Dwarf special characters

#1 Post by orka »

I have heard of Thorek Ironbrow and his Anvil for quite some times, but does anyone know about High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer and Josef Bugman, as all I know of them are their rules and cost? Are they being used?

We can't give out rules, but I know that Thorgrim and Bugman are not regarded as the best characters out there.

They are not really used that often. The Dorfking is like a 800 points beast, but never sees interesting combat due to speed. He is as difficult to kill as a steam tank. Saw him once, but he really is nothing to worry about.

The ranger isnt that big of importance. He is like a mediocre dwarf thane with healing abilities. Never seen him.

You don't actually want to get into combat with him, and flanking him usually involves eliminating at least a major unit on either side.

Bugman is one of those characters much spoken of, but seldom sighted.

Thorgrim is often used as a paint and wacht model on the self.

thorek is so popular here I have pendant of vengeance in my all comers list.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.

And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

Aye, there's the normal Runelord. He normally has an extra artillery piece compared to Thorek :P

Oh yeh, there are sometimes some normal runesmiths too, and there are about 2 engingeers in the entire dwarf kingdom. and a couple of slayers.

my buddy brings engineers all the time. The master is a pretty sweet character overall IMO. nothing like an entrenched organ gun.

the best dwarf player I ever met used a regular anvil, master engineer, and a bsb. great setup really. master engineers dont get enough love, they're actually very good.

Yeah at a tournament last month my friend starting putting his master with the cannon crew for the d6 wounds, a highlight of the massacre he scored against lizardmen was giving a carnasaur the one-hitter-quitter. Also, if you have like a battery of war machines close together then he can bounce from crew to crew if need be and be very situational, one turn you may need a big monster killed with the cannon, then you might want to do some bolt thrower sniping etc etc.

Another dwarf army in the same tournament featured double organ guns and double ironbreaker units, both led by a thane with oath stone. I say good luck to anyone wanting to take those units on. I did pretty good though, only suffered a minor defeat against him lol. Neither of these armies had Thorek btw and the double ironbreakers one took top spot in the tournament.

When i got beaten by a double organ list the dwarf opponent was kind enough to admit he used a cheese list.

This is why comped tournies usually come down pretty hard on double Rares.

I dunno, I didn't find it too crazy. I had both magic bows, rbts, 2 eagles and shadow warriors so I was able to put a pretty impressive amount of pressure on his guns. If I had it all to do over again I might have been able to do better, there's no point flank charging ironbreakers when they have an oath stone, I should have just doubled up on his frontage to minimize the amount of beardoes he had to fight back with, might have been able to fight them more effectively then.

Aye. A shame really, considering just how nicely he's on the 'special but not über' side of special characters. Could do nice with themed games and Gobbo-hunting. ^^ Besides, he has a tankard never running dry of beer. You could host a Warhammer drinking game!
