2000 points V.S Druchii

#1 Post by TripleDiamonds »

I am going to be playing against the Druchii tonight. 2000pts. I was wondering what I should be taking to the field?

any help would be appreciated. The general I am going up against has only a handful of games with this army under his belt. I know he owns the battalion and Army boxed sets.

Do you want to crush him, or have a fun game? is he going to be min0maxing, or is he goin to have a balanced army. Assuming the battalion, it'll be balanced, so my favourite army is:

Combat Prince
BSB
2 scroll caddies

2x 20 spears - command
10 archers

14 WL - command
5 DP's - champ

2 RBT
2 Eagles.

May be a bit over 2000pts, but shave a few of here r there and you're laughing.

forgive me for not knowing... but what does min0maxing mean?

also this is a club season of sorts... so I would like to win.. but win in a friendly manner :)

all that is at stake is bragging rights ;)

Min-maxing is basically powergaming - minimum core and weak stuff, maxing out on all the extra powerful stuff, like the dragon, 4RBT or lots of magic

As a Dark Elf player, I'd like to point out that the bolded/underlined is *not* how you power game Dark Elves. <3

Against Dark Elves, Spearmen work wonderfully. They will crush any DE infantry apart from the infamous ASF Black Guard. Against such a Black Guard unit, simply shoot them down with bows/RBTs... they are still T3 5+AS elves.

Next, you'll probably have to deal with a War Hydra. Dragon Princes are one of the best options for this, with their Fire Immunity (no dragons breath) and decent armor save. Pack a unit of 6 Dragon Princes, Standard, Lion Standard (to counter the Hydra's Terror) and you should be able to take them down in close combat. In combat, any DPs that can should strike at the very vulnerable Beastmasters to give you some easy combat resolution. You can also try to take a few wounds off with big shots from your RBTs, but it's easy to lose all of your firepower to a few lucky Regeneration saves.

Another deadly tool in the Dark Elf arsenal is magic. Some would say you need lots of magic defense, but personally I'm in favor of a standard scroll caddy defense and mage hunters such as Eagles to take out the fragile enemy mages. Should your enemy not take a magically offensive army, mage hunters usually work quite well as march blockers and redirecters as well, or perhaps flank support.

Using your dispel dice and scrolls effectively against a Druchii magic phase can vary greatly. It is not always the best to dispel the Power of Darkness spell, since although it does give them more power dice if they miscast those dice could come back to bite their mages in the arse. Definitely save your dispel scrolls for something nasty like Black Horror. This is probably one of the areas that requires the most practice vs. Dark Elves.

Well anyways, that's just the stuff I can think of at the moment... but it is late and I must away to bed. >.>
