They look epic indeed. With your colours they have a very "greek" feel for me. I like it. All that's missing now is some pictures of them in action in a battle ;)

It does read like you haven't yet completely figured out the best army list / options for them yet.

Cheers my dude

Its a new army, and with COVID preventing the number of games I used to have it might take some time to find a good list for me.

I came up with a fun one the other day I want to try. Its simple but can be really effective:

Zaitrec:

Scinari Cathallar - General, Fast Learner
Scinari Cathallar - Silver Wand
30 Vanari Auralan Wardens
10 Vanari Auralan Wardens
10 Vanari Auralan Wardens
20 Vanari Auralan Sentinels
10 Vanari Auralan Sentinels
10 Vanari Auralan Sentinels
Auralan Legion
Hyshian Twinstones
Prismatic Pallisades
Allies (370/400)
Isharann Soulscryer
20 Namarti Thralls

125W, 4 Drops

Basically 30 Wardens deploys center with 20 sentinels behind (inc characters)

Flanked by 10 Wardens with 10 Sentinels behind

Army moves forwards 6inch each turn until at points, using the 40 shots doing mortal wounds on 5/6 to reduce heroes/snipe support units.

Meanwhile the Thralls with Scryer can deepstrike anywhere within 9" or an enemy, get +3 to their first charge (so 6+ reroll with command point) to smash into someones rear line

Played a game vs Tempest eye Cities of Sigmar yesterday

Battle for the pass, realm of metal

I used the above list, he roughly had:

Freeguild General
Assassin
Knight Incantor
Celestial Hurricanum with Celestial Battlemage
Celestant Prime
3 Demigryph Knights
30 Crossbowmen
2 x 10 Freeguild Handgunners
20 Freeguild guard (swords)
20 Freeguild guard (halberds)
10 Shadow Warriors

So I won 18-9 at top of turn 4, but it could have gone either way as we were tied at the end of turn 3.

Neither of us got the double, and that hurt him, especially as he dropped his Prime down turn 1 to tie up my block of 20 archers from sniping his heroes, and it died turn 2 (he did kill 9 guys)

My Thralls tried to do something similar turn 1, but couldnt get enough into his crossbows to wipe the unit (I got 11) and they just got shot off the next turn, but it help them from shooting other stuff. Still not sure on the thrall/scyer combo. If I drop palisades and them it gives me 410 to play with so might see what I can get for that

Probably will try this:

Zaitrec
Scinari Cathaller - General, Fast learner, pretty pointless Zaitrec artifact tax (Ethereal/Solar Flare)
Scinari Cathaller - Silver Wand (Eclipse/protection)
Light of Eltharion
30 Vanari Auralan Wardens (Protection)
10 Vanari Auralan Wardens (Ethereal)
10 Vanari Auralan Wardens (Lambent light)
10 Vanari Auralan Sentinals (Eclipse)
10 Vanari Auralan Sentinals (Solar Flare)
10 Vanari Auralan Sentinals (Ethereal)
10 Vanari Auralan Dawnriders (Speed)
Auralan Legion
Hyshian Twinstones
Aethervoid Pendulum

I tried the below list, and it didnt wow me.

This is what I want to try now. Has a mix of everything and gives some good options

Zeitrec (Because I want the spell options and superiority)
Alarith Stonemage - General - Command Trait : Fast Learner - Artefact : Gift of Celennar - Lore of the High Peaks : Assault of Stone
Avalenor, the Stoneheart King
Scinari Cathallar - Artefact : Silver Wand - Lore of Hysh : Total Eclipse, Protection of Hysh
2 x 10 Stoneguard (Hammers)
2 x 10 Wardens (Protection/lambent light)
2 x 10 Sentinals (Ethereal/Flare)
10 Dawnriders (Speed of Hysh)
Temple
Twinstones
Sanctum

2 units of Stoneguard in the front with the King behind next to stonemage (with Sanctum on)
Flanked both sides by sentinals/wardens split.
Dawnriders either flank to get most effect.
Avalenor should be able to +1A both units of stoneguard most the time and they can attack together. They get rerolls for AS for the King/Guard which is why temple over legion
7 drops

only 20 sentinels but I wanted a more balanced army

I am loving everything about these wamphyri! The scheme looks excellent and your painting is just superb. Seeing those models makes me actually want to buy some, how do they match up to older models? I take it they are huge!

This weekend is wave 1 preorders for LRL so going to get

20 Sentinels
Endless Spells
Warscroll cards

I was going to get a Scinari Cathallar but I would prefer an alternative model

2nd wave though is where my money is going as that will be
Stoneheart King (big Cow)
Stonemage
20 Stoneguard

They look great. The lion riders especially are epic! It's often a nice conversion. And your Greek look and feel just works really well with them. Did you have this many lions lying around or did you raid some bits stores?

I had 16 Lion Princes from Warhammer, as well as 4 Lions Chariots and a few kicking around.

