Combined profiles for ridden monsters

#1 Post by Nightwing »

Simply how does it work? How does the kit of the rider interact with the monster (and vice versa with regards to a scaly skin save)? Which values are used for which stats?

Take a star dragon prince for example, I understand it'll have 10 wounds and 10 attacks, but at what ws, str and initiative? And what about the ASF of the prince?

Apologies if this has already been covered.

Well simple answer is it doesn't. Combined profiles are not yet in the rules, they've only been for some of the end times characters and they've been given a single statline, there have been no guidelines on how to work it out.

However it's pretty safe to assume they will be in 9th edition, with I imagine a very different set of rulebook magic items (say goodbye to your 4+ ward saves :p).

Judging from how they've been done though, you pick the highest of each characteristic from rider and mount, with the exception of wounds and attacks where you add both together. They get the best armour save from both, e.g. a mage on a Dragon would get a 3+ armour save (the dragons scaly skin), but a prince with heavy armour and the enchanted shield on a Dragon would get a 2+ save. Weapon bonuses and special rules apply to all of the attacks, so for example a prince on a star Dragon with the star lance would get 10 strength 10, asf attacks on the charge. Also remember that thunderstomp is an attack with the always strikes last rule, so with asf cancelling it you get to thunderstomp at initiative, you also get to breath weapon at very high initiative too.

I'm pretty excited to try out caradrayan on ashtari in 9th, for a little over 400pts he's an absolute killing machine (8 asf s7 flaming attacks with d3 wounds), and with 7 t6 wounds with a 4+/4++ (that 4++ will be much harder to get on characters too) and mr1 plus frost aura he's a tank.

As Ielthan says, these are not yet in the rules. They seem highly likely for 9th though given that the End Times books (which contain combined profiles) are said to be compatible with the new edition.

For the moment though, ridden monsters still have 2 profiles.
