Did anyone try using Reavers against Bretonnia?

#1 Post by Sinsigel »

I was thinking of going infantry heavy army with two blocks of special infantry(PG, WL), but suddenly wanted to put some reavers.

Noble(Great Weapon, Armour of Caledor, Guardian Phoenix)

10 Archers

15 White Lions(Standard Bearer)
5 Ellyrian Reavers(Swap spears for bows)
6 Dragon Princes of Caledor(Standard Bearer with Banner of Ellyrion)

Repeater Bolt Thrower
Repeater Bolt Thrower

1000pts

Basically, this is how I'm trying to deploy.(Pardon my poor reconstruction)

================[KotR] [KotR] [KE] [Peggies]

========(Wood)

========================================(Wood)

============[DPs] [Reavers] [WLs] [Archers]
=============================[2 RBT on hill]

Plan sounds simple. March the reavers within 8'' range from Bretts, flee, counter charge with DPs or WLs, depending on which side of the KotR charges.

But the conditions are optimum and doesn't reflect the fact that the bretts might deploy differently. Also, I have no experience using reavers before(lack of proficiency), and they have knights on winged horsy. Can anyone give some advice on this one? Infantry bunker seemed too static to me.

i have a friend that play bret so i play him quite often. bret will most likely let u go first cuz they'll pray so keep that in mind when deploying. praying allows them 6+ ward save of str 4 under and a 5+ wave save of str 5 and up.

anyway PK are damn good imo. 55 points for 1 model. peg r powerful they have like 2 atk at str 5 if i remember correctly and they r flying skirmish unit. PK themselves are str 4 and tough 4? or 3. and the each of them has 2 wounds each.

if i take ur deploy i would actually deploy the WLs on the right of the archers so they can move into the woods n angle is 45 degree to the centre. i would put 1 RBT on the hill and put another RBT "below" the left wood. that way it'll take 'em a couple of turns to kill the RBT. deploy ur DPs to the left of the archers. and put the reavers on the left of the DPs.

i guess RBT multi shot 1 KotR and try to make them panic. just keep shooting at it. ur archers don't really have a target so i guess shoot whatever the RBTs r shooting at.

with ur reaver i guess u would redirect charges as their bows prolly won't kill any knights unless he gets unlucky with his dice roll.

ohh n it'll be a charge of between ur knights and his knights unless he charges ur DPs with ur peg knights. ur WL should be able to chop 'em up pretty good assuming u hold the first round of combat.

Lord Anathir posted a Batrep where he used Reavers against Bretts to effect.

I remember him maneouvring a unit next to the flank of a Lance so it could barely move.

Yes, the infamous and much hated "thou shalt move forward" move, where you block the sides of a lance, making it move directly forward until it clears your unit.

think it was against a warriors of chaos chariot. bretts have their bowmen and pegs to take out fast cav.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.

And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

I remember the stymied Lance quite clearly! :)

Though I'm sure you're right about the counters.

if the brets take multiple lances in the same area, you can quite often block the lot of them in that manner.

Shocked to see that Glade Riders are 24pts each!

I know they have special abilities but that ain't cheap.

From experience, I know that if I had Core cavalry, I'd select them in preference to infantry.

Being a bretonnian, I really shouldn't be advising you (enemies!! :twisted: ) but i'll just point out a couple things.

Firstly, unless the enemy general is quite unexperienced, he won't take only 4 units in a 1000 point game, 2 of them being Kotr lances (of course I am not an All cav Bretonnian player, so I might be wrong).
One would usually take one large lance (8-9), cut the others and go for 6 knights on the rest giving us points for a unit of archers or man@arms.
That being said, you will probably still outnumber them if you take enough infantry, and really the best way of defeating us Bretonnians is the simplest and most mentioned one, don't let our knights get the charge and the day is won (for Bretonnia's enemies!! :? )

cheers
