Loriel's Terrain / Model Blog.

#1 Post by Loriel »

I decided to return to play with High Elves and perhaps I should try to get some models finished. I am regular user of Yaktribe forum for Necromunda projects and realized that one of the main motivation to do the stuff was to share it with lot of people and receive positive (and negative) feedback. I also loved the comic style I started to use recently so I will use it here also.

Without further ado here is my work from the last couple hours

Your models are starting to come along nicely :)

However, do you really have to use such big images with titles/captions etc?

Check out my High Elves R3K Plog! It's super picture heavy though... You've been warned..

@NexS Thanks for the comment. well i don't have to use so big, too bad image size doesn't work in this site too well or I have wrong syntax ]img=size= 1 x 1]url[/img]. They look better in the imgur album http://imgur.com/a/15KGK , but perhaps I could tone the font size little smaller ;)

@ArcaneSnow I actually use program called comic life to do them (and gimp for my usual comic style necromunda reports) Incase you want to see more of them check my blog http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=67296

I usually just post the individual images and put comments above or below, that way it conforms to the vertical design of the forum.
That's just me though, it's just difficult to take in the images if they're bigger than the browser window.

@NexS yep, I have done that (not in this forum though) but I wanted to add something different to the mixture.

Now couple more pictures this time little smaller.

Little update on my slow progress.

I am very proud of my personal accomplisment with the white lions. eventhough they are so subpar compared to many other ulthuan member, but for me that is like... lot better that I though I could do!

Small update from my couple days work. I am very pleased that in these particular models I made the best white I have done so far. Still lot to learn, but it is nice to see some progress on own skills. It doesn't show much in these pictures but I added some green moss on the bases and it makes them little more colorfull. But I think the moss is little bit too thick to be used so little quantities as I have.

I was inspired after watching @snoeaengel thread http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=68696t and subsequently googling and browsing many other forums. I decided to go for it and start a project that (most likely will not be totally finished, but atleast it will produce couple usable terrain pieces for my games.

Nice to see that someone else got bitten by the terrainbug :-)

Really clever idea with the cd for base! I was thinking of using thin MDF as base but they are 3-4 mm thick at least so if you don't mind I will most likely steal that technic in my future projects

Looking forward to see it finished!

Time to make another update. I changed the foam I was using, and actually consider redoing the acropolis of heroes also, but perhaps I should just continue to all the rest and then revisit it again.

Can you solve the secret profecy of this Elven Monument?

So why did you change the type of foam you're using?

That original foam was very brittle. For example I had to do the tooths of idol of gork three times as it always snapped (and it would probably snap during playing numerous times. allthough paint coat would probably protect it little bit) Secondly this another type of foam was so much easier to carve and to have straight lines. The white one that was nearly impossible.

I dont know which foam you use now but the foam that is used by RC plane builders is great because it is sturdy, can be bent if required and does not soak up itself with water / humidity.

TBH I don't know exactly what that foam is either that it is called Finnfoam (which seems to be trademark) It seems to be much better at this type of work. On the other hand it seems to make my knife extremely dull which kind a surprised me. I carved the other type of foam when I made the venice and the knife stayed sharp all of that time ;)

Any way time to make small update on progress

Re: Loriel's Terrain / Model Blog. Shield of Saphery themed

My terrain project got little frozen. I got new inspiration to start yet another project that hopefully doesn't end up unfinished.

Let me present Shield of Saphery themed archmage wielding Fencers Blade, Book of Hoeth and Golden Crown of Atrazar

The crown of atrazar head exists. Its either in the Noble/Mage plastic kit or the Dragon kit. I forget which.
