Hello fellow HE players
I'm participating a local 9th age tournament tomorrow a would appreciate som input on the two lists I've composed. I like to play a mobile army, combined with som though units for anchoring and protecting important characters. The lists are quite similar, but differ in the amount of ranged attacks and the quality of the anchoring units. Any feedback would be welcome as it has been a long time since last I played wfb.
First list:
High Prince – Ancient Dragon, Great Weapon, Force Shield, Divine Icon, Gemstone Amulet – 595 puts
Mage (white) – Level 2, Dispel Scroll – 120 pts
Commander – BSB, Master of the Canreig Tower (heavens, beasts), Mithril Mail, Talisman of Greater Shielding, Great Weapon – 218 pts
Commander – Dragons Mantle, Heroes Sword, Heavy Armour, Shield, Mounted on Eagle(Lightning Reflexes, Armour Percing) – 182
25 Sea Guard – Heavy Armour, Full command, Flaming Standard – 400 pts
5 Elein Rivers – Musician, Bows – 100 pts
5 Highborn Lancers – Musician, Mounts Protection (5+) – 125 pts
Sea Guard Reaper – Repeating Shots – 80 pts
Sea Guard Reaper – 60 pts
20 Flame Wardens – Full Command, Rending Banner – 370 pts
Frost Phoenix – 200 pts
Great Eagle – Lightning Reflexes – 55 its
Second list
High Prince – Ancient Dragon, Great Weapon, Force Shield, Divine Icon, Gemstone Amulet – 595 pts
Mage (white) – Level 2, Dispel Scroll – 120 pts
Commander – BSB, Master of the Canreig Tower (heavens, beasts), Mithril Mail, Talisman of Greater Shielding, Great Weapon – 218 pts
Commander – Dragons Mantle, Heroes Sword, Heavy Armour, Shield, Mounted on Griffon (Lightning Reflexes, Thunderous Charge and Devestating Charge) – 307
25 Sea Guard – Heavy Armour, Full command, Flaming Standard – 400 pts
5 Elein Rivers – Musician, Bows – 100 pts
5 Highborn Lancers – Musician, Mounts Protection (5+) – 125 pts
Sea Guard Reaper – Repeating Shots – 80 pts
Sea Guard Reaper – Repeating Shots – 80 pts
Frost Phoenix – 200 pts
Great Eagle – Lightning Reflexes – 55 its
14 Queens Guard – Musician, Longbows - 220 pts
So, as you see, the difference lie in the fire power and the quality of the anchoring units. I've always had success with PG and feel that they suit this type of army as its capable of withering though R&F units which are hard to deal with for the rest of the army. You could of course argue that such units should be avoided, but I'm no fan of having to avoid though units. The LS Can to some degree fill the same role, especially in toe with the beasts signature spell, but I stille feel there is a need for the PG.
If I choose to leave out the PG, I can upgrade the commanders mount from eagle to Griffon (I've got a nicely painted Griffon I would love to field) and make it a formidable threat, especially on the charge. Still, I feel the Griffon is a bit fragile for its price. Defensively, I gain one wound, one toughness and lose one point of armor save and movement. The added fire power from the upgraded RBT and the 14 Queens Guard are of course considerable, but is it worth it?
As mentioned, any comments are welcome. I'm really looking forward to fielding my HE for the first time under 9th age!

2500 pts list for local tournament
Re: 2500 pts list for local tournament
Just a little catch, but it potentially has a big implication on your list - Dragon Mantle is on foot only I'm afraid...
Regarding your lists - although obviously there are few changes between them, I actually think they handle super differently. As to which is 'better', I don't know - I'm still trying to figure out builds. I think probably both or either would work and go with your preferred playstyle (or preferred models ).

If you need ranks, you do have the Sea Guard and the flyers look pretty good at killing infantry.
I guess it's whether you need a ranked unit that can also kill. The list without PG might be more dependent on combo-charges.
