Next Elder Scroll game announced

Just saw this come past The Elder Scrolls VI.

I'm excited. I love Skyrim and Morrowind, the two parts I've played a lot. I've also played redguard, but it's much smaller in scope and feel then those other two. So, bring it on! Still a few years out of course. Gives me time to update my console (and TV most likely) to a more modern version :)

I honestly haven't been so excited game in living memory. Given how amazing Skyrim is, one can only imagine what VI will bring.

I wouldn't get too excited by the announcement to be honest. Recent actions by Bethesda cast an ill omen for their future projects.
I'd be as hyped as you are, but due to shambolic behavior of the company in question and recent watering down of Elder's Scrolls lore I have to admit, I'm a wee bit scared.

What I mean is the world, while still somewhat exciting, got streamlined for the TESO removing some cool features and adding some attrocious Deus Ex Machina plot twists ex. some emperor reshaped a jungle into a temperate forest because yar ghar we need to alter the world somehow, or paralel universe theory called the dragon break, which toys with the consistency of the world by rewriting history.

Anyways, I'm still trying to stay positive about TES6. I Wonder, do you play as an Altmer?

I am very excited to play a new TES. I've only recently got into playing online and I've got to say I'm pleasantly surprised. The quests for the Daggerfall Covenant have been amazingly enjoyable and it's been great fun to play off and on.

I loved Morrowind and was happy enough with Oblivion. Skyrim although updated was a let down, the main quest was boring although nevertheless I've put a lot of time into it over the years.

When I started playing morrowind when it came out I did intend to play as an Altmer, however the whole 100% weakness to magic racial trait they had put me right off so I've had an Orc ever since.

You're right Lynve that it's very well possible that the whole thing will disappoint. But I'm a naturally optimistic person so I'll just stay excited until proven wrong ;)

I had fun in Skyrim. Yeah, the different major quests could have had some more depth to it (though the thief and assassin one were fun). But all in all, I had lots of fun playing it. And I thought Morrowind was just great. I put loads of hours into that game.

Of course, I did ignore all the small TES stuff that has come after Skyrim, so I have no idea about the direction they're currently going with it. I'll find out at some point.

I must say I never got into Oblivion. I only got it after playing Skyrim. And the menu structure and game controls just felt too complex and counter-intuitive compared to Skyrim. Which really took away from the experience. So I only managed a couple of hours of that.

I dunno, I thought Skyrim had beautiful visuals (reminded me of home :P ), but I've never been a fan of the 1st person view and the story and quests were rather lackluster. I also thought that it was rather unfortunate how there were essentially no drawbacks to anything you did (e.g. you could do all the Daedric quests on a single walkthrough and nobody cared). Contrary to mainstream opinion, I actually really enjoyed Fallout 4, so if the next TES is more in that vein, I might check it out (with less settlements needing my help, obviously...)

Yeah I really didn't enjoy the fact you could just do anything and join all the guilds. I think for one of the main quests or maybe the civil war one you need to go do something for the mage guild and my massive orc with a two handed axe accidentally did a bunch more quests for them and then somehow bumbled into being an archmage despite having no magic beyond the occasional healing. It was a bit daft.

I think this has been a thing in most elder scrolls games. And in Skyrim there are more consequences then in most of the previous ones. There's a few choices that at least dictate what comes after (like in the civil war case, though it's a bit a wash). But indeed, actions having more consequences would be good.

In the past at least, for some of the quests / guilds you at least needed a minimum level in certain skills to advance beyond a certain point. I know for sure that for the mages guild in Morrowind you needed at least a certain level (something like 10) before you could move beyond being a novice. Which was both fun and in character, but perhaps also a bit annoying for the higher levels where to become archmage you needed to grind it out for a bit to get there.

True that Rod. Every guild/ noble house in Morrowind had a certain set of skills, which they took under consideration when taking you in/advancing you in their ranks. Given the leveling system was a bit less grindy and tideous that design would have been the best. The orc barbarian archmage combo would have been realistically prevented, unless the orc in question would in fact learn how to cast spells right and proper. Not only that, but your affilations actually had a global effect on how others liked you ex. if you were a member of House Telvanni (separatistic mage lords/slavers) you were hated by other noble houses and the Mages Guild. Then again it was kinda unrealistic how everybody knew you did belong to a certain group as if you had a sticker on your forehead.

That seems to be the case with Bethesda's games lately. Only recently I had my Minutemen General become the chairman of the Institute, while also winning a title of overboss in the Nuka World DLC. That's just way too many hats to wear at once.

I liked how affilations were solved in Gothic. You chose 1 faction and more or less sticked with it.

Yep in Morrowind (incidentally one of my favourite games of all time) you had to be level appropriate, and the levelling system in Morrowind meant that you couldn't take every skill and the skills that weren't your major and minor would not effect your levelling. Oblivion continued that to a certain extent but with Skyrim it was totally removed. I can see why they did it and I guess I don't have a problem with it but I would like the option maybe to choose?

I'm guessing they tried appealing to the casual gamer crowd and design the game in such a way that you could complete all quest-lines in one playthrough (or maybe 2/3 if you wanted to play both sides in the civil war etc). And with the system of leveling in place, where you gain an overall level and then have to assign points to a skill, and each next level is slightly harder to get it means that for most players having more then 2 or 3 skills maxed out is not an option. So they made it such that nothing much depended on specific skill levels.

I must say that the weirdness of the environment and story depth of Morrowind make it stand out for me as a game.

Has anyone been playing Elder Scrolls Online? Because I've been really enjoying it. Didn't play it for years and then picked it up cheap maybe 8 months ago and it's so worth it. The Morrowind chapter is very well done and is a real joy to play and explore the early history of the area. I was put off it for ages but I've just been playing solo.

No haven't played it yet. I'm not that big a fan of online RPG's or the idea of it. I simply want to purchase a single game and play on my own without other people roaming around. But perhaps that was just the few short experiences I had with WoW. That felt very shallow and boring.

I'm playing it atm. Bought it 2 years ago and had pretty much done all the content on 1 character (with silver and gold campaigns -> lets you play Covenant and Tribunal (forgot the Dunmer/Lizardmen/Nord faction name) with your Aldmeri character. I purchased Morrowind but kinda lost interest after a while because my mates stopped playing. Currently I'm running crafting and trials on my main but steadily building my second character just for fun. Should you need a helping hand or cheap furniture designs do let me know :D
