Highborn Elves : TAC Community Draft 2

Hello all,

This is the latest version of the draft. Since the BETA version is coming out shortly, not many new additions will be considered now. Keep in mind, point and balance changes are going to be constant for the next little while. There are also some grammar changes which need to be made.

Please note: The formatting is all wonky, which is no fault of ours. The new rulebook format does not copy well from Google Docs

Army Special Rules
Martial Discipline
Models with this special rule test to make Swift Reform, Combat Reform, and Restrain pursuit rolls on three dice, and may discard the highest.

Master of the Winds
If your army includes one or more models with this rule, add an additional +1 to channel attempts in the opponent’s Magic Phase.

Master of the Sword
At the start of each Combat Phase a model with this rule must choose to gain either +1 to Hit or the Distracting Special Rule. This decision lasts until the end of that Combat Phase. All models in the same unit must choose the same effect.

Fiery Adept
Model with this rule always generates the spell Flaming Swords in addition to his normal spells. The model may not participate in an Aided Dispel. Damage caused by the Path of Fire Attribute inflicts D6 S4 hits, instead of D3. At the start of each Close Combat Phase, all models in base contact with a Flameheart Mage suffer 1 S4 Flaming Hit.

Nautical Discipline
While mounted, the model has a Ward Save (5+) and ignores Dangerous Terrain Tests, as does any unit of Hawk Chariots he joins. If a Coastal Sentinel is on foot, he and his unit can immediately make a combat reform if it is successfully charged immediately after enemy models have been brought into contact.

Armoury
Moonlight Arrows. When fired from a normal Bow, Moonlight Arrows grants +1 to Wound, Armor Piercing (1), Magical Attacks and Flaming Attacks special rules.

Lion Fur. Model on Foot only. Wearer has Scaly Skin (6+), Scaly Skin (5+) against Shooting attacks. May not be taken by a model with Dragonforged Armour.

Dragonforged Armour. Heavy armour. The wearer has Fireborn and Ward Save (6+). This item cannot be taken by a model that has Lion Fur.

Elven Shadow Cloak: Model with this equipment can be deployed at least 6” from enemy units when using the Scout Special Rule and has the Blurry special rule.

Honours (Looking for a Name: considering Lineages)
Coastal Sentinel 25/10 points (High Prince and High Captain only)
Character must be on foot or mounted on a Giant Eagle or Hawk Chariot. Model has the Quick to Fire, Weapon Master, and Nautical Discipline Special Rules, and -1 A and -1 LD. May purchase Ambush for an additional (25/10 pts).

Queen's Handmaiden 30/20 points (High Prince and High Captain only)
Character must be on foot and has the Multiple Shot (3), is equipped with Moonlight Arrows and has +1 BS, -1 A and -1 LD. The Queen's Handmaiden and any Queen's Guard and Archer in the same unit have the Quick to Fire Special Rule and if the character is the Battle Standard Bearer the unit can act normally in the turn in which they rally.

High Warden of the Flame 75/50 points (High Prince and High Captain only)
Model has -1 Attack, -1 LD and he and his mount have Ward Save (4+), Immune to Psychology, Magic Resistance (2/1). Model and all the phoenix guard in the same unit have the Holy Attack Special Rule. Model loses Mount options and cannot be the Battle Standard Bearer, but can ride a Fire Phoenix (160/210 pts) or Frost Phoenix (200/250 pts).

Flameheart Mage 50/35 points (Archmage and Mage only)
Character must select Path of Fire when generating spells. Gains +1 Attacks, Weapon Skill, Initiative, Lance and the Fiery Adept Special Rule. Model loses normal Mount and Equipment options, and must ride either a Dragon Youngblood (170/150 points) or a Fire Phoenix (190/170 pts). An Archmage may ride a Dragon (300 pts).

Master of the Paths 95 points (High Prince only)
Character must be on foot and has the Master of the Sword, Blurry and Master of All Paths Special Rules. Model has -1 Attack and -1 LD, and may be upgraded to a Level 3 Wizard (50 pts). Model is a Level 2 Wizard but does not generate spells normally and instead knows every signature spell of the eight Battle Paths, and may be upgraded to a Level 3 Wizard (50 pts).

Mage Prince 50/40 points (High Prince and High Captain only)
Character is a Level 1 Wizard, who generate spell from any Battle Path or Path of White Magic. Character may only be mounted on an Elven Steed or Great Eagle.

Shadow Stalker 40/20 points (High Prince and High Captain only)
Character has the Scout and Poisoned Attacks Special Rules, and is equipped with Elven Shadow Cloak.

Rider of Tyr 15 points
Character must purchase a Horse Chariot as a Mount, and the model and any unit of Horse Chariots he joins ignore Dangerous Terrain. Up to two units of Horse Chariots may be taken as a Core Choice (maximum four models in total). May purchase the Vanguard special rule (10 points).

Warden of the Mistland 25 points (High Captain and High Prince only)
Character has Weapon Master Special Rule. A single unit of Elvish Spearmen can be upgraded for 6 points per model gaining Weapon Skill 5, Weapon Master and Bodyguard (High Prince & High Captain) and exchange spears for halberds for free. Furthermore the Standard Bearer of the unit can take a magic banner up to 50 points.

