Re: From which province does your Army/Character hail?

#31 Post by Shemhazai »

Greetings!

I have quite a problem with answering this poll.
Why? Simply because of reading skills, I pressume.

You see, my fellow Elves, I simply love the idea of a Phoenix Guard themed army.

But, here comes the problem. Where do the Phoenix Guard reign? I know the White Lions come from Chrace, Dragon Princes come from Caledor. But I cannot seem to find where the Phoenix Guard come from. Is it Saphery like the Swordmaster of Hoeth?

Thank you very much!

Well the Shrine of Asuryan is off the coast of Eataine, so I would go with that.

I'd say the Phoenix Guard come from everywhere. and nowhere. Although the vast majority reside in the temple island of Asuryan in the inner sea.
And as such would have no place in a poll about provinces.

I've oft considered a Phoenix Guard army so kudos to you :D

Mine is a colonial force. Specifically, the guard of the Tower of Stars.

As I figure it, given the lore that old Nagarythe families that remained loyal after the war were still seen with mistrust (are were homeless), making them colonial lords would have some appeal to the Phoenix Throne. Remove and isolate a potential traitor while still giving them an honor (and thus assuring loyalty if they are not prone to betrayal). Hence, my Prince is from an old Nagarythi family.

The army has a contingent of Sea Guard, of course, led by Sea Master Otheym (also a loyal eye for Finubar). In addition, the Phoenix King's cousin, Archmagess Lavinia, is at the tower in order to glean knowledge of the future from the stars themselves. She is guarded by the King's own White Lions.

And...for reasons unknown to all, a small contigent of Phoenix Guard landed on the island some weeks ago. They have yet to depart or make known their purpose.

I want to make an army from Tiranoc, with allies from neighbouring realms. I feel that I have to finish my current army first though, which will take a while. I could repaint, but I think I'd probably mess that up. Looks like I'll have to wait a while then, judging by the speed of my painting... :(

Good luck then! I'll be watching the army lists and painting and modelling sections for your army! :D

I originally (back in 6th) started a Chracian army. I loved minis and the honor bestowed upon the Chracian Elite.

As time went by I purchased more and more minis. I now love the fluff of so many Elf realms that I bought/made different shields for my spearelves so that I can base an army from quite a few realms and still look quite cohesive.

My citizen levy will all be from Yversse, I decided it wouldn't really make sense to have Eltharion without his own troops, whereas none of the other special characters are tied to the army (rather to specific units) like that.

I've been playing both Fantasy and 40,000 for a few years (O&Gs and Space Wolves respectively) and i've finally decided to make High Elves my new second WHFB army, hailing from Eataine!

I'm a fan of sea-side city's, so of course Lothern was spot on for me. Although I don't pay too much attention to the geographical theme, as i'm planning my army-theme focus to be the 'Sea Dragon' or Leviathan. I like how the High Elves incorporate so many magical creatures like Dragons and Griffons and White Lions into their units, so I decided to create my own magical creature-theme. I'm also toying with the idea of giving my units sandy, beach bases, or possibly bases that are partially or even completely water covered.

My Archmage (Aeduse) comes from Averlorn and is one of the Everqueen's advicers. Also he has been given the duty to protect the Everqueen by the Phoenix King along with a detachment of Chracen Warriors from his royal guard.

The thing is I love White Lions and Averlorn so I thought if the White Lions have been given the title as the Phoenix Kings Guard, then why can't they also protect the other ruler of Ulthuan.

Calehir leads a combined force from Caledor and Saphery as he is considered prince with lineage to both realms from his parents.
Althran comes from the great port of Lothern and leads a strong company of Lothern Seaguard with a personal retinue of dragon princes from Caledor, hand picked from his good friend Calehir.
prince Toran leads a strong chariot force from Tiranoc acompanied by a strong force of tiranic nobles, --silver helms .

All three princes are part of The Golden Company which reports directly to the Phoenix king Finubar.

The fluff I'm working with currently is as follows:

My General, Prince Khalanos, hails from Yvresse.
Khalanos for a long long time was the High Helm of a small unit of Silver Helms, and led them to many a victory against the raiding forces of the Druchii.
During a raid of unprecedented size however, his post was overwhelmed by Corsairs and was burnt to the ground while he and the survivors of his troupe fled to warn the larger cities to prepare for this horde.
The Druchii were repelled after all, but many Elven lives were lost, and the already spoilt lands of Yvresse were burnt beyond easy repair, architecture was ruined and bodies littered the plains.

