End of Days Out of character topic
The Four Horsemen have ridden forth, bringing with them their namesakes. Angels of the Heavenly Host patrol the skies, hunting for demons. The Legions of Lucifer run rampant through deserted cities to do battle with their holy adversaries. Between these two forces, mankind has suffered and died. Most of what once were central governments have fallen, only the most powerful managing to hold on to some form of existance. Those who remain relatively untouched by the war fear for the day it reaches them. This is the Apocalypse, the End War. And you're smack in the middle of it.
After watching a bunch of movies dealing with the apocalypse and finishing the Darksiders, I've got a sudden urge to run an RPG set during the time of the apocalypse. Some basic information about the game:
- The game is set in the fictional city of New Rock, where the front lines of the war between the angels and demons have most recently arrived (if any of you have played the Darksiders, the scenes at the streets are a lot like the beginning of the game)
- The game will use the SPAM system.
- The players will be regular humans (police officers, military personnell, school teachers, priests etc. are allowed, but for example demons or angels are not)
Questions? Willing participants? Or do I haveto drag you lot along?

I'm up for it, but I am busy with 'One Brief Shining Moment' and 'Strife', so I'll bow out if you have too many.

Re: A during-the-Apocalypse RPG
I'm interested. Any more info on what sort of weaponry our characters will have access to? Guns common? Holy weapons needed to kill demons? Are we fighting alongside heaven or hell? I think this whole Apocalypse idea could be pretty awesome and I can never have to many RPs. I'm leaning towards a Catholic priest character at themoment though I'll have to think on it.

Re: A during-the-Apocalypse RPG
Guns and regular weapons are as common as you might expect in the present day US, but there are no holy/unholy weapons to combat the forces of Heaven and Hell.It has been rumored that regular weapons harm and might even kill them, but there's no confirmation either way.

Hmm.. Might be interested. I am occupied with Strife and Bloodlines though so it'll depend on if Strife is actually gonna be very active all of the sudden and if Bloodlines is picked back up in the first place.
I'll personally come flying to finland if I wind up in this eagerly participating and you get lost in the woods again.

Re: A during-the-Apocalypse RPG
New Rock is located in southern Georgia.
And as promised, some fluff:
The timeline of events leading up to the Apocalypse:
2011, January: Earthquakes all over the world astound scientists. The catastrophies create a humanitarian disaster of unprecedented magnitude, causing strife and civil wars to ignite all across the world. This is later accepted as the doings of the first horseman, Conquest.
2011, June: After the civil wars in many third world countries and in the middle east powerful dictators and religious fundamentalists rise to power. In the middle east Israel is attacked by an alliance of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. The United States rally to supprt their allies. A nuclear device is detonated in Washington DC, killing millions. The retaliatory nuclear exchange effectively wipes out Iran and Iraq. North-Korea takes advantage of the current state of confusion in the US government and invades South-Korea. The wars escalate, bringing in China, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, the EU and the US. The wars kill millions. Later, this is marked as the arrival of the second horseman, War.
2011: The strife and a cataclysmic draught cause a dread famine. The rich first world countries manage to make do with their emergency stores, but the famine in the poor countries belonging to the third world is ravaging. The effects are felt in earnest after the opening shots of the Korean War and mark the arrival of the third horseman, Famine.
2012, February: The internal strife, wars and famine has killed hundreds of millions of people and in the wake of these events comes disease. This is later accepted as the arrival of the final horseman, Death. Doomsayers multiply all over the world, prophecicing the end of the world.
2012, May: Astronomers begin to notice subtle changes in constellations and planetary positions. The entire scientific community is baffled by this. An enormous comet is seen in the night sky.
2012, November: The earth tears open all across the globe and from its fiery depths legions of monsters pour out, descending upon humanity like a ravenous beast. Above these monstrous armies beautiful creatures with black wings are reported. The drastically weakened countries of the former third world are unable to combat them and are either butchered or worse. Reports of humans serving in these armies begin to circulate and the rest of the world prepares for war.
2012, December: The skies tear open and reveal a glorious sight: a vast host of angels descending from the heavens. Humanity cries out in joy and relief at their saviors, but their cries soon turn to alarm and terror. Not only do the angelic arrivals battle the demonic legions, they also hunt humanity for their own unknown reasons.
2013, January: Mankind stands alone. The Apocalypse has begun.

Asia is not included on the map, but the situation there is even worse than it's on that map (I just couldn't be bothered to draw it. Just believe me, it's bad)
Yes, New Rock is located on the US state of Georgia, not the country on the Caucasus.

Re: A during-the-Apocalypse RPG
Let's see:
Name: Baron Jaques-Philip Royale de Montpellier IV
Nationality: French
Age: 31
Religion: The Society of Friends - Quaker
Appearance: He is of average height, slim and has brown hair and eyes. He dresses with the unfailing style brought by lifelong wealth and classical education, is relatively well-muscled (nothing spectacular, but in well fit physical condition). His face looks much like you'd expect a French nobleman's face to look.
Background: Jaques was born into a noble family in Roussilon. His upbringing was conservatively Catholic, and he was devout enough as he went through his youth. He got excellent grades all through school, and dutifully learned what his family wanted him to learn. He left his family for Paris, where he studied medicine at the Sorbonne. During his studies, he became more exposed to radical ideas, but rather than abandon his faith, he simply modified it - he joined the Society of Friends at age twenty-two, and became an ardent member of the Paris community. His family was aghast and very nearly disowned him, but they came to accept that punitive action would not bring him back to the Catholic church.
Once his studies were finished, he joined Médecins Sans Frontières along with a few other Quaker doctors to go work in the developing world. He was in the field in Haiti when Armageddon hit, and Raphael's destruction of Paris(along with most of central France) caught him as he was trying to make his way home. He knows that his family was hiding in Paris at the time of Raphael's intervention there, and thus expects that he is the only still surviving member - he has, therefore, aquired the title of Baron.
He is now stuck in New Rock city. He has money, but money is worthless. He has a claim to some property, but he isn't even certain if it exists. He is alone and lost in a foreign land under assault from demons.
There aren't even any other quakers in the city that he knows of.
Currently, he's working on refugees to take his mind off things.

Re: A during-the-Apocalypse RPG
Oh btw, are you using the original SPAM system or the popular revision of 12 skill points instead of 10, Luna?

OK, I'm going with my initial idea of a nurse. Just one question, I was making up skills and put medical care as an Agility skill, assuming Agility is also meant as dexterity. Now I see Ashnari's character with medical stuff as Mental skills. Can I have medical care as Agility skill? It would make sense IMO, because nurses are less learned and more practical than surgeons.

Well Sewing would be an agility skill for example, but First Aid would go under Mental, if that clears it up any? It really depends on what you mean by medical care

Can I ask if this third world war caused conscription in the U.S.? And did all these warring nations bring their troops home around November-December 2012?

Yes, the draft was implemented. Some of the troops were brought back home after the Apocalypse struck, but most of them were left in the combat zones to fend for themselves resulting in some going rogue and forming their own, some would say, criminal empires. Most of these were later wiped out by either the demons or the angels.
