The origins of your forum avatar

#1 Post by Burning Sun »

This is a distinctly different thread from the rather similar Warhammer related post.

Where did your avatar (As in picture by your posts) come from, and why did you choose it? Does it have a significance?

Personally, the last 6 of my recent avatars have been created either by me or for me.

Image
Was where I started. This is an older picture.

Image Image Image
These three were as I went through a bad patch and into a good patch with my family.

Image
Was as I started the campaign in a pink mood

Image
This started out as a project to do create something completely different, but it ended up as a swamp, and as my avatar.

Image
My avatar at time of typing is another reality representing one as I go through a dark time.

There was a suggestion I should go through the campaign using various avatars to represent how the campaign is going. But as I still have no clue how the campaign is going for Chaos, this has been shelved short term until I have some idea if Chaos is winning or losing.

I just thought this avatar of mine to reflect me as a person or something :o :P .

I've always had female avatars for some reason, most with an eerie and/or terrifying look. I guess it's just my freudian, repressed desire to find a woman who is as strange as I am.

Well, mine is fairly obvious.
As many of you may have noticed I am a Bretonnian player .
One day roughly 5 years ago I was roaming through the GW website and I noticed a cool looking knight charging some enemy, and since nobody I knew was using him as an avatar I decided to use him myself.
I have used this avatar in all my warhammer forums ever since, and I guess due to me being a traditionalist I have never changed it. I figure since nobody else has used it besides me thus far (I think :D ) it can work as a nice identity trademark! :)

My avatar is the Silver Ghost, who is from Baldur's Gate I'm almost positive. If not, surely Icewind Dale or some such.

My previous avatar was the Black Lotus... if you don't know what it is well then that's too bad.

I haven't a clue what card that is. Much like my current one is also from the ccg but I wouldn't have a clue from what particular card. I've only managed to find a few pieces of art from that to use.

In the past I’ve used Squall Leonhart from final fantasy 8 and now Cloud from FF7. When I was younger these fictional characters were my hero’s I really aspired to be like them. Still think their coolest people in existence

My first avatar on the site was some obscure picture of one of the High Elves in golden armor from the prologue of the Fellowship of the Ring. I can't find the picture anywhere--that was years ago.

My second avatar (and still my favorite) was this:
Image
It's from the Warhammer CCG, and somebody edited it for me so that it was framed all artfully. I'd probably still be using it if I hadn't lost it when Asur.org crashed.

My last avatar was this:
Image

I started using it mostly because, like I said, I lost the previous one in the site crash. I chose it because I go to the Pennsylvania State University and, like the other 40,000 undergrads here, I am absolutely in love with the place.

I chose my current avatar because I felt like I needed a change, and also because I joined the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps this year. I'm pretty gung-ho about that as well. The symbol is a little bland though...too much white. I'd change it if I had any good ideas.

Nope. Not a clue.

As for my avatar, it's from a painting by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law, an artist I really like. It's a watercolour of Celeborn and Galadriel on a swan-ship in Lothlorien; the bit that you can see is just Celeborn. Since I came back to the site for Anarion's Tolkien RPG, a Tolkien elven picture seemed appropriate.

For one brief shining moment
That was known as Camelot."

Way back when I joined my first avatar was the leaping Eltharion from his short fluff bit in the 6th edition army book. Then I bounced around through several avatars, mostly of musicians. For awhile I was Paul McCartney as TRE was Lennon and two other people were Ringo and Harrison respectively. I used some photos of Bob Dylan for awhile too.

Then one day Voodoo, Tahl, and my self we're having one of our typical angry conversations on MSN. I don't really remember what we were arguing about, but it was one of our usual discussions so it was something meaningless. At one point I stepped away for a bit and Voodoo and Tahl decided it would be funny to give me a new avatar. When I got back Voodoo had put my current one on my profile and I haven't had a need to change it since. That had to be about 2 years ago, but I think it describes me quite well. :P

I had an old animated WCIII style Wolf Rider avatar back when WCIII avatars were cool and new, and since spending a lot of time on the site ment I was able to report a lot of bugs and so to Taaveti, I got a title as Wolf Rider at one point, with a huge title handout.

So when returning, since Eric thought someone was just joking, I figured a wolf rider was a good way of showing it was really me. And this fella caught my eye.

I'm pretty sure that one of your first ones was actually one of the 6th edition mage models. The one holding a staff and sword.

Anyway, most (all?) of my avatars have been dragons of some sort. The current one I found with Google one day when I was poking around for a new avatar. Ryo modified it a few months later into what it is now, and I've stuck with it since then.

I've had a couple - stared of with Aenarion. I think most new people get a High Elf avatar to start with :P

I went through a year of so with multiple avatars, before realising that people are generally recognised by avatars rather than names now, so I decided to get a permenant one.

Then my fixation with Shadow Warriors/Assassins kicked in and I found this beauty.

Had it for about 2 years now, and it's not changing any time soon...

I made my avatar myself. It is one of the runes from the book with a little water reflection effect added to it.
With the thunder of hooves and the turning of our steel-shod wheels, we are death upon the wind.

With bow in hand, ours is a vengeance rained down from afar, we are death upon the wind.

With tall spears held to our foe's throat, cold fury guiding our aim, we are death upon the wind.

This one was made by Ryo, though normally I make my own on photoshop. They are always monochrome blue, photo negatives of anime characters, usually the androgynous ones. Why I started doing that, I have no idea. I do like the way they look, however.

This particular one is of Rei Ayanami from Evangelion. I like the series, and can relate to this character more than the others.

Someone has pointed out that despite my intolerance for both guns and smoking, my avatar/sig combo always has one or the other or both. Currently, the individual in my sig is smoking.
