Great to see the vintage models. Very nice work on them.

And y'know, this is the first decent look I've had at those Gamezone elves. They fit in well, I think.

I have mixed feelings about the Gamezone miniatures I own - all of them bought as one lot on eBay.
All of them are very nicely sculpted, but they have a slightly different feel to the official GW counterparts.
The detail is very good, but I found not easy to paint. Maybe I am not good enough, but I was a bit disappointed with the final quality of the paint job I produced for these spearmen, as well as the winged cavalry standard I posted earlier in this thread.
Mind you the rest of the GW spearmen are nothing to write home either, but in that case the miniatures were so unexciting that it was almost an expected outcome.

And now an interlude away from Ulthuan before my next project - the mounted Prince.
Yesterday I have finished two Orc shamans, which leaves one to go.

The mounted model is so-so, but I don't expect to use it that much in 8th edition, so not a big deal.

While my prince conversion is ongoing (WIP images later) I thought I might post some other DYI work for my O&G army.
First some snotling chariots. All hand made except the snotling models and some decoration bits.

After making them I decided I could use my points in better ways so I have used them only once or twice.

Cheers.
Here's some more hand made stuff, peppered abundantly with GW plastic bits.
Pity giants are no longer competitive in 8th edition games, I liked using them and I love these models.

I call this one the Kingslayer because of all the King Alrik's shields that adorn him (these are off casts for a King Alrik kit I bought, which was missing the shield. I made them in milliput from a wax cast)

All the pics are great MasterOfNone especially these! I just assumed they were the original GW model but I think yours are even better.

Monsters with no saves don't tend to last long.

It's a great piece, I used it on some Monstrous Infantry once.

A few days ago I started working on my mounted prince project, since I felt I did not have an appropriate miniature for this role.

I wanted the prince to have an imposing weapon that is not an lance, so I bought a damaged resin version of Tyrion, with a broken sword and missing wings on the helm.
The dead dark elf decoration is also missing, which is not a problem because I want to put him on a regular 25x50 base.
I replaced the arm with the right arm of the mounted Anointed, after modifications to the halberd.
The tip was trimmed to make the head an ornate axe head, and the shaft was shortened to become like that of a great axe.

Here is the result, primed:

In my experience this kind of restrained conversion is often the best. With this moderate change you've made the model your own MON, he looks great.

:)

Agreed with Spellarcher, it's a great bit of personalisation.

Thank you both.
I agree this is a rather moderate conversion but this is nearly all I wanted from this model. I'll only add perhaps a shield and will probably do some basing with milliput to make the whole thing stand out a little more.
Work on the prince is continuing, with some distraction from other things progressing in parallel (two doom diver throwers - finished, the war boss for the wyvern and an arachnarok).
I have taken some pictures yesterday and today and at some point I will to post them.

I like the colours MasterOfNone. Interested to see what the final balance of these will be.

Thanks.
I need a second opinion, maybe you can provide it.
I am considering adding a strip of white at the bottom of each of the blue and red cloth parts.
It could be a thin strip in both cases, or perhaps something thicker and more elaborate in the blue part. Ideally some embroidery work with some tengwar (Noldor) runes, but I am not sure my freehand is good enough for that.
What do you think?

I tend to paint the edges of a model in darker colours if I can. I've found this tends to 'frame' it, whereas light colours can get a bit lost I feel. The runes might change this dynamic I guess.

Thanks for the input.
I stuck with white because I think it gives a better tonal contrast than black.
Thin strips were challenging enough, I had to acknowledge my technical limits when it comes to thin freehand drawings, so there are no runes.
I have made quite a bit of progress in the last 24 hours, now I am getting close to the end.

Looks great so far! I really like that blue and red on the horse barding. It's a very neat little conversion and that paint job really does it justice.

My prince is now ready. the last thing to decide is whether to give him a big shield (the big dragon shield from the mounted general plastic kit).
I could have continued painting detail forever, but my patience and eyes can only so much.
I am stunned by how much my eyes are letting me down, when it comes to fine detain I am basically making educated guesses at where the brush is landing. When I see the result magnified in a photo I am often shocked by how randomly the details are coloured. Nevertheless, I am quite pleased with my mounted prince :)

He's just great MON, excellent use of gold, the horse's crest especially nice.

Thank you both, I have now moved on to the army BSB.
This will be a more complex conversion based on the anointed riding the phoenix.
I'll post a few wip pictures in the coming days.

So let's start with the parts.
1: The torso of the anointed, the halberd (with the blade part cut off), the standard of the plastic phoenix guard and the cloak.
The cloak is a green stuff cast, I needed to make it fall behind instead of sideways. The phoenix epaulette has been cut off the part and put on the torso where it belongs. The plastic original was too hard for this operation.
Image

2: The steed is a unicorn of which I bought a batch of 5 cheaply on eBay. Don't know where this model comes from, any suggestion is welcome.
I have stuck a milliput cast of the anointed's legs - these were my first attempt using blue stuff moulds. The horse is a bit too wide for these legs and I had to build extra bum/hip thickness.

The next part of the work was sticking things together and make the barding and bridles out of green stuff.

The cloak has not been glued yet because it would get in the way of painting, I will do it later.

Very dynamic MON and let's face it, you can't really go wrong with a phoenix banner top over a phoenix banner!

I guess you could say the phoenix banner is over the top, both literally and figuratively.

He looks lovely. The Milliput cast turned out great. And I like his pose. He's turning into a great BSB. Can't wait to see him painted.

Thanks for the encouragement.
The BSB is coming along well, it is mostly painted and I am now labouring over the details.
I am hoping to be able to post something tomorrow, although perhaps it still won't be the finished product.