It was on this day, that Khalanos lost faith in the decrees of his elders and ancestors. He openly questioned their decisions and in public claimed that abandoning the Old World was the most ill-informed and doomed decision that any elf had ever made. He believed the Asur were truly doomed if they continued to live only in Ulthuan.
His very controversial ideas brought him both hate and adoration and before long, he left the shores of Yvresse for the Old World.
There he and a very small group of loyal soldiers whom shared his views began to live a very... interesting existence among the men of the Empire. They fought with them in Ostland, repelling the Beastmen of the forests. They escorted wealthy merchants through the dangerous roads of Nordland and assisted in the defence of Averland from invading hordes of greenskins and bandits.
In this they sought not wealth, but acceptance. Khalanos believed that if men could accept that Elves were a great asset to their defence against all the dark beings assailing them, then they could join them in their Empire and the future prosperity of the Elven race would be assured.

Khalanos however, was disappointed and in some cases disgusted. He found the race of men to be unendingly cruel, forcing animals and sometimes other men to fight each other for the spectators enjoyment. They valued gold over life and were selfish to no extent with no respect for life or nature. They also were still suspicious of the Elves even after Khalanos' forces had proven themselves time and time again.
And so Khalanos left the old world once more with one goal on his mind.
To retake the old world.

Khalanos might enjoy the company of those on the Lost Ilses of Elithis..?!

Asurion has been there many times during his life and as the inhabitants share many of his views, was welcomed into the arms of Elf, Man and Dwarf alike. It's a very civilized culture there.

I've decided to do a Chrace (Chracian?) themed force since I like the white lion models do much. I'm taking pieces of the white lion kits and adding them to my other models.

+ 1 Cothiquie-weenie, my Army is mostly comprised of explorers/ merchants/ privateers/ whatever opportunity they find. Their merchant-prince backer, though, is from Eataine. He rarely sees battle, however, as he won't be seen anywhere without his pet dragon, and dragons aren't as useful as they could be on the battlefield these days. Plus the mud. He doesn't like mud. To be honest, he also gets seasick.

Araby

The War Host of the Tower of Dust.

Dust was a coastal colony city established by elves from Nagarythe on the south coast of Araby (The original Elven name of Calcar fell out of use fairly quickly).

After the sundering all of the colonies were pressured to choose a side. Dust had the advantage of a strong economic base from trade with the local tribes of Araby and smuggling mineral sands to the Dwaves, and so could resist the pressure to choose. When either the Druchii or High elves came to press the issue, the colony would disappear behind a violent sandstorm that could rage for days or months at a time. The local mages, aided in their understanding of celestial magic by the local Djinn - who were often little more than a puff of dust themselves - Were able to raise and maintain a wall of wind and sand effortlessly it until the aggressors left.

Dust has become a haven for elves who do not fit within either elven society. Made up of Druchii and Shadowlands refugees for the most part, they have not cut their ties with Ulthuan, with which they still trade and draw new colonists.

Neither Malaketh or the current Phoenix king are recognised in Dust. The War Host of the Tower of Dust maintains its independence as ferociously now has it has in the past since its founding millenia ago.

Caledor, as I've always had a soft spot for Dragons :)

There are lots of units from different regions though, especially mages from Saphery and Sea Guard from Lothern. Right now the army is a bit of a side project, as I've been concentrating on my beloved Vampires and Blood Angels lately :P

I'm an ex DE player trying to re-use as much as possible of my old army. Current plan is HE with a mix of HE and DE figures. Executioners as swordmasters, Reavers with cloaks and hoods, Dragon princes with CoK torsos and shields. Currently the archers are a mixture of DE warriors and HE archers with glade guard bows. I also have pairs of harpies as great eagles and a whole pile of corsairs with HE bows that are going to be something, I'm just not sure what yet.

Primary lore will be Heavens, with beasts and high being the other lores. No dragons or white lions, but giant flying lizards might proxy as great eagles for character mounts.

I am building the 'Army of the North' going with the theme of one of the standing armies that guards the Dragon gate. They are made up of untis from Chrace/Caledor & other provinces. They are going to be based on snow bases to fit in and also a dark colur scheme as veterans.

Indeed they are southern but the theme is they are the garrison at Dragon Gate ie. in The Army of the North, it's theme is one of the standing armies pulled from mutliple provinces. Unified colour scheme and I am looking at a warrior mage to lead them with the talisman of Hoeth.
