Re: Detachment Talk: Spears + Archers

While I find the whole regiment/detachment relationship narratively and thematically fascinating, I can't see why you'd go with Spears & Archers rather than Sea Guard in practical gameplay. If you're not limited by what models you have/preference, and if you're okay with warbows instead of longb...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World

Man, I love coming back to this community after a long time off and seeing others do the same, and seeing others who have kept it going this entire time. Lots of familiar faces. So happy to see it thrive! Y'all are awesome! I'm really digging these themed list ideas. The Elven Honors really allow us...

Re: Warhammer ToW

I'll be jumping in as well. With the changes to base sizes, rather than rebase everything, I think I might try 3D printing an entire army. I read about the infantry bases being consolidated into 25 x 25 mm, but I just noticed that cavalry are 30 x 60 mm. It makes sense from the hobby perspective, I ...

The Old World High Elves

I saw on the map of The Old World that High Elves will be represented by their colonies and that the colonies on the map include Tor Martel, Tor Bildouze (or the Silent Isle?), Tor Anrok, and The Dragon's Maw. There's a chance that the last one might be Tor Soleil, but the shield heraldry is slightl...

Re: List for an upcoming ETC tournament

Things I really liked: Lvl. 4 death with Asfad honour: Oh he was good. He just murders monsters, which are out of the ld range from the general. Further, he is a constant threat for opponents generals with his soul leach LD10. The path has relatively low casting values and works great with shooting...

Re: 2500 pts army list - Prince of Ryma

It's definitly a solid core option, and 30 extra bow shots are of course not a bad "extra" thing to have. But at the same time, I think it limits you in some ways. First, you only have M5 each round if you are two use the bow. Second, 4+ AS on spears means that they will suffer less again...

Re: 2500 pts army list - Prince of Ryma

I've always felt that spears were outperformed by Sea Guard, especially as a magebunker. Normally, you don't want your bunker in combat, especially with a L4 with no ward save. Bunkering in a close combat unit feels like a bit of a waste. Archers would be better, but Sea Guard are the best, especial...

Re: The Return

Thanks for your thoughts Ferny. Though the explanations of why they were built that way are correct, and enlightening in itself, I think that the potential for synergy falls short. Also, to clarify, a character with Stubborn (vs Fear) does, in a sense give the benefits of Stubborn to the unit it is ...

Re: The Return

Okay, I have to admit, after reading through the book, I can see few synergies, if any. And by synergies, I mean special rules or magic items, some ability that allows 2 or more units to work together efficiently. I'm not talking about how well frost chickens reduce strength, making other units in t...

Re: griffon prince

Agree with SpellArcher, mostly. Not quite sure about the core setup because you only have two infantry units to hide the mage in and both are combat-oriented. If you're not putting the Sea Guard into combat, Archers would probably be a better bunker. I'd be tempted to swap them for a unit of archer...

-Again on the charm of cursed iron. The more I think of it, the more I am sure that this will not work on ridden monsters. The rules are quite clear on the difference between "the bearer" and "the bearer's model". So if you use this list in a tournament, it will be points out of...

Re: Shield of the Wyrm

When people post 4+/4++, this means 4+ armor save and then a 4+ ward save. So if you saw 3+/5++, it would be a 3+ armor save and a 5+ ward save. The "++" means ward save, usually. As Parry is a ward save, it can be reflected in this way.

Just to point out an error of fluff; Jimmy is a proud Chracian, he even named his heir after the Kindgom, he is not a lord of the Yvressii. @Asurion Whitestar: I'll try to clear things up as much as possible for you. Re: Understanding Cover from an intervening unit

I would like to think, at least for us non-douchey players, the "Don't be a d*ck rule" is a given. And all the times I've played Rivvin, we've never had an issue that we got hung up on. I don't think either of us care that much about winning to argue about something like this in a game. We...

Okay, a friend and I are arguing to the point of exhaustion. I wholly believe I am right, but obviously he has his own opinion about this, so I'm leaving this to you, the community. First the rules (all on page 41 of the BRB): 1. COVER : If the majority of the models in the target unit (or, when fir...

Re: Questions so I can update myself to newer rules

3. I do often use 3 ranks of shooting. In my wood elf army (that basically has martial prowess when in a forest) had three units of 14-15 glade guard, so it is easier to maneuver an archer group if it is only 5 wide. I used to run archer groups in minimum units of 10, but found that they were just a...

1. Yes 2. Most people (generalization) allow for proxies. Check with your TO if you want to take it to a tournament. 3. "In addition, when shooting, all High Elf models with this special rule fire in one more rank than normal..." BRB states that normally a shooting unit can shoot with the ...

I'll have to "partly" disagree with pk-ng here. "At the start of the combat... if a character's unit is in combat, but the character is not in base contact with the enemy, the controlling player can swap his position with another model that is in base contact. You can exchange him wit...
