Share Your Snow Sculptures Here!

#1 Post by Karak Norn Clansman »

It's that time of the year again, when shovelling snow becomes a good excuse to do some quick sculptures. Anyone up for a snow sculpture challenge this happy season?

First out, a couple of quick Dwarf heads:

And some old ones from previous years:

Splendid!

As usual, the snow outlook for the south of England is pretty scanty.

They are great. I really like them.

Unfortunately, as with SA, here in the Netherlands winter simply means the rain is colder. And any snow deeper then 2cm that falls (one or two days a winter on average maybe) grinds all public life to a halt. So snow sculpting is out of the question here. We're glad if we have a winter where we can make a simple snowman.

The upside is of course that there is very little snow shovelling to be done ;)

Hehe, there ought to be half a meter of snow every winter. ;)

Can you trust an elf?

The icy and lumpy snow made this one tricky, and pulled down the quality drastically, as well as having it end up way too thin. Still, it's a face.

The snow is currently too frosty and lumpy to be much good for detailwork. It would not have been advisable to attempt teeth with such material:

I like them. They're maybe not the best, but they're fun. :) Though if you claim the face is the face of an elf then you can get away with it being so thin. It resembles en Elder scrolls elf quite nicely I think.

In general I think you can trust an elf about as far as you can throw him ;)

Which does mean that the stronger you are the more trusting you can be...

You're improving I think. :)

What's the process of making one? start shoveling snow manually into a heap and move on from there?

Thanks! I'm not sure about improving; it's possible, but I had almost ideal snow to work with, unlike gravelly and lumpy frosty snow. Material decides a lot, and I don't put much into the sculpting since it'll all melt anyway.

Yep! First build up a snow heap by hand, then make a ramp to build it higher after a certain point (it automatically gets packed through this process), then move on from there: Remove the ramp and carve away excess snow to get at the desired shape, then brush it up.

Fimir and Orc:

Nice. I like the Orc head best in that batch I think.

How tall do these become? If I had to guess I would go for something like 1.5m

We have finally had a large amount of snow (as in maybe 4 whole cm...) here in the Netherlands. So I now have a snow sculpture to share as well. Made by my two lovely little girls (3 and 1 years old)

I've been told they had a lot of fun making him.

Nice snowman! I like the attention to details your daughters put into it with the extra equipment, Prince of Spires. A good sense of aesthetics that may bloom in years to come, mayhap? :)

So am I. They're great fun!

Lauren, the oldest one, decided that the snowman was cold (it was snowing after all...). So he needed a scarf and hat. And you just must have something for arms. They were quite proud of their work.

All I can do is support the sense of aesthetics and see what happens ;)

I particularly like the fact that there are three plastic tools for arms. Clan Moulder incoming?

If I look at how the living room looks after they've spend an hour playing there then I would have to go with Chaos Deamons instead of Skaven ;)

Thanks!

It is that time of the year! Snow has finally come in droves. Days and days of shovelling and skiing has ensued. Blissful.

Living in the middle of a Southern France city I don't see a lot of snow, or not enough to build anything anyway. So please keep up your amazing work and make me dream !

Same here. Sculpting rain is pretty hard.

We have had one day of snow so far this year. A whole 2 or 3 cm fell. And melted away again overnight.

Then again, this year I don't mind all that much. I managed to rupture my achillis tendon, so I can't enjoy snow all that much at the moment anyway...

That's one massive dinosaur. Though the lamppost is a bit in the way. Can you move it aside for a bit?

Thanks. It's stuck back together, which is step one. I've got a cast around my leg which will be there for another couple of weeks. And after that, it will be therapy and seeing how it goes. I'm cautiously optimistic though. It should heal almost completely, as long as I behave a bit the first half a year or so. We'll see. Though I must say at the moment I will already be happy if I can simply beat my kids in a running contest again (they're 3 and 5, I should still be able to win for a few more years...) ;)
