I'll believe it when I have it in my hands. :) Besides. We still have Winds of Winter and Promise of Summer (was that the last one?) to come in about...2025?

I have just finishes watching full episode 1, and I must admit it was quite good.

The scenes from the Trailer were not so astonishing, but the whole "King's party" was made good imo.

I guess, I will continue to watch that series, even though the level of nudity is quite hard. During the scene with Tyrion I even thought that this is going to be a soft porn, but they cut it.

Anyway i give a plus to this series. Also - the British accent didn't kill me this time 8)

It's now episode 8 and I have to say I think the series is getting better and better.

It does especially good at knowing it's budget. There's been no flashy CGI huge battlescenes but what they do show you looks real and sturdy. No plastic shields etc.

The previous "soft porn episode" made you decide in favor of the show?

I've been thinking about the battle scenes. I really hope this isnt one of those shows thats all about war but never has an actual battle. Apart from that its all class.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.

And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

In the books the battles start in the next novel, Clash of Kings.

From my experience with HBO shows, they start out with a lot of sex in nudity in the first season and a half and from there it starts to appear less and less as the show goes on. When Rome started, it seemed there was a sex scene in every episode, towards the end, it was like one for every 4 or 5 episodes. I think HBO takes advantage of being able to show those scenes and uses them to draw in an audience, once they have a steady audience they'll tone it down methinks.

I agree. That series is getting better and better with every episode.

Personally, I quite enjoy Jon Stark and Samuel as I did when I was reading a book. Tyrion's episodes are some of the funniest. People from the North have great costumes. Lannister's armours are really fine. Drogo is also very convincing.

The only character I find quite unrealistic, and flat is Cersei, who was much more intense and errm.. sexy in the book. On TV, she never touches anyone, which surprise me, cos I remember Ned's Stark thoughts about her beauty while they were talikng in the garden, he even touched her face, and so did she when she asked him about his children. She was much more emotional and nubile. She actually flirted with other characters.

Well, let's leave this plot..

I am becoming quite a fun of the TV series.

The series inspired me to read the book.

So today I did.

I actually hate the sex scenes as I find that they are just tacked on. Like Rome, Spartacus etc it seems to simply be a plot device to woo certain viewers.

I'd rather have a lot of clever camera work etc than a god awful battle scene. I recently watched "Barbarossa" which was a low budget film that tried to pull off the large scale battle scenes and just looked terrible and as a result made the whole film terrible.

Rome, Carnival, and Entourage all got more reasonable as they went on, I can only assume that this will too.

Judging by the books, not really. The books just seem to add them in for no reason at all generally, and they're way too descriptive for my tastes.

Incidentally, I finished the fourth book yesterday (or book three part 2) and really enjoyed them so far. I found book three a bit slow, but been really impressed. Without giving too much away, I like the fact that anyone can die, and die suddenly. There's only two characters I think will survive at the end.

Crap. I finished book 1 yesterday and was toying with the idea that a certain someone wasn't dead.

First off it was going to be the son who would lead Drogo and others to war, then it was going to be Drogo who would get the iron chair for his son who would be a Targaryan and now it seems it's going to be the Khaleesi.

It has been yonks since I read the books and I knew you-know-who was going to have his you-know-what removed, but I couldn't remember when. Which meant I spent most of the series going, oh, here we go, bye-bye, oh...wait...no...hmm...must be in the next episode.

I liked it though. Peter Dinklage was awesome.

I'm now onto "A feast for crows".

I have to say that I am getting a little bit vexed with the series. He sets up these awesome characters, each with a possible path to the throne whether it's the Baratheon house with it's religion, Targaryans with their "You know what", The Starks with their armies, The Greyjoy fleets or the Lannister Gold that will win the crown.

That said I now feel like I am five books in and he is still just setting up these events, and every event that does happen just moves one team back to square one but no team seems to actually be moving forward.

The first casting choice for season 2 has been made. They chose a 29-year-old for a role of a fifteen-year-old. Hmm. Then again Daenerys is like 13 in the books, so...

I. figure that if they ran it close to the books, they'd get a little close to child porn for the tv. I can,t read the books without imagining the characters older than they are.

You can tell the series has gone mainstream when it inspires editorials in the NY Times.

They had to age-up the characters as it is illegal in some countries to imply underage sex on tv. Dany is 17 in the series and all the other children have been cast a few years older too. I think it helps with characters like Dany, Arya and Bran having such big roles, it would be difficult to make a good tv show with such young cast members carrying the story.

I know this post hasn't been commented on for a while but I'd just like to add the first two seasons were amazing and I'm currently reading A Clash of Kings, I can't wait for season 3 and the new cast members http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpSDSgChsaI

I didn't know this thread existed until now. I started watching the series from the go (just stumbled upon it when channel hoping and caught the starting credits and right away was addicted).

I have not read the books but from what i read on this thread i don't think i'll enjoy them.

As for the sex i think they did start to tone it down in series 2. There was a battle at King's Landing that was cool as the season finale. But i'm with others as i would prefer more of the intrique and back stabbing with good character building.

Favourite character story is Arya. Then Tyrion (no not THAT Tyrion, Tyrion the dwarf...wait that doesn't sound right).

If you like fantasy novels, Song of Ice and Fire is up there with the best. If you don't like fantasy, it probably wouldn't change your mind. Despite the lack of overt magic, it is very fantasy.

A friend just gave me the first series on DVD, I'll give it a look. I'm sure it's fun, I like the books!

I read all of Harry Potter (only liked the first 4 though). Read all of The Lord of The Rings which was hard going but i liked it. I mostly read Terry Pratchett and Steven King but i am willing to give more fantasy novels a go. In fact i can't stand the kind of CIA books where its about a murder case with plot twists of "oh it was HIM!"...boring! Tried reading some Tom Clancy of my Dad's collection and was asleep 5 minutes in. So i think i'll enjoy fantasy novels.

Its surely worth a watch as its a nice break from all the reality TV crap thats out there!

Really am interested what the Wightwalkers of the North will do!
