I hear you on the war machines. I figure my shooting should be able to hit them from range as well as magic. However if the copters are pressuring, I'll be sure to shoot t...

4k versus dorfs
So I have a 4k game coming up against my buddy who's keen to use Thorgrim Grudgebearer. I imagine his list will be infantry heavy with copter and war machine support elements. His plan will be to weaken my blocks via that support, then grind me out once our lines hit. The dorms are sure to get army ...

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
Thanks - the pattern is actually sculpted on there using Sculpey and a filagree stamp. It's then base coated and washed using Secret Weapon Miniatures' Concrete.

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
So after some feedback via Twitter, etc., some felt the helmets more closely resembled cloth than metal. I did some experimenting and arrived at the photo on the right, which I think works better given my army background: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/prelude_to_war/HE_zps4e596a69.jpg I'm alm...

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
Finally put some paint on a model! After some good input from Twitter, here's the latest: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/prelude_to_war/20140712_171833_zps542c8484.jpg Gems, bowstring and snow/ice to come but it's progress. 20 archers and 2 or 3 units of Reavers will be the first to be done. Nice looking—albeit expensive—bolt thrower!
I love that kit, just picked one up myself.

Thanks!
The heads are from the new Shadow Warrior kit. They fit nicely with the DE Executioner models.

Thank you! And yes, the Dark Elf influence is meant to be strong. After the war with the Daemons, these Asur have embraced the ways of Khaine. They will eventually become the Dark Elves, they just don't know it

Progress is slow but steady. Made a slight detour and added some White Lions to my list - but not your garden variety White Lions: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/prelude_to_war/HE_zps0c7d1a0f.jpg Mixed reaction to these guys on Twitter since they don't have the famed fur cloaks and could be mi...

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
After a holiday break and time spent with my Greenskins, I've shifted focus back to my High Elves! It took forever and an age to decide on a color scheme. Here are some shots showing my progression over about a week: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/prelude_to_war/Warhammer/BfXkrg-CMAA-r3c_zps3f...

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
I think the helmet works particularly well on the mage...I'm less convinced on the DPs seeing them in the ranked up photos, but it still looks good and will be even better painted :D . Thanks! The SW helmets on the DPs has proven to be a controversial choice, but I'm looking forward to how they'll ...

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
Here are some WiP shots of my display board. It's my attempt at creating the Altar of Khaine where the Widowmaker sword resides. I'm still working on the fluff but the Sons of Aenarion could be awaiting Aenarion's arrival to take up the Widowmaker against the Daemons, or the guardians of the shrine ...

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
Some progress on the Dragon Princes. I opted to stay with the Shadow Warrior helmets (a somewhat controversial choice) and added some shields from Scibor Minis: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/prelude_to_war/Warhammer/20131112_111212_zps6aecdb42.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/prelude_...

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
Ha! Indeed Sons of Aenarion was already taken!! Maybe we can arrange a game for final rights to the name BTW your hobby thread looks great—nice conversions!
As for colors...not sure. Dark gray and red are in the lead right now. I'll have to test it and see.

Re: The Sons of Aenarion
Some more updates: First up is the mage. For me, the SW helmet gives this model some much needed 'attitude'. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/prelude_to_war/20131031_125336_zpsbb6f2621.jpg This is less obvious a conversion but it's the IoB Griffon rider placed onto the HE Hero kit horse. I think...

Re: The Defenders of Nagarythe
I ended up sticking with the SW helmets on the Dragon Princes. Pics of those shortly. In the meantime, I've made some progress on my Spear Elves. With longer and thinner spear shafts, I wanted to make them look more imposing than the stock plastic spears. LMK what you guys think. Standard bearer and...

Re: How competitive is that dragon prince deathstar?
You have to be careful about which infantry blocks you charge into. I consider anything S5 or better to be asking a lot of your DP Bus (Frostheart will help against S5, not so much against S6 or better). Executioners especially so (S6, KB). Black Orcs with their S7 is another bad one. I'd only charg...

Re: How competitive is that dragon prince deathstar?
Good point. It can be chaffed up but if your opponent gives you those points, that's what you have to take. Another bad matchup is O&G; Chukkas, Doom Divers, Manglers and Fanatics all present real dangers. The reason I like this build (I realize it's not for everyone) is because you have to depl...

Re: How competitive is that dragon prince deathstar?
I really like the DP+prince deathstar. My build has been something like this: 9 DP, full command, BotWD Prince; Barded Steed, shield, heavy armor, Giant Blade, Dragonhelm, Talisman of Endurance (1+/5++) BSB; Barded Steed, Dragon Armor, Sword of Might, Enchanted Shield, Dawnstone (1+ rerollable/6++) ...

Re: The Defenders of Nagarythe
to me it does not fit Dragon Princes. The design is simply too different. I go back and forth. While it is different than the rest of the DP model, it ties the unit in nicely with the rest of the army. I will have to ponder. If I were using SH, I'd probably do the same with that unit. Unfortunately...

Re: The Defenders of Nagarythe
So I'm steadily progressing on the army. I need to figure out if the Shadow Warrior helmet treatment will work on the Dragon Princes. Re: The Defenders of Nagarythe
Hm, no plans for chariots in my current army list but SW as riders could look very cool! Regarding musicians, I may have to use a helmet-less head for those. The drums are a possibility...and could fit with the warlike nature of the army. I will have to consider it although the mounted musicians may...

Re: The Defenders of Nagarythe
Thanks guys. I realized I uploaded the wrong photo of the spear elf (the very first photo). I've since replaced it with the shield I have in mind. With regards to DE parts, I want to minimize the use of them. Both versions of the army are pre-Sundering so technically DE wouldn't have existed yet. In...
