Emperor question

#1 Post by Tuor »

Okay when Horus beat the snot out of the emperor why did he have Dorn lock him up in the Throne? I mean why? It would a lot more sense to become a Dreadnought that way he is still ambulatory and he can shut off the webway thingy in the palace and then go and lead mankind. Or am I missing something here?

Could be because it the Throne helps direct the Astronomican, and the Emperor's spirit as well as his body needed to be sustained.

Didn't he already direct when he was alive? Besides his soul and body would be sustained as dreadnought as well and he could still lead mankind

Dreadnought doesn't boost the physic powers of the Emperor like the Throne does. And I have the suspicion that a Dreadnought doesn't have the necessary life support capabilities.

Also, a dreadnought is damn vulnerable.

How much boosting does he need anyway? Besides if you have Rogal Dorn building a Dreadnought for the Emperor of Mankind you can be sure it wouldn't be that vulnerable. And as dreadnought he can still walk, talk, fight give orders etc. As for life support most marines who become dreadnought were a lot worse off than the emperor was

Purely speculative, his spirit/soul might have been damaged badly as well, and it seems to have been recognized that that was what kept the Empire united and gave a possibility to maintain communications, as well as partially neuter the warp influence on the Imperium.

And Die... Seriously, he's better off on Terra, in a f-off massive fortress than he is in some back water planet.

The Emperor got battered by Horus himself. Other marines just don't survive that. Heck, Primarches don't survive that - see Sangunius.

The Golden Throne is not merely life support. It is connected to the Chamber of the Astronomican where ten thousand psykers provide the power that is then focused by the Emperor into the beam of the Astronomican itself. The Golden Throne does what in death only the Emperor could accomplish in life, the entire Imperium crumbles without the Astronomican so it is far more valuable than any dreadnought body.

I would think that a live emperor would be better than a rotting corpse on a chair, and if he is alive the astros still function and the emperor is alive and mankind isn't done for

BTW all that happened to 'giunius was a crushed windpipe

howbout binding the emperors soul into a Titan! - now thats more like it!!

(unless Titan technology didn't exist way back then).

seriousely, whats the fricken difference between a dreadnought and a Titan? - only size as far as I can tell, surely the technology is fundamentally the same?

That would certainly be preferable but the problem is for all intents and purposes he's dead and no amount of Dreadnought internment will change that.

The emperor is on that throne acting as a light house and a club bouncer. Underneath the throne is one of the ancient warp gates (before the rise of the emperor). His power prevents chaos from pouring through; the custodes have been secretly fighting chaos post heresy. They are constantly beating the crap out of any demonic creature which tries to enter the "club".

I’m guessing that one of the main problems of putting the emperor into a dreadnought is the energy consumption, how the heck would it sustain him? Currently he needs 10,000 psykers a day to keeps the old guy ticking.

NOTE:I no longer play any GW games and what ever I say is what I remember from the fluff so it may be wrong and/or outdated.

Firstly the Golden throne is essentialy the mother of all life support machines. While in comparison a dreadnought is a childs toy that you would use to keep your gold fish alive. So there is no real reason that you would want you god/boss to wander around in that. And one more thing on the subject. Someone suggested that Dorn build an uba-mega-dreadnought to do the job. Simple practicaly would rule this out. He would have to, obviously, build one. Which would take a while and by then I would hedge my bet that the Emperor would be six feet under.

Any who, after the mammoth effort required to defeat Hourus the Emperor was physically/psychologically etc... drained. And seeing as, IIRC, Magnus had stuffed up his psychic shield around the imperial web way he had to sit on his little chair to make sure no demons got through into his science room area thingy. And again IIRC his non marine off sider (chief advisor I think), who was another sort of super powerful psyker, got totaly owned after sitting of the golden throne for a few hours. He died. Emperor got put on and was subsequently loaded with drugs/hormones etc.. anything to keep him alive.

Over time he has continued to waste away and the few cells left in his body are, as other have said, supported by 10, 000 suicidal psykers a day. Seeing as another powerful psyker got pwned by the throne after a few hours you would assume that no other individual in the galaxy could withstand the pain (although I do believe that before Magnus fell to the dark side the Emperor was thinking about putting him on there for a while. Although I may be wrong). So again there is no real alternative. And the Emperor is stuck there.

As I said I havent played for years, but the 40K background did interest me a lot and I can still remember quite a bit. Not saying its right, just I can remember some stuff.

PS. Titans were rolling around during the HH, and they are far more complecated than building a dreadnought.

Yeah I remember this guy. There is a picture of him on the throne in one of the Horus heresy art books. He was one of the emperor's trusted companions during the reunification wars. Apparently he turned to dust when Dorn toughed him to check if he was alive....poor chap.

That would be Malcador the Sigillite.

Why does the Emperor not run around in a Dreadnought?

Because this way - with the Emperor removed, stored away and yet elevated to godhood - you a nice hook for all kinds of theories and conspiracies which would just vanish if he actually "walked the earth" and actively took part in the 40K universe.

Well from what I gathered the Emperor is only "alive" in the most ambiguous of senses. He is not much more than a vegetable sitting on that chair (though his power is still strong of course) but I doubt he could actually do simple things such as move and fight in a dreadnought.

His body remains in existence, which anchors his soul.

IIRC dreadnoughts dont require the user to physically move to preform the dreadnoughts actions. Their activity is controled through the users mind, and therefor the user needs only some concious brain activity to utilise the dreadnought.

But again I may be remembering incorrectly and someone please point out if I am wrong.

Dreadnought. Read the link Cenyu provided it answers most if not all the questions posted here. It also explains why the Emperor can't be in a Dreadnought.

Ahh good old lexicanum. Used to use that a fair bit, and it does have some interesting, and sometimes rather unknown, background info.

Also glad to read that I was right about the MIU (Mind Impuls Unit) utilised by dreadnoughts. And it was Malcador I was talking about earlier. Thanks for the links guys :)

Sorry for not being clear, I really meant by saying "vegetable" that he is not actually conscious of the material world around him, being in a dreadnought would be something useless.

Ah, thank god for Lexicanum! :D
