What would you like to see a tactics article about?
I`m considering to write a tactics article, but haven`t decided what just yet. To help me choose, please leave a reply with what you`d like to see an article about

Expanding on the concept of push and its corollary in terms of robust list design (at least within the meta you operate in).

Re: What would you like to see a tactics article about?
Good question! Something universal that would survive any meta would be my suggestion. For instance, since RBTs have becoming increasingly popular in strong lists with numbers typically in 3 or 4, a tactics on their proper usage would be supremely useful to the community at large. I have some theories myself, but nowhere near the real life experience to base them on..
Topics could cover -
1) RBT deployment in terms of your list build and terrain on the board - sounds simple, but how your list is built might change where you deploy your RBT, either central to your line, flank or refused flank.
2) Deploying RBTs as a secondary threat to attract opponent attention away from your main battle line (list dependent of course).
3) Although I think it's well known, shot selection, volley vs single. When, at what distance and against whom. Good shot selection greatly enhances RBTs.
4) Prioritizing targets based on opponents - difficult I know, generalizations would be required, but generalizations would give a great baseline. Facing a list with Monstrous Cav - single shot early on. Lots of chaff and low armor - volley shot clearing chaff ASAP. etc.
Anyways. Just an example. But a topic universal, ignoring meta, would be most helpful I would think.

Re: What would you like to see a tactics article about?
Playing without WL, PG and cavbus isn`t something I`ve ever done I think. Some food for thought for potential approaches (assuming 2400 points):
- Star Dragon + 2 Frosthearts + M6 Spearmen with 2 nobles and 2 mages. Fill with Eagles and Reavers
- Star Dragon + mass shooting and 2x L2 Shadow (basically a bowline with the SD as a counter-charger)
- SM deathstar with anointed and L4 High Archmage
I don`t think it`s worthy of an article though, especially not from one who has no experience with it what so ever.
With that said, I appreciate the suggestions so far We have:
- How to create and play pushing lists (i.e. lists that are designed to run across the table and score big points)
- RBTs and You
- Mastering the Might of Monsters
Keep them coming

I added a poll and will continue adding options as you suggest them in this thread. When a clear leader appears (no earlier than a couple of days at least) I`ll get to work

I can do that - alternatively you can make your own poll with stuff you`d like to write about I`ll get through these eventually.

Re: What would you like to see a tactics article about?
Giev RBT-Tactics pls
Honestly. I am really dissappointed with my RBTs lately and often sacrifice them for great eagles and frostphönix. Many games, i simply cant get their points back and have to babysit them, too.

Re: What would you like to see a tactics article about?
The concept of "earning points back" is flawed. RBTs in particular rarely make their points back but they aren`t supposed to either: their role is to dictate where an enemy moves and how he can approach the board.

Re: What would you like to see a tactics article about?
So you see them more of a weapon of psychological warfare? Ok, i can get that. But why take 3 or 4 of them then? Would 2 not suffice? Or just to increase the threat?

Re: What would you like to see a tactics article about?
It depends entirely on your army how they are used, but in more games than not the main role of my RBTs is to keep enemy hard hitters at bay. Let`s take a look at my last 6 games: Vs Empire this week I deployed them to cover my refused flank. This meant my opponent had to dedicate significant resources to taking them down or have the RBTs pound his Stank and Demis for 6 turns. He let them be and they helped killing the Stank and single-handedly gained half points from Demis. Vs DoC they didn`t do a whole lot but kept his flies occupied (I nearly got points from them as well). Vs Dark Elves they removed chaff and gave me board control, keeping his flyers behind hills meanwhile. Vs Dwarfs they took pot-shots at gyros, eventually doing nothing, but if I had killed the Gyros it would`ve been a great advantage to the rest of my forces. Vs OnG I took out some vital counter-chargers such as pump wagons and chariots. Vs VC I kept the Terrorgheist at bay but a mistake by my infantry positioning rendered them vulnerable to Hexwraiths, which indeed engaged them and left the TG free to roam, ensuring my demise in a game where I had a huge advantage. Had I kept the RBTs safe here, the TG would be forced to take a big risk or simply stay behind cover.
Anyway, regardless of RBT never think about "getting points back". I pay 270 points ish for a cavprince but I expect him to do a whole lot more. I pay points for Reavers to buy me time, I almost never expect my Eagles to get any points and never in my life do I believe a scrollcaddy can get anywhere close to 100 points, luck aside. You create an army so you can take points, not so you can trade them. Viewing them as tools for this is essential. If your rbts help you force your opponent to play your game, so what if they don`t kill anything? In more games than I can count, the most valuable kills from my RBTs have been stuff like fast cav, Eagles or similar chaff units.

Re: What would you like to see a tactics article about?
Casazzo - do that and you`ll have an easier time evaluating your units Try and set goals for each unit every match and see how well they accomplish them. Try not to make the goals too closely related to points
@spearman - you`re certainly not alone! Seems to be the most popular topic here.
