I like him. He's a nice centerpiece without being over the top.

How are vermin lords game wise? I think there's almost always better choices, so they rarely make an appearance. But I'm wondering if part of it is that no-one takes them, so no-one knows how to play with them.

I have horrible memories from long ago of one killing, in order, my elite infantry, my Lord and my Dragon. D3 wounds per strike was brutal. On the other hand, I took an End Times one out with a single Beast of Nurgle!

I think so!

The rules aren't so hot, especially against any shooting armies - its a very expensive unit with little protection. However, my opponents being Vampire Counts, I think I can make it work. The key bit is keeping him out of tricky combats - using Slave screens is crucial.

I'm considering taking an Eshin themed force (Sniktch and all) and using the Eshin ET rules for my model.

well, tricky combats and abusing slaves sounds like skaven allright. They're sneaky little critters... So you should be good to go. :)

I love the thematic possibilities skaven have, and that most of their thematic lists are perhaps not the most competitive but at a minimum viable lists. Let us know how it goes.

The Verminlord Deceivers are have AP, poison and a shooting attack with number of shot equal to the target units rank. Also are -1 to hit and can cast Skitterleap on themselves (and re-roll failed attempts to cast).

Bit of an update:

The battle went well - even though the Undead overwhelmed me with magic I was able to make a solid push with my Stormvermin. The got tied up with Kemmler, who caskaded, killing most of my dudes, while remaining unscathed himself. I got carried by the Abomination, which came back from the dead with full 6 wounds and finished off the Grave Guards.

Image

Don't mind the LEGO fire truck

I'm painting some Skryre guys right now, for the next battle. Here's the Doomwheels:

That’s a cheeky effort, even by Skryre standards!

That looks like an epic battle. Though it's always hard to tell with skaven how many points there actually are in the army based on the number of models... ;)

Interesting that skaven got overwhelmed by magic. Usually, it's the skaven magic that's the big worry.

I wonder what rules it has. There's probably explosions involved if it's Skyre stuff...

The doomwheels look great, as usual. If anything, they're a bit too clean ;) I saw a post somewhere a while ago, where doomwheel racing was mentioned as a spectator sport. These would definitely fit in there ;)

All those units in the bottom of the picture are Slaves of course  It was 2400ish points - Skryre battle will be next, though there is no set date yet. Whether the Fire Truck will be present is to be determined

I'm painting the weapon teams and some globadiers right now, will post them tomorrow probably.

Tell your opponent that. It's a great reason for having the battle as soon as possible ;)

I love the banner. Great and skaveny. Is it freehand?

The rest of the models are pretty damn great as well.

Your Ikit Claw seems maybe darker than the original GW paint job RE?

Cheers guys!

Ikit Claw is similar in tone to the other models - maybe its just the picture.

The banner is painted over a printed out outline of the 5th edition banner.

My opponent had no choice but to accept battle lest he be overwhelmed by the growing horde - its planned for the 8th of March. :D

The picture of Ikit is a bit on the dark or shadowy side. It's probably the big banner ;)

Smart. ;)

Do you already have any ideas for the list or scenario?

The list will be pretty much all the Skryre bits I have and can fit in, so:

Ikit
BSB
3 Engineers with various kit - Condenser, Rocket, Scroll, Brass Orb?
Svermin, 2x Clanrats, 3x WFT ( )
3x Slaves
2 Globadiers (lets say that's legal)
5 Jezzails
WLC
2 Doomwheels

The scenario is likely to be claiming the majority of 5 moveable objectives - warpstone shards.

I've already some Pestilence troops painted up - a Furnace and several Monks.

Looks lovely indeed. Should be a fun (and very explodable...) battle. Bring on the battle report!

As for the clan pestillence stuff, I love it. It's the kind of model that makes me want to start a Skaven army. And you've done it justice. Let's see how it performs in a next battle.

Thanks! Its a great model - a bit big compared to my 5th ed Screaming Bell but I guess someone had to show those Grey Seers!

The VC:

Blender Lord - mounted
Lvl 4 Necro
Vamp BSB

3x50ish Zombies
40ish Skeletons
2x5 Dire Wolves
3 Fellbats
5 Hexwraiths
10 Black Knights (BoSwiftness)
25 Grave Guards (BotBurrows)
Corpse Cart
Terrorgheist

Turn 1:

Skaven advance carefully - all except on Doomwheel, which moves 8", then misfires and speeds towards the Black Knights, ending up 1" in front of the Blender Lord...
I manage to wound the Terrorgheist with the Cannon and also wipe out the Hexwraiths with a combination of Ikit Claw's magic and firepower.

Image

The Undead are surprisingly quick in their assault - boosted by Vanhels Danse Macabre.
The Black Knight roll over one Doomwheel, while the other is destroyed by a Terrorgheist scream. Its demise panic nearby Slaves, who take an Engineer armed with the Brass Orb with them...
Fellbats successfully pick on a Warpfire Thrower.
Luckily the Dire Wolves fail their assault - the Jezzails manage to gun them all down.

That's a rough start. The doomwheels would have been very useful for dealing with the bigger baddies in the VC list. Of course, you've still got enough exploding stuff around. But with how agressive the VC army was, your time to use them is limited. Should be interesting from here on forward...
RE.Lee wrote:Thanks! Its a great model - a bit big compared to my 5th ed Screaming Bell but I guess someone had to show those Grey Seers!
There's only one solution here. The Seers can't just let those monks have all the fun. Time to start saving and to tell the missus that there's a new bell coming ;)

Rough start indeed!

Turn 2:

Clanrats attack and chop the Fell Bats to pieces.
I concentrate firepower on the Graveguards, looking to break through. I kill some 16, which is something, but its only by the end of the turn that I realize I forgot to launch the Doomrocket! Curses!

Image

The Terrorgheist smashed into the side of one of my Clanrat units, while the depleted Grave Guards charge the other one. The Zombie hordes shamble forward as well - one straight into contact with my Stormvermin, another into a legion of Slaves. The last one loses impetus and fails its charge. Combat is vicious (WS 1 vs WS 2  ) but inconclusive throughout the line of battle.

It was a wet noodle fight

Turn 3:

The Terrorgheist eats the Clanrats, bumps into a Warpfire Thrower.
The Grave Guards eat the other Clanrats and bump into the Ratling Gun.

Image

With my battle line crumbling I concede.

Image

A solid whooping of Clan Skryre. That first turn went really badly - without the Doomwheels my army had little punching power, especially once engaged. Still a fun battle - hopefully Clan Pestilence will do better!

I suppose Skaven are not renowned for their predictability!

Looking forward to reading about the next battle too. Although if it’s undead again I’m not sure infecting them with plague will be more effective than blowing them up... :-k

I'm hoping the loads and loads of Plague Monk attacks will make the difference. I'll also have the PCBs and an Abomination as heavy hitters.

The clan is shaping up nicely:

Blaming some of the rats who died is always an option, especially since they can't defend themselves. Otherwise, blame some random clan for intervening with your carefully laid and foolproof battleplan. Or one of your underlings (and deal with them before they get a chance to say anything in return) or blame your general and convince whoever is asking that you can do a better job.

The pestilence models are starting to look amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action. And they might put up a better showing than clan Skyre.

I'm wondering if you could have done anything different in your battle. It went from bad to worse very fast. And you lacked mobility to change a lot after T1. Maybe moving back a bit to give yourself another turn of shooting could have helped. But I'm not sure if there was space for that.
