Ranged army

#1 Post by laurie1 »

i was thinking of creating a army of high elves with a lot of shadow warriors sisters of Avalorn and, of course, archers. I've mainly focused on close combat high elf army's before so is there any advice about creating a ranged high elf army?

Cheers :D :D :D :D :D

Not that I can think of. I would say it synergizes with Shadow magic though. What points level are you looking at?

Yes. Take a Star Dragon. Avoiding combat 100% is impossible in this game, even Wood Elves are better off with some sort of counter-punch. Our big beast is fairly cheap for the flexibility it gives you.

The setup would be roughly like this, then:

SD
L4 Shadow

Shooting

Star dragon can do more than 39 archers? 63 archers with fully kitted prince.

Depends on the opponent I'd have thought.

Against elves Archers are useful but vs WoC the Star Dragon is excellent.

Pff star dragon you say? What can he do that Alith Anar can't :p

I've played a full shooting list with Alith Anar, reaver bow shadow armour noble, shadow magic, even loads of shadow warriors. It can work, but basically only if your opponent's list is a bit slow/inflexible, and lacking in crazy armour saves. You need a lot of redirectors, so eagles and reavers. It's fantastic against deathstar builds though; absolutely smashes ogres.

Fair warning though, it's not much fun for your opponent. No one likes getting shot to pieces. It's the basic problem with dwarves, yeah they fit their theme, but that theme makes a horrible army to play against.

Alith Anar looks interesting. A mobile, Stand and Shoot S7 bolt thrower who probably survives the game. Ld 10 rocks and he buffs the unit he's in, while being reasonably survivable. Combos with High and Beasts spring to mind.

What unit do you usually run him in lelthan?
