Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
They smash into each other and don't move further, its sad and the rule should allowed to go through - many house rule it that way as its just silly to block both units for 2 turns from winning a sammich combat.

Going back to bolt thrower's rear charge question...
Yes, they still get the rear bonus (obviously) but if there are no models left to take the place of their fallen comrades (because the only models left in the unit are busy fighting in the front) does the unit in the rear just move in further? What if that unit that has the rear charge also has an enemy unit in its flank? Does it become 2 seperate combats because the rear unit can't move forward as it is enganged to the side. Hope this makes sense, as I know its confusing....

Yes, you move in once it is determined that the fight will continue (ie, the enemy didn't break/crumble away)

Great Weapons always Strike last (from the Warhammer Rule Book).
HE always strike first. Page 43 of the Army Book under 'Speed of Asuryan' tells me this is regardless of weapon.
Please confirm that I can still strike first if one of my Nobles has a Great Weapon.
I also just learn't that only the HE themselves ASF, not the lions on the lion chariot. That's a lie I got away with last week and may belong in another thread.

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
You can indeed strike first with your great weapon noble. This is explained in the High Elf FAQ on the GW website. :3
Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Great Weapons have the rule 'Strikes last' not 'Always strikes last' which is different in game terms.
Thankfully all effects that give someone 'Always Strikes Last' also state they remove ASF so the rules are never in conflict.

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Two questions:
1. Impact Hits: Do the impact hits from chariots wipe out the front rank in combat preventing the enemy unit from attacking back?
2. How would you randomize against a unit with one rank n' file model and one character?
Thanks as always!

1) Yes
2) As shooting, so half the hits one on each, then randomise.

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
So if I did 6 hits on the unit that has one rank model and a character would they each take 3 hits since it can be divided evenly? Or do they each take one and then the others are distributed by rolling with an equal chance to hit either model?Prince_Asuryan wrote:1) Yes

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Sorry, poorly worded, and actually incorrect when I wrote it.
Divide the hits evenly on the characters and the rank and file. Any excess hits are then randomised. So, if you cause 6 hits, that's three on the character and three on the RnF. If you cause 5 hits, 2 on hero, 2 on RnF and randomise the final hit.

Perfect, thanks! My minor loss today may have been a draw had we done it that way.

In addition, is it correct to assume that if the impact hits wipe out the front rank, then the crew and lions/steeds would also have no attacks since the first row is now gone?

No, it doesn't matter which models you killed, so long as you started in base to base with the unit, you can make your attacks.
As far as I know, there are only two things that deserve the fear of humanity. Uncertainty, and certainty. The fear of what is certain, one can come to terms with, while the uncertain, one cannot. I seek knowledge because I am a coward.

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Probably going to see a black coach this week vs. vampire counts. My question is the black coach states that it sucks up power dice at the start of each magic phase. The banner of sorcery does not state when it is rolled. Which happens first?

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Before the Black Coach can do anything you have to generate power dice.
You generate 2 pool dice, banner of sorcery dice also go in the pool, then each wizard generates his own power dice.
So the banner goes first, then the Black Coach makes you roll all 3 to 5 pool dice and any dice of Wizards too close to it.

Something I'm a little confused about. Keep seeing lists popping up with people talking about giving spearmen banners. Doesn't say they can take banners in the army book, so whats this all about? Surely nobody sticks a BSB in with a bunch of spears when he could be mounted and on the charge with some DPs that can break pretty much anything.
Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
The core section has the 'First Among Equals' rule. One lucky core unit is allowed to have a magic standard. Spears are a popular recipient of the bonus.Drannath wrote:Something I'm a little confused about. Keep seeing lists popping up with people talking about giving spearmen banners. Bah, my local GW guys didn't tell me about that rule. Here I've been going "lah lah lah" and they could of had a banner all this time. Cheers kethnae.

Best thing about BSB's is re-rolls and that benefits infantry more than cavalry on the whole.Drannath wrote:Surely nobody sticks a BSB in with a bunch of spears

Ask your local GW guys where to find a copy of the High Elf Army Book (you might need to call it a "codex" to make them understand), and buy it. But do it quickly as the prices will be going up pretty soon...Drannath wrote:Bah, my local GW guys didn't tell me about that rule. Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Is there a rule somewhere about how closely you can deploy your units together? No closer than 1 inch?

1" rule exists only for keeping enemy models at a distance when not involved in close combat.

Ran into this the other day, does being immune to psych/unbreakable mean you're no longer stupid? For example if a Dark Elf hero has the item that makes him and his unit Immune to Psych and he joins a unit of Cold one Knights are they now immune to stupidity? Same thing, if the hero has that 125 point unbreakable banner, are they now immune to their stupidity?

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Being immune to psychology doesn't give you immunity to stupidity. Only to fear, terror and panic.

Alright that was what I thought and the way we played it, but being a HE with no stupid units I wasn't sure when my friend had asked me.

Whenever a Dark Elf player asks me if a unit that is ItP is immune to stupidity, I ask them why they haven't already asked the same question about hatred
Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
Weird wording in the rulebook I'd like to clear up: sorry if this had been asked already, I couldn't find it anywhere.
In a game I played yesterday a unit of skavenslaves were "broken" in combat, meaning my frenzied Plague Monks could now see the phoenix guard they'd been fighting. The way we played it then was that because the Phoenix Guard were in ten inches and line of sight, the plague monks had to attempt the charge. Problem was because of the maneuvring they had to undertake to get past the impassable terrain nearby they were not in range of the charge, even though they were within ten inches as the crow flies. We decided the charge was failed and the went five.
Now, I looked this up later and found that rules say frenzied units must charge if within "charge reach." Does this imply that if the unit cannot be charged then the frenzied charge is never declared? Or does charge reach just mean their doubled movement rate?

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
It means precisely that. If a frenzied unit cannot physically charge far enough get into combat with a target unit then frenzy doesn't take effect. Apparently frenzied units are just smart enough to know when they can't reach their opponent and crazy enough to go screaming off to the slaughter when they can reach.Dannaron wrote:Now, I looked this up later and found that rules say frenzied units must charge if within "charge reach." Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!
1. My mage miscasts and the result allows my opponent to cast one of his spells. Can I dispel it with a scroll or can I only dispel with power dice? Is there a BRB reference?
2. My unit charges. The opponent flees. His flee move takes him through his own unit and to the other side of it. My unit would hit this secondary unit (even at a failed charge distance). Do I stop 1 inch away or does it count as a charge on the second unit?
3. My dragon wishes to charge a unit that is behind another enemy unit. There is no room for the dragon to be between the two units. Does that mean the charge cannot happen?
Thanks!
