Tyrion vs. Star Dragon in WPS Comp System?

I am about to be in a tourney with the WPS Comp System, and in my current list I have a Star Dragon. However, bringing a Star Dragon greatly affects my comp score with a whopping -1200 points! I can however pull this off, but my comp score would be low, at 2100 points. I would rather have 3000-4000 points, but maybe the Star Dragon is worth it. I am considering replacing the Prince on Dragon with Tyrion (who does not affect my comp score), but I'm wondering if the down grade of lords is worth the extra comp. What do you guys think?

Tyrion is a wee bit expensive, but if there are no restrictions on special characters, how does Teclis fare?

Teclis himself is not penalized, however the comp system is very tight on the magic. I did the math, and if I brought Teclis alone and no other magic users, then he would only be -250 points, however, since I already have two mages in my list, the penalty of bringing him would be a whopping -2800 points!! (because the magic penalties are based on power and dispel dice factoring other magic items as a certain amount of power or dispel dice, and the comp taken off for each increases practically exponentially). If I dropped one of my mages and made the other a scroll caddy while adding Teclis, it would still be a -1400 points just for Teclis.

Sounds like a Teclis build would be best medium magic, though how does the BoS factor in the penalties?

Since there doesn't seem to be a hard limit on actual PD, Annulian Crystal seems a little risky.

Anyway, Tyrion works best if you need to neutralize one unit of your opponent, and then can proceed to sweep into his remaining forces. In that sense, he's a reactionary choice, whereas a Star Dragon is a pro-active one. Doesn't mean he can't kick butt if you let him bring along his friends for support; he takes out the big guy and the rest ensure the combat stacks up on CR.

Is there anything that uses WPS that doesn't ban special characters outright? What tournament and what in hell were they thinking?

Our tournament does not ban them, but if you take one then your opponent will get an extra +1 if they win of draw against you.