Lion Blood 50/40 points (High Prince and High Captain only)
Character must be on foot or ride a Lion Chariot. Model comes equipped with a Great Weapon and Lion Fur, and gains the Multiple Wounds (2, Monsters, Monstrous Cavalry, Monstrous Beast) and Strider (Forest) Special Rules. He and any Lion Guard he joins have the Swiftstride special rule.

Master Strategist 35 points.
Character adds +1 to Scout and Vanguard rolls. After Deployment, but before Scouts are placed, pick a single unit that does not include characters: it immediately can make a Free Reform and move up to 12". The unit must end within your deployment zone.

Natural Leader 25 points.
The character and any unit he joins is Immune to Panic and Fear. Additionally, the model add 3” to the range of Hold Your Ground or Inspiring Presence Special Rules.

Disciplined Mind 25 points. (Archmage and Mage only).
Damage caused to the character by Miscasts is resolved at -2 Strength. Model may not use more than 4 dice when casting a spell.

Channeler 20 points. (Archmage and Mage only).
At the end of the your magic phase, the wearer may store a single unused power dice. At the start the next magic phase, you can add that dice to your dispel dice pool. The model does not +1 when channeling power dice.

Daemoncleaver 40 points
Type: Great Weapon. Wearer has Ward Save (2+) against Magical Attacks.

Raider’s Bow 25 points
Type: Longbow . Range 30”, Strength As user +1 , Multiple shots (3).

Magic Armor
Helm of the Sea Drake 20 points
Type: Helm (Armor Save 6+). The bearer has Distracting.

Talismans
Gleaming Robes 45 points
Mage or Archmage only. Wearer has Ethereal special rule. Bearer and his mount may not make attacks, or take Magic Weapons.

Enchanted Items
Cloak of the Stars 25 points
Enemy spells cast against the bearer or his unit suffer -2 to their casting roll.

Trickster’s Talisman 10 points
One use only. Use at the start of combat phase. The bearer may re roll all to hit and to wound rolls until the end of the phase. Wounds caused by the bearer must re-roll all successful saves of any kind. At the end of the phase the wearer suffers 1 wound with no saves of any kind allowed.

Arcane Items
Book of the Wizard Tower 50/25 points
Once per magic phase, the bearer can reroll a single power or dispel dice when making casting or dispelling attempt, provided the dice was not a '6'.

Magical Banners
Banner of Nullification 75 points
Wizards within 6" of the bearer cannot Cast, Dispel (including Aided Dispels), and Channel. Magic Items (other than Banner of Nullification) within 6" have no effects (revert to mundane version of the items).

Banner of the Dragonlord 55 points
All Dragons within 12” are Stubborn. In addition, the bearer and his unit have Ward Save (5+) against ranged attacks and Ward Save (6+) against close combat attacks.

Banner of Sorcery 50 points
All Wizards within the unit receive +1 to Cast. In addition, Banner of Sorcery contains the following spell: Drain Magic. Bound Power Level 4. Range 18”, Universal. Instant. All Augments on enemy units or all Hexes on friendly units are removed.

Flame Swoop:
During the Remaining Moves sub-phase models with this rule can activate it over a unengaged enemy unit. Nominate one unit which the model moved over this turn. This unit suffers D6 hits, plus additional D3 hits for each rank the unit has. These hits are Strength 4 with Flaming Attacks and shooting attacks. Rebirth:
When a model with this rule is removed as a casualty, place a marker centered on the final position of the model. At the start of each of your remaining moves sub-phases, roll a D6 for each marker. If the Fire Phoenix is ridden by High Prince or High Captain add 1 to the result, except for rolls of a natural 1.

1: Dead Embers: Remove the marker
2-3: Dying Flames: Marker remains, but subtract 1 from your next Rebirth roll
4-5: Kindled Embers: Marker remains, but add 1 to your next Rebirth roll
6: Phoenix Reborn: Replace the marker with the model that was removed, including any Characters, within 3" from the marker (in any direction) and remove the marker. If you cannot place the model, treat the result as a 1.

Points to be aware of:

- We've removed 5 characters, in favor of fleshing out the Honors system. This has added additional flexibility in the army, and allowed for some of the options the community was craving. It also shortened the book by 4 pages.
- We need a replacement name for Honors
- Foot characters fighting characters are to be reduced in points across the board. Mount options (horse especially) to increase. These are placeholders. Treat them as such.
- Mundane items are being balanced across all books. These are placeholders. Treat them as such.
- Chariot upgrade options are now available to characters who choose them.
- Knights of the Dragon Realm must purchase Command.

- Many changes were implemented based either on the feedback of the Rules Team or the Community. It is all subject to change.

For KOTDR when u say say must purchase commamd, do you mean full command? For a unit of 5 thats a bit much isnt it? Along with the samll points increase (no problem with that) you are really paying 9 points extra per model in your unit of 5 for +1 strength. If you are going to use them this means that you will probably take just one big unit?
