The sword masters

#1 Post by Arch Mage »

Ok so simply put they are my favourite unit and I want them to remain underdogs to the pg and wl but maybe they should have the options of being:

Ethereal
Magical attacks
Parry save or some form of a riposte both of which someone has mentioned
Cause terror in models with ws 3 and lower because well they scare the crap out of those players....

Get a bladelord with a 5+ ward save as a character and have magical attacks then always be able to take an LoS! And re-roll failed ones when it would be normaly allowed. And confer mr2 to his unit.
Can always take a mages place in cc

Do any of those ideas sound at all viable?

The only one that seems vaguely possible is some form of parry save. There really is no basis for any of the other rules to be innate to them. Magic resistance perhaps confered by a unit upgrade would be fluffy. Causing terror would just be ridiculous and I think your confusing the reactions of players and units there.

My greatest hope for them is to bring back the -1 to hit with missle weapons, was very fluffy and helped to provide them with some protection from their greatest weakness.

As to what will actually happen to them, probably not a great deal I think they will stay largely as they are, quite possibly just a drop in points to around 12 or 13.

Ethereal! FTW! Oh your god i would love that sooooo much! =P~

I have a sneaky feeling that it wont happen though as they get alot of shouts of 'cheese' where i come from already.

I would love parry save or some sort of protection from shooting and i would absolutly enjoy them to be 12-13 points! I see them being 14 or maybe staying the same though.

I also think your idea for MR is good and fluffy (seeing as they are from Saphery afterall) for our Sword Masters and its also something i have thought about before.

The other thing about ethereal and so on is it could be like the chosen of chaos, only one unit per lvl 2 or higher Mage.

Then the parry could be innate, as well as the -1 to hit for shooting.

MR could be a cheap upgrade, and would be rather effective since it cancels the issue of MM's to some extent.

Magical attacks should again be an option since they spend a hell of a lot of time with mages, surely when they forge their weapons they can get a favour from a friend, or at least some training in that regard?

The re-roll ones would be based on their mastery of their swords, the idea is that they know where to stick their swords due to their long practice, and are unlikely to aim fro the toe or ear or something... Again a cheap upgrade.

you know we have korhil, and caradryan, i thought a lot about an sm version, if you understand me. was it belanaithir? in the 7th ed book teaching eltgarion? i havent got my book on me right now, but i think it would be nice and fluffy, to be used like the de unit champion upgrade people - then (insert item from above) comes as a buff from him. good idea??

I really like the idea of the champ being able to step in for the mage in CC. They would be a pretty expensive/fragile mage bunker but it would be really interesting for say a death mage or something where you need to get close and i like the fluff behind it
