Earth blood and shadow magic attribute

#1 Post by Ether Dude »

Hi all,

Quick question that came up:

Loremaster is in a unit of archers. He casts earthblood so his unit gains 5++ regen. He then casts miasma and swaps places with a bsb in another archer unit. Which unit(s) get the 5++ regen save?

Both? His first? His second?

Thanks!

His first. The spell lands on the unit, it doesn`t follow the character.

The spell says "the wizard and his unit", so in your example I believe the first archer unit and the loremaster will gain regen, and after he swaps into the second unit they will both still have regen. The second archer unit will not gain anything by the loremaster swapping in though.

Both wrong actually. It was FAQ'ed:

Q: If a Wizard casts a spell that targets him then leaves the unit,
will the spell remain on both the Wizard and the unit? (p97)
A: No, once the Wizard has left the unit it will only target
him. If he subsequently joins another unit, or rejoins the unit
he has left, while the spell is still in play then they will benefit
from the spell

So the spell is cast on the wizard. And it affects the unit he is in.

Hmm... are there other spells with similar circumstances? I can only think of spells that target units right now.

Would this be the case for the High Magic Lore Attribute also?

Yes. It goes for any situation that is described by working on the caster and his unit.

It is different for spells that target a unit I think. A spell like mindrazor is cast on the unit. And so it stays on the unit.

I read all the magic lores and in case anyone else was curious there are three spells and our lore attribute that target the caster and also affect the unit. Every other augment specifies either the unit (and by extension any characters within the unit) or the caster as the target, these are the only ones that target both and could potentially follow the caster to a different unit.

- Earthblood (lore of life) targets the wizard and his unit;
- Cascading fire cloak (lore of fire) targets the wizard and his unit;
- Night shroud (lore of the little waagh!) targets the shaman and any unit he is with;
- Shield of saphery is a perk for the wizard and his unit.

Yes, the interesting one to me is fire cloak which is RiP. I keep trying to figure out some way of jumping around a fire mage with that turned on and toasting multiple units but I don't think I can make it work like I want.
