Last friday, a 20 years old woman died in the subway. Security cams showed she just walked between 2 wagons and fell down under, on close inspection, she had her eyes on her cellphone - as if nothing else existed in the world, and stepped forward thinking she was getting inside a wagon. Subway went on its merry way because no one noticed the fall, only after a while did anyone notice the blood down there, they found her body still under the subway as she was dragged by it.
People have got to let go their devices.
Reminds me of that story where the guy was texting with his girl asking unimportant things and she stopped replying - she had a car crash because she was "Texting and driving".
The addiction to these devices causing unnecessary deaths is really sad.

Only the stupid people are dying, not that big a deal, stop being stupid and using your device when you shouldn't...

Sometimes I reflect upon how our minds and bodies aren't really made for this modern, western, urban life we're living. During human evolution we've literally lived for hundreds of thousands of years without much change in stimuli going on at all, then in a few decades we're stuffing bright lights, ads, music jingles and whatnot through our brains just by walking down the street.
Not too long ago travelling meant putting one foot in front of the other in the countryside, with plenty of room for safe daydreaming. Now, it's something that apparently requires focus, lest a single mistake could kill you. Considering the fastest human ever runs at about 40 km/h, it's pretty amazing how we allow ourselves to load up in these big metal boxes that does 120 km/h on the highway. Small wonder then that tens of thousands of people gets killed in traffic each year in the U.S. alone. Like the headline points out, all it takes is a moment of distraction (from you or someone else) and you're gone.

Eric, assumedly Elessehta has posted all 10 of his posts per day on Ulthuan.net since he's joined the site a couple of years ago only at opportune, silent, safe moments. Pity the people with busy lives, eh?
It's a very immediate problem for the modern always-connected society to deal with. I consider myself pretty bright (don't we all) and yet I often walk down a busy London street with my phone in my face, just waiting for a road to appear without me noticing to be squished by a cabbie with nothing on his mind but his next fare. Sure, I get to read an email before I reach my destination, but is it worth possible squishing? Probably not. And yet, I do it daily. Still alivethough, woo!

What I posted may have been inconsiderate, but not being able to disconnect from technology is a a 1st world problem which should be easy to fix.

All current gen techno-addicts seem to walk right into trouble.
