Is that envy I hear?

No, just commenting on that things usually balance out.

Yes, there are places where it definitely doesn't work that way. But in other ways it does. I like the freedoms I have that other countries don't and am ok with the amount of programs my government has.

If you are refering to 3rd world countries, i hardly think a union would protect the workers from being beaten and treated like shit for working too slow or not doing a good job as those problems are far beyond a simple union formation to be fixed.
And why are those laws there? Because politicians give two shits about the average worker compared to companies? you cant be serious...

Maybe you should look up a slight bit of history before you make idiotic comments. I mean, the shortest of glances at the Guilded age into the progressive era in US history kinda... makes you look stupid, frankly.

And how are those related to worker protections? kinda silly to say that youre ok with getting screwed on one area as long as another area is ok, when theyre both equally important.

I work in a grocery store, without a union, and I have better medical benefits than almost everyone I know. And I pay less than $10 a week.
So you leech off the work of unions. Congrats? If you honestly think that unions never existed, you would have the pay or benefits you have today, youre dilusional.

Allerion: Try reading posts the whole way through. You might have noticed that I was commenting on the 'free medical care' and 'free universities' parts of Meif's post if you bothered to spend half a second comprehending what I wrote. Also, show me where I said that I "honestly think that unions never existed, you would have the pay or benefits you have today", because I don't remember saying that. I think I mentioned before that not every job that has a union is in need of one in today's world where the government takes care of all a lot of things that unions were formed to do.

translation: "well, I can do better than union workers, and Im not in a union, so why should anybody want to unionize"

youve been very vocal in your opposition to unions, and the negative impact you perceive that they have. Youve implied several times that you think unions are completely unnecessarily, and if you actually look at why union started, you should realize that that is simply untrue. Its this complete lack of knowledge of history that grinds my gears.

Literal Translation: "If things are like this, why should I bother unionizing at all? And if things are going really well, why are unions trying to push their way into my workplace?"

Don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say. I've never said Unions were useless, I simply believe that in this country at this time, they have begun to outlive their usefulness. There is a big difference.

Thats definitely true! In the end it won't be that much money, because I'll pay off the loan early and not have to deal with 100% of the interest.

So in recent news, I've moved to Norway. I'm now living in an absolutely monstrously huge flat (about twice as large as my previous one) surrounded by cardboard boxes.

The language will take some time to acquire, but at least I understand some (if not most) of it, and most Norwegians seems to understand my Swedish fairly good as well.

Also, I've decided that everything's not horribly expensive here, it's just that the rest of world is really cheap. >_>

A shadowy figure walks past EricJ, taking his hand and putting a piece of paper in it. "From a mutual friend," he whispers, before moving on. EricJ is confused, but unwraps the paper nonetheless to read its message:

"Welcome to my Kingdom, Swede number 145.641. Please make yourself comfortable."

Hey guys! It's beem awhile since I posted last, though I've been checking in at least once a week.

Aryel, everything about that looks amazing save for the dangling appendage coming out of the crotch area  .

Loki, congrats on your home ownership! Must be pretty awesome. Also, I totally have your back on the union thing. In spirit, anyway. I haven't had time to actually post anything, obviously. So....take that, Allerion :P .

I've been putting in crazy hours at work, but it's all paying off! Two weeks ago I got reviewed by the brewery owner, the CFO, and the Head Brewer, and I couldn't believe how positive it was. They're apparently thrilled beyond their wildest expectations with my performance, intelligence, and work ethic. They gave me an early promotion to full brewer, made me salaried, gave me a 50% raise, and said that they're determined to keep me around for a long time and promote me to higher positions as the company grows! And, barring unreasonable costs, they want to pay for me to go back to school to finish my degree! I have a meeting with a Penn State advisor in two weeks :D .

I'm pretty psyched 8) .

Nothing wrong with the tail. Although we didn't eat it, here we eat pretty much everything, from the intestines and kidneys, to the head and even eyes.

Oh, and congrats on the promotion. Right now I'm doing some research to sell beer at my winestore, and who knows, maybe in the future I may import some of yours!
