Th3_5had0w_K1ng Painted Characters & Units
These are some of my miniatures that I have painted. I play Wood Elves and Daemons too so they aren't all High Elves.
The Teclis conversion is my first go at using "Green Stuff" and I'm still painting him. The Chrace Noble is actually a Marauder from an old edition (5th maybe?) and since GamesWorkshop doesn't have a Noble/Prince model with a Great Weapon (seriously, why do they all need shields and longbows?!?!) I figure that huge spear thingy he's holding would suffice. His antlers are from a Bretonnian knight helm.
I know a lot of these aren't based yet and for the most part they are a WIP.

"Looking into the steely eyes of his foes, Kolgar felt his blood run cold.
There was no fear upon the faces of the Elves, only ruthless determination.
With a silent prayer to Khorne, Kolgar hoped the Blood God was with him."

Lets get some more picture up so that we can see the rest of your work. Seems to me that your branching into green stuff. The more you mess around with it, the more projects you will line up for yourself. Ahh the irony of green stuff.....
Liked the capes on the PG, great flame work...

The flames on the Phoenix Guard cloaks turned out really well! Great job!

Re: Th3_5had0w_K1ng Painted Characters & Units
Update - wanted to show off my Wall of Heroes. These are my lords, heroes, and a couple rare choice daemons in the mix. Basically this is how I display my centerpieces of various army builds I have. Several of them are converts or OOP models and I know the picture is grainy but it's really just to show a cool way of displaying my models.
How do you guys display your models in between games?
I'll post another picture when it's daylight so it won't look like I took the picture with a potato.

I like the shelf/shadow box!
I have something similar back at home but rather it's a shelf I put together with 3.5 inch gaps between the levels. So I couldn't put a dragon on it!

You should water down your paints especially the metals. One can see the actual brush strokes on that shield.

That is one of the things i struggle with. Water it down too much and it takes hours to do a single shield... i already spend an exorbitant amount of time painting and sometimes i rush it at the expense of the quality of the model.Giladis wrote:You should water down your paints especially the metals. He's right though (actually you both are), parts of your work are quite good. Other parts look rushed.Th3_5had0w_K1ng wrote:That is one of the things i struggle with. Well, I guess I can say that this is the worst case of thread necromancy I've ever been responsible for. Decided to keep painting but all those miniatures posted earlier have been stripped 100% so I can do them justice.
Also if anyone is so inclined - my hobby blog on Instagram is coastsofcothique which is updated more often than ulthuan.net
New models:
WIP Spearman
WIP Mordheim Mage
Completed 1987 GW Noble

You've made a lot of progress for sure. The metalics on that spearman are very much improved. Nice work.
Re: Th3_5had0w_K1ng Painted Characters & Units
Looks good so far, definitely improved! The hair on the spearman is a nice contrast. Good luck and hope to see more!

Thanks so much guys. Any tips on painting pale Cothique yellow? I've tried multiple methods but none of it really does it for me. It's either too red from the yellow wash or too bright

As you're reckoning on more of a pale yellow than a warm yellow, I'd avoid washes with brown, red, orange etc which are the norm.
I would try experimenting with a thinned green ink or grey to give it more of a pale sea feel, this should tie in nicely with the teal.

Shoot, if it shows off photos like that to noobs like me, I can tolerate it.Th3_5had0w_K1ng wrote:Well, I guess I can say that this is the worst case of thread necromancy I've ever been responsible for.
On Cothique yellow: agreed with Olthannon. I think that scan of the Uniforms book is coming out a bit more green than my copy, but it's definitely a cooler yellow, which means greener tints. I don't know what paint ranges you use, and I had to go see what GW offers these days (changed a bit from the goblin green and vomit brown that I started with) but most of their yellows are definitely too bright or warm. It wouldn't be a simple procedure, but I'd try mixing dorn yellow with flash gitz yellow for the lighter tones, use a dull yellowish-green like ogryn camo or nurgles rot for darker mid-tones, and a dull dark brown, or even a hint of turquoise or bluish-green (wash or otherwise) for shading.
