Re: Impetous-when can you declare a charge?
Well my old friend, with the new rules regarding a unit's maximum charge range (which strangely sometimes does not seem to be its maximum charge range, as I read the swiftstride rule, though the 3" addition to maximum possible charge range from a rule that can add 6" to a charge range may ...

Re: Beastmen Leaks
Have you tried Loremaster's Cloak on the DP's? Actually just played a game using the Loremaster cloak on my Drakemaster to protect the DP unit. I mean, it's better than having a 6+, but I still lost four dragon princes to a viletide and hagtree fetish combo. This was also a game where I failed an o...

Re: Beastmen Leaks
Also, at least it's not on a LD9 model, but more likely LD7 or 8 at most. Which, though it succeeds more than fails, can still go wrong. Do we know if that's the case? I saw the leak for the other banner said test on the model's own leadership, but warband means that a wargor could easily have lead...

Re: A few months in; what's working/not working?
After what, 15 years of not playing a game of Warhammer I've found myself swept up in TOW nostalgia. I've only played three games so far using Warhall, all against Beastmen, so it has been...rough. Star dragon and dragon princes are definitely my standouts. Still getting using to combat resolution n...

Good god. Has it really be ten years? Ugh. Old.
Should be fun.

Three Short Empire Stories
I think it's been what, almost two years since I put any fiction up on Ulthuan? Well, why the hell not. I'm kind of in the groove again. Presented in chronological order, all from the same continuity. My kind of sort of Warhammer-verse. If anyone remembers any of my old work at all there are some fa...

Re: Greek Warfare Books
I will second the recommendation for Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War. It's free! Sure, tactics and strategy and such are fun...but if you really want to build a believable world for your army, and flesh it out, you have to understand why battles are fought. It's always worth keeping Cla...

I'm not going to lie, and I'm not ashamed to say, that his rendition of the MLP theme is amazing.

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
But again it is unfair to color a position that states that writing the ending requires a deft hand to put together the prior strengths, with making it 'easy', or worse, something that a chimp banging on his keyboard could slap together. It is a practice of cultivating towards a culmination; again ...

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
It's precisely that ME3 is a game, telling a story arc, in multiple segments, why I started this thread! And I mean that charitably. I find it a fascinating experiment, and I'd like to consider on its own strength and merits within the medium. I find that problem of medium, interactivity (in the au...

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
I'm sorry, I couldn't finish that review. The person writing it either didn't play the game, or made no effort to listen to what it had to say. I'll provide one example: or why the Quarians picked the onset of the Reaper invasion to start a galactic war with the Geth (or why the Reaper controlled Ge...

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
Most of your complaints seem to be about the last five minutes of the game. I agree that the ending was bad. All I'm trying to say is that a bad ending doesn't invalidate the rest of the game, which is of extremely high quality.

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
'Artistic vision' may be bogus, but I wouldn't be too quick to toss 'narrative structure' onto that pyre. That's what I am wondering about is how the narrative structure put in place throughout the ME installments - which constitute the 'thing ME' that you refer to, a fictio, but not any the less '...

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
I think that most of the artistic vision stuff is bogus. We might like to pretend that there is this thing called 'Mass Effect' that we want BioWare to be faithful to. We might even say that there is some sort of determinism at work, that if they're faithful, then they will be guided to the correct ...

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
I don't necessarily disagree. I don't think that the ending is good, as I said above it doesn't fit the story, but I would consider it a permissible and plausible option. And it can only retroactively devalue your experience if you let it. There's nothing in that ending the detracts from the experie...

Re: Mass Effect 3's ending....
For example, the most glaring case for me was how certain subplots established in ME2 (dark energy) were just abandoned in ME3. Foreshadowed. Set up. Marked and engaged. And then, nada. Wow. What an epic disappointment in story. But it makes sense if there is no 'artist's vision': that new blood ca...

I was going to buy the new AB but then I checked the price (I've been out of the game for a while).

Re: New Empire miniatures pics and book cover!
So. My account gets deleted and now this. If I wanted chocobo knights I'd play final goddamn fantasy. Except I wouldn't, because those games are terrible and no one should play them. I don't recognize a lot of you. Some of you might not recognize me. I'm the Empire guy. The avatar there is Mr. Grump...
