Re: An observation about our army
I've been thinkinng about this, and well here's an example yesterday my friend and I had a few games swapping armies. Well I utterly crushed the high elves (with woodies) but I did not get one spell off the entire game. My first attempt too cast was a 6 dice dwellers on a Phoenix guard horde, well S...

He's pretty good, just he often forgets angling for best effect. This leads to a way for me to foil his plan more often than not, or at least delay it.

Re: 2500 shooting army vs. woodies tree themed
I'm not sure, but I know he stayed with a unit of ten glade guard and had the stone of the crystal mere which is probably the sum of all his magic items. Well the reason I took life the second time instead of beasts was because he had had success with it, using a treemen ancient too hold up a horde ...

Re: 2500 shooting army vs. woodies tree themed
Well we played 3 games, one with Our usual lists- ( http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=40964 ) I don't have a copy of his but it was something this: Tree man ancient, tree man, level 4 life divination orb, noble bsb, level 1 scroll, 6 tree kin, then some dryads archers and 2 eagle...

Thanks for the feed back, for both lists I didn't really tailor since its not much fun for us in that event. Also he liked a horde of halberdiers when he played empire so I tailored too that a bit.

2500 shooting army vs. woodies tree themed
Hi guys I have my first game in months coming up tomorrow! So my friend and I were just going to have a few fun games, however we thought we would try some OP lists in one game... However that doesnt seem possible for woodies, so I dropped Teclis and came up with this. Zarkarian's host, the defender...

Re: Are our core troops that overpriced?
In regard to the core being 'traded' for the BoS and ASF great weapons, It a price that I'm happy to pay, but given the choice, I would keep it rather than lose the magic phase (maybe swap the banner for an arcane) but I think that if they remove ASF on troops like the sword masters they really aren...

Re: Are our core troops that overpriced?
I think that in the end what we need is a solution to the problem, rather than making our troops cheap, make them worth taking. (and elite at that) Just imagine a spear elf had heavy armour, +1 s first round, AP and an extra rank for the purpose of steadfast and rank bonus. Now we have a soldier tha...

Re: Best use of 20 Phoenix Guard.
So why I like metal: The alchemist on the battle magic cards Fullmetal alchemist Alchemy :P Essentially I was out to experiment, and since I don't like shadow that much and the concept of metal appeals too me, I decided to give it a shot, and what I found was that it essentially has one spell which ...

Re: Are our core troops that overpriced?
PS: What about simply letting us only need 15-10% of Core? Try making a couple of lists and see how you feel. Because i was surprised how much better i felt about my lists with that tax reduced. You the thing is that doesn't solve the issue, we are still handicapped by a portion of our army, and we...

Re: Best use of 20 Phoenix Guard.
Metal works rather well with my Phoenix guard, enchanted blades really helps them, generally hitting on 2's then -2 too armour making them pretty effective at clearing humanoid troops, then spells like final transmutation and searing doom help deal with their weaknesses, namely high armour and huge ...

Re: The sword masters
The other thing about ethereal and so on is it could be like the chosen of chaos, only one unit per lvl 2 or higher Mage. Then the parry could be innate, as well as the -1 to hit for shooting. MR could be a cheap upgrade, and would be rather effective since it cancels the issue of MM's to some exten...

Re: Are our core troops that overpriced?
+1 You know an interesting addition for the SoA, or just core troops would be re-roll all ones to wound (and 2s if you have harmonic convergence on them) and then add armour piercing to the spears. I think that although this may be too much/little it keeps the points cost fairly high which is import...

Re: Are our core troops that overpriced?
I think my issue with our core is that I don't want elves to be cheap for fluff and modelling reasons, and hence they cannot fulfil the 'bodies' role. Therefore the only roles that are really available are: Small archer units clearing chaff (but 10 just doesn't cut it :/) A spears block to augment c...

Re: 5000 army of caledor (4 dragons)
I think the key to this list is having a fun campaign with it. The key to winning is to avoid all cannons! Meaning that maybe the level 2 should be heavens for ice shard blizzard. But anyway, it is qs imply put only viable against armies not loaded with cannons since otherwise death will follow.

Re: Demons and elves. (play styles)
That is true, but I am able to have some games with skaven, so the mad scientist in me I sated :P Edit: all this aside I will probably just make a mental list of possible armies, and when someone is selling one and I like the look/theme of it, I will buy it. Re: 5000 army of caledor (4 dragons)
Sadly I don't have 4 dragons or enough core, but damn this would be awesome (against anyone except ogres, empire and dwarves)
Another cool thing would be lining up 4 dragons to charge a unit, then let him try and escape, then 4 dragons on one unit!!! (or even better 4 breath weapons on one unit!!)

Yep, the idea would be surrounding painting the wires and using resistors to reduce the amount of power going in so that it's a dimmer glowing, not brightly lit.Dartanelo wrote:It could be a really cool terrain piece but it might be hard to pull it off with out it looking like a chrismas tree

Re: vs. the new Stank
I have to say I would consider a metal list, it always has useful spells. Even against armour less troops, 3 spells have no reason not to take them, 2 have armour as a secondary effect, and 2 are straight anti armour.
That said with teclis, miasma then pit and if that fails pendulum is an option.

I have to say that although my favourite Lores are high magic then light, metal is amazing, especially with PG every spell in there synergies well with a PG horde style army.