I made 10 Dawnriders with lions and I also have 3 Scourgerunner chariots with Lions also (in my DOK blog)

I am going through my old High elves and scavaging parts now like shoulders and heads (I had eternal guard heads on my white lions so might move them to my Stoneguard)

Forgot to post the other day about my game us BOK

Played Blades Edge (We didn’t use realms or secondary's)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Proxies:
Giant Lion – Avalenor, King of the Mountain
White lions – Pick stoneguard
Swordmasters – Hammer Stoneguard
Archers – Sentinals

Bok:
The Shrine on the left Obj near the last pictures are a summoned Bloodthirster turn 3

The empty oval bases on some of the Obj are ones that have been destroyed but we couldn’t remove the templates yet

Game ended 12-11 to LRL. Was very more of a win for LRL until he summoned the bloodthirster and destroyed my left flank.

The 2 x 10 Stoneguard/Stonemage/Avalenor/Cathaller were a great anvil unit that grinded through his army

Flank 10 Wardens were fine for what I needed them to do

10 Dawnriders were in combat with 30 Blood Warriors from turn 1 and stayed there till the BT got involved. 1 survived in the end after she legged it but managed to help out in the last combat to take the last obj.

Love the lion riders. I'm slowly wrapping my mind around some of the models, especially the Lumineth cavalry. Thnks for sharing.

Love the misplaced Bloodbowl player. :D That's some blocking there!

Man, that first photo. That's an impressive wall of death you have there. It looks great. Close battles are almost always best I think. They offer the biggest challenges for both sides.

That headswap actually makes it a pretty decent model. He looks pretty bad-ass. The lions on the base help as well.

#53 Post by wamphyri101 »

Sat 24th was our local 1 day 3 game event. Sadly as TO I had to drop out after Round 2 as a player had to go.

Game 1: total Conquest

Night Haunt list:
Image

I use my nights to run up 1st and take the top right obj while my army pushed up the middle. I kinda wished I had an extra hero to leave on an obj but oh well. I was out of range for most of my spells and shooting due to odd deployment (bar hitting some Chainrasps)

He got the double turn 1, but couldn’t really capitalize on it

Image

Turn 2 I shot off his Knight of Shrouds and turn 3 his Mourngul

By around turn 3 all was stuck in. Avalenor and 10 Stoneguard were in combat with Big Drogg and Kurdoss while the 10 knights who held up the big block of Chainrasps got some support from the other 10 stoneguard.

Avalenor made short work of the Giant and the King and the game was over bottom of 4. I had lost my Dawnriders, 10 Wardens and my stone guard were down to 6 and 4, but he had lost his army and

Game 2 was vs Seraphon (Thunderlizards) Focal points

Image

So I went first, Moving the Dawnriders forward on the right to just touch the Obj, and then moving the bulk of the army up the middle and some 10 wardens up the left. Shooting saw some wounds on the Oldblood (should of shot the Engine but never faced Seraphon)

magic was hit and miss. He played Kroak wrong (found out the day after) as he said he could dispel attempt for every cast I had, when its actually only 4.

In his turn he got some wounds on the Cathallar and dispelled her endless spell (as a 5th spell cast cause again he got his rules wrong)

He got a long charge on the dawnriders (who were Etheral), and with a rule I didn’t know, called Roar of Ruin, halfed the units bravery. With the -1 they already get from terror, I rolled Double 5 on my test. With the 4 wounds I got (I fluffed a lot of my 4+ saves) the rest of the unit ran. Sucks to lost them all but oh well, should have played them differently or 2x5 which I am doing now)

Image nom noms

He then got the double, which saw him use the engine multiple times and take out my Cathallar and some Sentinels. A steg charged my left Wardens and killed them (so many MW impacts) and the center had the oldblood charge 10 wardens and kill half.

The middle became a melee of combat, with the DreadSaurian joining below, catching the remaining wardens and sentinals, but my Avelenor and Stoneguard got in and started smashing heads.

It was a bloodbath, with the game only being decided bottom of 5.

Id lost my whole army and he had Kroak (3w left) Steg (2W left) and Steg (3W left) left to cap the remaining obj to win 17vs14

Thoughts:

So two games and some interesting learning points. I made some mistakes both games but that’s learning the army. I am going to split my dawnriders into 2x5, as they can be more useful that way I feel in my list. I didn’t have enough units with Protection of Hysh, so losing the Cathallar and enough Sentinels to not be able to cast hurt, so I need to add some in. Id love to add a 2nd Cathallar but not sure I want to trim a unit for it. Its like I could drop 5 Dawnriders for a 3rd Sentinel unit, but I don’t trust just shooting as it can be hit and miss

Lizardmen (or whatever they're called now) do make for epic looking monsters. And the bright colors suit them wonderfully. That's a great sight on the table.

It reads like there were some great learning points in the army. I always like the challenge of pushing my game-knowledge further.

That's actually a pretty nice terrain piece.

I just hopped over to the GW website (haven't been there in a while) and it seems like they greatly expanded the available terrain. And it's a lot better then what it was. Not everything covered in skulls is already a major improvement of course. But there's a few pieces I can see myself using in games as well. And several which would make a nice adition to a Mordheim game :)

Speelarcher is correct, The lions are from the old High Elf Lion Chariot kit.

My old HE army was Chrace themed, so based around white lions. I had like 3 lion chariots and 10 Dragon Princes on lions
