So, I am relatively new to register here, but I have been lurking for some time. I wanted to post a question regarding the Vortex shard, because I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere.

My question is about a situation as follows:

I am playing against a Dark Elf player and his magic phase starts. I elect to use the Vortex Shard and his magic phase immediately ends. Does this, or does this not occur before he has generated his Power Dice? In other words, can I or can I not use the Vortex Shard to inflict Strength 4 hits on all his Sorceress equal to the number of Power Dice they are unable to use?

Any clarification would be appreciated.

You're thinking of the Cube of Darkness.

The Vortex Shard has to be declared at the start of the Magic Phase.

No. IIRC, dark elf players could only gain the dice that cause wounds if they don't use dice cast by their 4+ spell that generates more dice. As Musashi pointed out, they aren't able to cast any spells since the Shard is at the start at of the magic phase.

I think your mistaken. Dark Elf only get Str 4 hits on their casters when they have UNUSED Power Dice from the Power of Darkness spell.
