For me theres a real issue with maintaining interest in that series considering the huge gaps between books

Yep, that very much contributes to my thought that he'll likely die before he finishes. He's not a young man.

I read the existing Game of Thrones books. Killed any interest I had in finishing watching the series.

I have gotten some reading in (other than to my son):
"Dead Wake" by Erik Larson (about the sinking of the Lusitania)
"Angels in the ER" by Robert Lesslie (true stories from his career as an ER MD)

Currently working on "Norse Mythology" by Neil Gaiman.

House of Chains by Erikson, something like the third Malazan book. Karsa Orlong is an interesting character (if something of a sociopath).

Just looked it up, and the Malazan books look very interesting. Hadn't heard about them, but I'm definitely adding them to the reading list.

Just finished il Principe, by Nicolas Machiavelli (though in a Dutch translation, not the original Renaissance Italian...).

It's a fun read, with some interesting insights into how power, getting there and keeping it work. It's not all relevant to today. But a lot of it can be extrapolated to how the world works. People haven't changed all that much. Also, very applicable to High Elves.

It's a thin book and a fun, quick read. I can recommend it to people interested in history and management related non fiction.

Next on the reading list: The Circle, by Dave Eggers. Fun and very captivating so far. More on that will follow.

I rather like some of his stuff. But this one, not as much.

I guess I’ve soaked up a lot of Dickens from TV etc but reading the books would be good. Saw a stage production of A Christmas Carol once.
