I love the National Secular Society.

I'm pretty sure you can send a letter to the Vatican if you're catholic and they send you back a piece of parchment excommunicating you and promising you damnation, brimstone, fire and hot pokers up your backside for all eternity.

Damnit, I was seriously hoping this would be another excuse to mock metal. Eh, too bad.

Pretty ridiculous on its own merits though. Seems just a bit too rituaistic for a "secularist" society, no? Isn't this what therapy is for? Reminds me of how the brilliant comic John Hogdman described the church of satan as an atheist support group with fancy outfits. So much for actually escaping the grip of the church

Obviously, our irreverent certificate of debaptism is a bit of fun.
After all, the concept of baptism is a complete fantasy that has no meaning outside the heads of the religious. However, many people do wish to make an official break from the church.

I was correct, there's the Apostasy. Some atheists gave me a paper last year, while I was on vacation explaining me this... of course, I don't need it.

I think it's a matter of principle for some people. You know, that thing in our conscience that make us do silly things.

Wouldn't a ceremony signifying your apostasy be just as useless as a ceremony signifying your acceptance of what these esteemed intellectuals would invariably dub a "Flying Spaghetti Monster?"

Just a thought.

Think that there is something to that, I find it funny that some ateists use religious zeal and argumentation form about there being no god(s), activedly promoting their own belief.

Ironic that the war against religion is a religious war on both sides eh?

Its less ironic than it might seem. Fundamentalism and antagonistic zealotry is not the province of religion, persay. Its an easily accessible part of humanity's worst elements (the dark side", if you will).

All I know is in a war between fundamentalist groups, I'm going after all of the bastards.

I think you're being to fundamentalist about it. Come with us, have a drink, burn a church... you know, relax.
