Hello all

I notice you don't have an introduction forum anymore so I thought this was a good place to post.

First of all, site admins - please update the registration captcha software to V2 because the v1 system is no longer active and so it's impossible for new people to register. Also there's no way for guests to contact admins and so I had to go through an extremely roundabout method of registering (contacting Ric, one of the old site admins whose email was available, after creating an account on dakkadakka asking if anyone from here was also on there). I think perhaps you guys weren't aware of this issue and likely why you aren't getting anyone returning!

Secondly, hello! I used to have an account on here a very long time ago and high elves were my very first Warhammer army. Recently I found them again and decided to strip them all down and repaint the lot. I also picked up a battalion box and some lovely 4th edition archers on ebay to add to the collection.
I'm currently in Nepal working with UNESCO but when I'm back I'll get down to some painting and I'll start up an army blog to document the whole thing.

I've not kept up to date really with Warhammer since I stopped playing so the Age of Sigmar thing is a bit of a shocker. I'm still not quite worked out what on earth has gone on there..
The only Warhammer related things I've been up to in the past 10+ years have been total war and Vermintide.

Anyway that's all from me for now, I'll be around to post more later on, I hope there's still a few people knocking around here at any rate.

All the best!

Hi Olthannon, welcome! There's still a bunch of us around here. I'm looking forward to seeing your army come together. The 4th ed archers are lovely models indeed. And the battalion is pretty good value for money I think.

I'll see what I can get done about the captcha issue. Thanks for bringing it up. We currently don't have anyone with a lot of technical knowledge maintaining the site, which is why we probably ran into this. But I'll get it sorted somehow.

Also, if you still remember your old account, I can see if I can dig it up for you and get you access again.

You're not alone in your feeling towards age of sigmar. Some people are playing it (the new edition is pretty solid from what I heard), but more people either dropped out, stayed with 8th edition (or earlier) or moved on to the 9th age. Do you have any people to play with nearby?

Most of my army is made up of the 5th/6th edition army box that was about 100 quid back in 2003? Plus a few units I picked up over the years. The only new model I really have is the lion chariot from the battalion. I picked up the battalion for about 30 quid and sold the archers sprues for 25 so it turned out well. I'm just planning on dettoling them back to scratch and starting up again. I think me and a few friends are thinking of doing a few small point games. Whether we can all get together is a different matter!

I think my account was something like Prince Rowan but it was only 300 posts to my name so not too fussed. I was there for the huge Warhammer campaign you guys did which was incredible.

As for AoS I'm just surprised at it, especially the loss of the model lines for what appears to be simply copyright issues. The new armies just appear to be 40k and the prices are comical to say the least. Still I'm more than happy to play with my old models and 6th edition rules!

6th edition was a good rule set. But, sadly, I think it's also what started us toward the end of WFB and into AoS. I just completed an army for 3rd edition. I need to get army shots of it up, just so people can marvel at how crazily small it is compared to the model counts we needed in 6th edition, and things only got worse (as far as needing more stuff) in 7th and 8th. All were fine games, but the barrier to entry got really high.

I think something like 3rd edition would be something we'd have to stare at and look into for a while, whereas the 6th edition rules are collectively burnt into our brains. Still the smaller army size sounds appealing!

It's honestly not an easy ruleset. And requires a VERY laid back attitude about gaming to work at all. If you have the army made, expect Warhammer to be about big battles (personally I prefer warmaster for that), and/or want things to be fairly balanced by the rules rather than by player choices then 6th edition is in many ways the better game. 3rd also lacks things like steam tanks and squigs. But anybody that's worth playing 3rd edition with won't have any problem with you using them.

Was Jes still doing the High Elves at that point. I'm not sure why, but I was pretty sure he was kept constantly busy with space marines around that time.

Yes he was Shannar. I have ‘The Gothic and the Eldritch’, the JG sketch book and it’s full of concepts (including an Archer) very close to the finished range. The White Lions and Swordmasters were sculpted by Aly Morrison though I suspect? The contemporary first Eldar Craftworld range (also JG) bears some comparison to these High Elves. But yeah, there are lots of pics of Space Marines too!

WL and Swordmasters were either Aly or Trish. I didn't realize that Trish was still at GW until this past December, and did a ton of the newer stuff.

My first fantasy armies were High Elves and then Skaven so yes I'm a real fan of Jes.

I'm finally back from working in Nepal so I can get back to painting. I'll paint up another couple of the archers and then start up a log!
