Sword Masters Question

#1 Post by Lady Phoenix »

So, my Sword masters of Hoeth carry a great sword.

This means that their strength of 3 becomes 5 but they always strike last.

The Champion has similar stats, as you know.

If I was to take the magic weapon, Sword Sword of Might (+1 strength) into battle, does my champion only get +1 strength, or does it effectively make it a great sword of might, thus adding +3 to his strength, but always striking last?

ASF (elves) + ASL (great wepons) = Initiative.
Taking a magic sword on champion gives him -1 Strength in order to strike at ASF and gain back his re-rolls.

What's most important to you?
I'd not bother with the magic weapon. :)

Brad

It replaces the GW so he is only +1 Str, swinging with ASF and magical attacks. See BRB pp.173 'I'm using this one'.

Edit: ninja'd.

I would never trade Swordmasters nor white lion great weapon for magic weapon, but the only reason why I might even consider is it if I knew that I was going to face ethereals.

I agree in most cases but as you say, it can be very useful in some situations. Especially if you don't have magic to kill ethereals. Just make sure you have a good reason to put extra points into a flimsy 1W model.

Eventhough this isn't exactly the topic I really never understood kitting drake master (Dragon Prince champion). Spellshield is somewhat neat to give extra protection against magical attacks, but other than that no.

True. But at least with Star Lance + Charmed Shield and a 2+/6++ he is more survivable and has similar stats to a mounted noble.

It's nice to be able to do damage after the first round. 29 points is a lot to pay for S3 attacks.
Ah, Floorhammer. A time honored tradition. Sadly, I no longer play since my brother tripped and right-angled the spears of a 15-man regiment.

Has it been decided whether the Champion is allowed to take the star lance or not?

This was alongside a Giant Blade Prince and a Star Lance BSB. He wasn't messing around!

No official FAQ on dragonlance...

But honestly guys, it literally says 'character' in the book. What more do you need? Well, enjoy it at friendlies and most tournaments anyways.
