Armor save modifier
Can somebody clarify how armor save modifier works please
Re: Armor save modifier
The brb explains it very well, not sure what you need clarifying but it is affected by the attacking models strength as follows:
S4 -1 AS
S5 -2 AS
S6 -3 AS
S7 -4 AS
Etc...
If the attacking modal has the Armor piercing rule the opponent has -1 to their Armour save cumulative with strength modifier
S4 -1 AS
S5 -2 AS
S6 -3 AS
S7 -4 AS
Etc...
If the attacking modal has the Armor piercing rule the opponent has -1 to their Armour save cumulative with strength modifier

Re: Armor save modifier
Sackree has it pretty well covered here. I'll just add an example. Let's say you have a silver helm. He has a 2+ AS from heavy armour (5+), mount with boarding (+2) and and shield (+1). If he is hit with a strength 5 attack his armour save (AS) goes down to 4+ due to the modifier Sackree mentioned.

Re: Armor save modifier
I was confused about the minus, reread rule book. So the minus is actually a plus on they're armor. That's what I didn't understand

Glad we could help.
Re: Armor save modifier
The penalty actually applies to the die roll, similar to how the penalties for shooting work which is why it is presented as a negative number.
If a unit has a 4+ armour save and is hit by a strength 5 wound then the armor save die roll has a -2 modifier applied to it.
Like this: Die Roll - 2 = True Result
Example:
4-2 = 2
5-2 = 3
6-2 = 4 <--- The only 4+ result with the penalty requires a roll of 6.
Thus why most people simply adjust the armor save itself and just say they need a 6+. It makes it easier to sort through dice quickly for most folks.
