Re: Looking for KoW opponents on Ubattle

I've been stalking that thread a bit. Honestly, though, I find that if I just pop in and either chat up the lobby or start an open room, I can get a game pretty easily.

Re: 2nd Edition Kings of War release

As I've been learning, yes I've mainly just been playing line up and fight. I really want to start doing scenarios though.

Re: 2nd Edition Kings of War release

I've had a few of those games. The game is heavily dependent on deployment and the initial charges. Jockeying for position is critical and the gameplay you're seeing reflects that. Screening your units and staggering reserves are also legitimate and effective strategies. That might sound boring, but...

Re: 2nd Edition Kings of War release

I've gotten a few games on UB thus far as well. I'm completely hooked on the system. It plays so fast and smooth. Their undead are just fantastic.

Re: Looking for KoW opponents on Ubattle

I'll try to make it next Wednesday (5 Aug). I've been dying for a game so I can get better acquainted with the system, but I don't have many opponents in the area. I would probably around after 6pm your time.

Re: Kings of War - resources

The base Elf list can make damned near anything from the High Elf and Wood Elf ranges. Heck, KoW does a better job with half the units. Seaguard and Spears are two perfect examples of units that are bleh in Warhammer, but have a well defined place in KoW. I'm loving it!

Re: What does AoS mean for WHFB?

Excellent point, but it really is the exception rather than the rule. BFG, Mordheim, Epic, Warmaster, and Necromuna have not been so lucky. It probably has a lot to do with blood bowl just being so awesome. That said, Warhammer has a larger dedicated following than any of those other games, so if th...

Re: What does AoS mean for WHFB?

No official support means a slowly dwindling community with no growth. I believe a lot of players want and will want to play a massed battle game. At the moment there is a lot of backing, at least on the UK scene, for continuing 8th edition tournaments. Whether players and events slowly migrate to ...

Re: Did tournament players kill Warhammer?

Screw you Jervis. I'd be tempted to mod this but Mr J is widely known as a great guy and I respect the sentiment. It's funny though, I doubt those words have been seen very often! :) I actually almost edited it out myself. He is indeed a nice guy, but I feel quite insulted by that column, especiall...

Re: Did tournament players kill Warhammer?

Wow, what an insulting column. I haven't played in a tournament in about a decade. I have routinely trumpeted a casual approach to Warhammer. Yet one of my parts of enjoyment is having relatively even games. My friends and I are all parents at this point, so sorry that we don't have time for his pre...

Re: What does AoS mean for WHFB?

Are you salty? Yes Will you keep playing? Yes, but not a GW system The old game, the new game, or both? Kings of War, here I come! Will you sell your models? Nope. They're getting new KoW multi-bases though! Does GW hate their fans, or is this a good decision? Hate is a strong word. Casual indiffer...

Re: 2nd Edition Kings of War release

I don't see High Elves getting their own list since the current base Elf list pretty well reflects us. The only thing lacking is a Phoenix, but you can ally with Baselia for that. Wood Elves might have a better shot, but I can make a good Wood Elf list with KoW Elf list as well. Dark Elves are defin...

Re: Initial AoS Game Results, Thoughts, and Suggestions

That's just too much work for a game I don't like anyway. Had GW given time to balancing, I might be more inclined to try this skirmish system. However, GW didn't make the effort. This game plays far closer to 40k than WFB, and I already play 40k. I don't feel the need to double tap. I'm all aboard ...

Re: 9th Edition rumours

GW still have an ace in the hole in the UK, which is their physical presence. It's actually much easier to get into GW games here, because there are shops where you can regularly play. When I lived in the US, the independent shops had much more presence, and GW may find they lose greater market sha...

Re: The models

I'm actually on the opposite end of most of you. I'm digging the Sigmarines and not the chaos stuff, but part of that is a general dislike of all things chaos. This Age of Sigmar release is killing me. I like the models, I rather like the advancement of the story, but the game itself is an abominati...

Re: Initial AoS Game Results, Thoughts, and Suggestions

Here's the thing. You don't just need balancing mechanisms for a competitive environment. You need them to have fun too. Just putting crap down on a table without any regard to the relative strength of those units creates one sided games that kills fun. The poor smuck that brings the inferior army w...

Re: 9th Edition rumours

@Swordmaster I just got back from deployment and jumped right into Armada. I absolutely love it. As you say, it is completely different, but well worth the investment. As for Warhammer, I see Kings of War as the natural successor. Alessio is the main rules writer and Rick Preistly is writing an intr...

Re: 9th Edition "Rumours" (and reactions to them)

I'm still holding out hope that these round bases are either a) inaccurate rumors or b) not mandatory. Rebasing is a non-starter for me, just as it is for many of you. I'm going to continue to hope for an 8th edition 2.0 for the rules. That said, I'm looking at the beta versions of Kings of War seco...

Re: ET Archaon [SPOILERS!!!]

Tyrion is quite disappointing. I prefer his pre-ET profile to this. It might be nasty against Undead and Daemons, but I've always hated items and characters that target specific races. Caradryan, however, is a pleasant surprise. I'll hold out outside hope that his flaming attack rule is not an overs...

There's a link to photos with the Army of the Light a few pages back in this very thread. As for Caradryan rules, you might want to re-read the product description: "It also includes rules for the following new Incarnates: Balthasar Gelt, Incarnate of Metal, Tyrion, Incarnate of Light, Grimgor,...

Actually, we don't have the rules for the last two incarnates. I'm itching to see what Tyrion looks like. I'm having flashes of Obi-Wan's famous quote now that we're getting close. He was struck down. Now is he more powerful that we possibly imagined?

Re: Reworking Elves ASF

On another note, you guys should look at the warseer thread that Shadeseraph made about this topic, there is a lot of people who wants ASF to just go, without any points reduction or new rule to replace it. As I never feel particularly overpowered when I play with my High Elves this made me wonder....

Re: Reworking Elves ASF

Guys, I'm not saying that ASF vs. ASL already doesn't exist. I'm saying that's what I want from the rules. ASF is already a privilege, I don't personally see a need for re-rolls as well. The thing is it's a privilege Elves usually get via initiative regardless of ASF itself. Without some benefit fo...

Re: US Masters 2015

Why would I take it seriously when the inherent problem makes it unbalanced? Waste of time IMO. This pretty well sums up my feelings on ETC. I prefer Swedish by a slight amount because they reward you for taking sub-optimal choices and allow for better diversity. They also get some things right. Fo...

Re: US Masters 2015

I frankly see the same problems with ETC. I can't build a wood elf list or high elf list that I like under ETC. I haven't checked out the High Elf comp under Swedish for a while (I do remember it being just as harsh as ETC), but the Wood Elf comp for Swedish is far better. In the end, both systems a...
