New to High Elves!!!

#1 Post by Abhorash. »

Hey there guys! i just recently became a general of the high elves, and i am liking them a lot! i was just wondering if you guys have any tactics/suggestion/basic magics/units to use against Warriors of Chaos. My friend plays them and hes pretty good, i usually play vampires (*hence my name) and i do really well with them, but high elves are very different, and im very excited to use them!

Thanks guys.

Form minimum components I would say:
- Lore of Metal on Archmage with Seerstaff (Spell 6 all the way) or Teclis if Special Characters are allowed;
- Banner of Sorcery;
- 2 Great Eagles for march blocking;
- Sword Masters (14+ models) with standard bearer, champion, Standard of Balance, & Talisman of Loec;
- Dragon Princes (5 or 6 models) with standard bearer, Banner of Ellyrion;
- BSB with Banner of World Dragon (just because of the Gateway spell); and
- no less than 2 RBTs.

For your Core, take two units of Archers (10 models each).

Thank you a lot, by the way the game will be 2500 points. and im not really sure how to march block? with the great eagles, like charge a unit of knights or what? i don't quite get the concept of it, because with vamps you don't really do it that much.
also, against chaos should i go Very magic heavy, combat heavy or a mix of the two?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks a lot.

Just land the eagle within 8" of the unit you want to slow down and hey presto it can't march! With practice you should be able to keep those blocks of Warriors etc. to a 4" crawl almost every turn, you may not have to fight them at all. It helps that WoC have virtually no shooting to remove the eagle.

Ok that makes sense, but than cant that unit charge my great eagle? than my eagle dies in combat. Or is there something im missing?

OHHHHH, you put the eagle outside of the units line of sight!!! that took me a while to figure out... lol

well a unit only has 90 degress of LoS so you have 270 degree of not being seen......
unless there's another unit behind said unit that is watching it's ass therefore you need to place the eagle in another place. As long as you're 8" within a unit you're march blocking it.

You can also use the eagle as bait, so to speak. If you angle the frontage of the eagle just right within line of sight but to the side a bit, it can force your opponent to either go around it or decide to charge it in which case you flee causing a failed charge and now their battle line is wacky as they had to charge more diagonally towards you.
Battle Standard Bearer. Don't leave home without it.

Careful of a mage/hero on a disk with Bloodcurdling roar. Nasty item for not many points. It will take an eagle out quick, along with other units. Usually my first priority when facing chaos.

Fair point but I'd consider an Eagle an acceptable loss here.
