Re: 2nd Revised List 2500

That's almost the exact same list I have ended up running after a lot of debate/thought (I think Tethlis also runs a similar list). The mage-knight isn't bad at all. He's a good 2nd caster with the ability to act as a form of 'BSB' for a unit. However, he isn't the best damage dealer, so he really n...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

I played a rather fun (and bear-laden) game against a friends Dark Elves last night, in celebration of finding out he’s having twin boys! Well, technically his wife is having them, he’ll probably just watch… Anyway, I tried out the eagle prince list with (2) 5-man Dragon Prince units, and then talke...

Re: Tethlis' Army Blog: Updated 11/28 vs TK

Great game! I'm curious about the DPs role in this battle. They flee in the TK turn 1, and after that they just seem to hang out and not really do a whole lot, staying out of effective/reliable charge range (well, at least on the diagrams anyway - by that I mean over about 16" away). In other b...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

I found a list by Ptolemy (spelling?) that seemed similar (RGoH High Prince on foot, Shadow AM, Lvl 2 with Light), with a unit of PG and WL, but I couldn't find one from Tethlis. In his list, he seemed to use the Prince and Lvl 2 for defensive buffs (ward saves & such) towards the beginning of t...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

OK then! I got in two games against a Orc & Goblin player, and a lizardman player, both about equal in skill to me (we've played many times before). I won the O&G game, lost the Lizzie game (well, magic kind of killed me in that one). General run-down of the units in the game, with grades an...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

I'll give the list a go with a few changes from you: Archmage (with your load-out) and shadow running with a large unit of archers, Lvl 1 Mage with Metal in a smaller unit of archers, and the Noble with Death in the unit of WLs. I'm currently 3 points over, but I think I can trim a few things to mak...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

I played yet another couple of games this weekend, and I found that I’m not a very large fan of the Death-Knight prince on a horse. The roles of the cavalry prince with his DP bus was really one of getting into CC as quickly as possible at the right time and location, necessitating tactical movement...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

So, after another couple of games today, I decided to add a level of offense that I didn't previously have in the list in the form of a Knight-Mage with death magic. It's a rather small step, but I think it is something that could potentially help me target champions/BSBs/leaders/hard targets, while...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

Your responses make a lot of sense. I guess I was wondering if the eagles were necessary, or could a cheaper unit of DPs do a similar job (see your answers above) and save a few points. How would I run this list differently? To be honest, I have no idea. There seems to be something bouncing around i...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

A few questions to ask if you don't mind: 1. How important do you feel the 2 supporting noble-eagles are to the dragon performing his role? 2. Do you think units of cavalry (either SHs or DPs) could perform a similar role to the noble-eagles, or do you feel it necessary to 'target saturate', and hav...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

Actually, I agree with your 'needs-offensive-elements' take on the list, which I take to mean 'needs more mobility' at this point, based upon my experience with DE & now HE. So far I am very impressed with the heavy infantry's ability to kill stuff without being buffed, but not their toughness o...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

I'll post my observation from a couple of games I've played (one against myself, and 3 yesterday against a range of armies), just for fun: I think a lot of it might have to do with the role any back-up mage might take in your army. If it's just defensive/dispell back-up, and the AM is doing the mass...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

I actually played a 'game' against myself (Dark Elves) last night, going with a slightly modified list (I used 24 LSG instead of the 30-man unit of archers), to get a general feeling of how the army plays, and what weaknesses I could find. To summarize at the beginning of the game: I felt that I did...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

OK, with these comments taken into account, how’s this for a list: LORD: Archmage – 335 Level 4 with Life, Folariath’s Robe, Seerstaff of Saphery (Throne, Flesh, Regrowth, Dwellers) HEROES: Noble – 168 BSB, Great Weapon, Armor of Caeldor, Dawnstone Mage – 175 Level 2, Annulian Crystal CORE: (30) Arc...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

OK, so after a relatively sleepless night I'm come up with the first outline of a list based on Avelorn. A few reasons being there is a decent ability for a few conversions (with the help of WD models), and the list could potentially have anything I really felt like putting in it in the future as th...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

Hmm... now that you talk about Avelorn, I want to do a bit of research. That's kind of an interesting area...I like the idea of Saphery, The Isles, and Averlorn the best. For Averlorn : Something like a lvl 4 mage, with her maiden guard (i.e. PG?) bodyguard, along with a Phoenix king representative ...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

So, to help decide which way I want to take my list, I've broken out the HE dex and gone through each individual kingdom so I can talk my way through the ideas of them, and maybe give a brief outline of what I think would be in each list. Feel free to correct me if I'm a bit off, as the HE fluff is ...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

OK, the advice is just spectacular! I have some thinking and planning to do tonight, so see which direction I'm going to be taking this list. It seems like there are quite a few 'lion' based armies out there, which kind of annoys me a bit to be honest (I like to be original), and sets me off from th...

Re: First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

I like the ideas! And your blog seems to cover a few of the items that I was concerned with. The prince build you describe (S7 with 4 attacks) is probably how I'll run the guy when I have life magic present. If I were to switch over to shadow, I think I would rather run the more protected prince. Ho...

First 2500 HE List - any advise is welcomed!

Hi everyone! I just joined the forum after a suggestion from Warseer that this is the place to go if you are interested in HE. It was also suggested that there is a good link to a cavalry-prince army list/outline that I should look at (I'll find it after this post). But taking a quick look around it...
