wood elves

At the beginning of the game when the wood elves get a free shot at the opposing general does he get a lookout roll from it?thanks

Look out Sir is vs template attacks (pg 93, pg 99).

to answer OP:s question answer is no if he is inside unit. If he is next to the unit as lone character there is actually look out sir against BS shots, and that is 4+ for lone characters within 3 inch from friendly unit of same unit type and more than 5 R&F models. this can be found at page 97. This would actually be very interesting tactic against wood elves to deploy next to unit with high armor and ward save and try to lure shots against prince... (unless he brings way watchers) it could be really nice ;)

character on eagle, next to eagle unit! high armor save, T4 and ward... Never considered this but might work.

sorry for rambling again, but no it doesn't work. Great eagle noble is monsterous cavalry and eagle is beast. Darnation!

for BS yes
But Arrow of Kurnous is not a BS therefore would not get Look out sir

Hmm, pg97 says "a shooting attack of any kind". RAI I'd say the Arrow is a shooting attack but RAW, no. It happens before the first turn and simply says that if the target is within 36" of a model with Arrow, it takes the hit.

Characters need to be careful with the 4+ LoS because it doesn't work against magic missiles and stuff like Gateway.

Remember Pre FAQ when that 4+ LoS worked against Impact Hits? Madness.
