Re: Warmachine by Privateer Press
I haven't posted to Ulthuan for months now, because I found the joy of warmachine. I really enjoy the smooth rule mechanics and the dedicated privateer employs who answer rules questions in real time on the forums. It's refreshing not to see endless posts of rules lawyering! It's also a much more ce...

Re: Shooting Phase Warmachines vs Archers
Given that warhammer cannons are definitely not 18th and 19th century weapon systems, we can not use those professional artillery crews as an example. I think the OP has a good point. I would note that adding engineers for the empire or a specific rune of smokeless powder for dwarves in order to fir...

Re: How do you invade Ulthuan?
I didn't read defenders of Ulthuan. Is what I described what happens in the book? It seems like the best option to me. The composite risk of the operation is certainly acceptable when you consider the objective. I apologize for my terrible sentence structure of my previous post. It was a stream of c...

Re: How do you invade Ulthuan?
I'm going to have to weigh in here. I think we're all thinking too small here. Given that each invasion of Malekith has failed for thousands of years, this kind of undertaking is bigger than he's ever dreamed. It may be his hubris that simply blinds him from the immensity of what he is trying to ach...

Re: Have you guys heard of death before?
@arratak It would have to be a necromancer, but they don't have all that great leadership either. I have to agree with the main sentiment here: that death isn't really a rule to be worried about, but rather an exception that could happen. We all want our characters to survive to the end, but our str...

Re: Bolt Thrower's Battle Log - Updated 2/5 HE vs. LM 2500
I feel your pain against lizardmen. They can be very tricky with the variety of skirmishing troops and the salamanders devour t3 troops. Cold blooded often makes steadfast units immovable. A couple of things: I know you are used to rolling with life (I used it all the time before switching to shadow...

I wouldn't call it dodgy. With the storm banner and skaven shooting an eagle may not be able to pull that longer than a turn. Against a doom wheel it will definitely be one turn.

Re: Bolt Thrower's Battle Log - Updated Battle Prep vs. LM 2500
Salamanders and the stegadon should be the first priority. I would move your Mage out of your blocks once the skinks are toast; this would mitigate the dwellers risk. I would also much rather face a lizardmen army using life instead of light; count your blessings! He's in a much riskier position wit...

Re: New Spells for the High elves
@Azazel I can appreciate trying to really capture the centuries of magical mastery in the Elf race with High Magic. High Magic I think is supposed to encompass all the lores through representing their attributes into one. This is probably what causes the current lore to seem like that eclectic 'bag ...

Champs add an extra attack, sometimes other stat additions, a possible magic item and eliminates him from a future challenge. Its worth allocating, since our HE will likely kill him outright 8 out of 10 times.

Re: Rally the banners! Yvresse stands resolute!
Hmmm, I could see the shrine situated exactly where it is. House Meliane seems to be one of the most ancient houses in Yvresse, stands to reason they would also have been leaders religiously as well. I appreciate both maps. A little inconsistency is fine. Magic isn't necessarily as accurate as surve...

Re: Edrain's Avengers of Yvresse, 2400 pts. Painted Archer :D
@Edrain A solid start. As you work through the painting, practice watering down your layers, it will help give you a smooth finish. I know you are looking at time versus quality, but it pays dividends later. This is especially true when using metallics and developing a mirror sheen. On your list, th...

Re: High Elven Princess daughter of Finubar. In VC book!
+1 Lordcal If anyone has read the Von Carstein trilogy it only takes one Archmage to appear with four Swordmasters to ruin the day of Necromantic magic mongers. I can't remember if it was Vlad or Konrad's minions when they appear, but the power differential is night and day. And that is just a red-s...

Re: The Muster Marches to War! (1st Batrep of our winter league)
As I think more about the game I just played, I had several more thoughts in the aftermath of the triumph over Chaos: 1.) The Talisman of Loec. I know its popular and I can see why. I'm starting to think about grabbing it, just to force my way through on those really important combats. During the ba...

Re: The Muster Marches to War! (1st Batrep of our winter league)
Just won the match against the WoC player. He's relatively new to the game and his army. His list wasn't especially hard and the game was fairly won from turn 2 on. I'm not sure if I'll put together a full on report, but maybe if I get bored... Some take aways from the game: Shadow performed very we...

Re: The Muster Marches to War! (1st Batrep of our winter league)
@Andrew I would have loved to use my eagles like that, unfortunately the Storm Banner was active. I dislike turning units around, but the depleted unit was in no danger from charges and would have had plenty of time to reform and rejoin the battle. Of course, they were on the receiving end of 2 plag...

Re: Chariots: Yay or Nay?
Ive found the tiranoc chariot to be a good investment into a support unit. It's one of the few items in our list with 4 Wounds, t4 and a save, so I think this sets it apart. Yes, it can be destroyed by any number of high strength attacks, but what can't? Even the equal expenditure of points into a s...

My opponent opted for the forfeit anyway. He felt like it was deserved for the time we invested in that game. We will meet again soon. Re: The Muster Marches to War! (1st Batrep of our winter league)
My opponent and I just hashed it out and agreed the list was illegal. Our league rules state that a forfeit occurs, but I left it up to him if he wants to rematch instead. He's a good guy. There may be a chance to redeem Oberon against that wily grey seer!

@dabber Yeah, the diagram is a bit skewed; the Jezzails were just within 6 inches. I realized my dispel mistake the moment after I tried. And I just looked up Death again. Right on about the MR and Ward. The list I was using is not really the 'normal' list. I was very intrigued by certain tactical p...

Re: The Muster Marches to War! Battle Report 2 (6th Game)
Battle Report 2 (6th Winter League Game) This battle was anxiously awaited by the forces of Ulthuan. For some history: I had played this Skaven in our last league and we fought to a brutal draw. I was happy with that result, but I knew that I could win a game against the least of all races. However,...

Re: The Muster Marches to War! (1st Batrep of our winter league)
@Curu Thanks, I was very worried when the dice utterly failed me. I had made that overrun expecting a high a probability of making the following charges. Unfortunately those low percentage chances always seem to haunt me. Fortunately Oberon and his brother were in a position to race forward. As far ...
