Daliskhan's highborn road to Valhalla

#1 Post by daliskhan »

Hey hey!
I have been reading this forum for ages, but this is the first ever post i think =)

I was introduced to T9A this summer after a long break from warhammer. Also since all my citadel paint had dried up (no surprise here) i thought it was time to invest in some new paints and an airbrush.

I allready started an blog at t9a forum, but since my greatest passion in wargaming is high elves, I thought i should share my progress here aswell.

Image
Im going for a green/blue/purple color scheme and red as a contrast. This was the first testmodel. I like where im going with this but need to do some adjustments, gonna do the armour less vivid, and switch to a more scarlet red. also make the plumes teal/turquoise instead of purple.

Image
maybe more like this.

Image
Neven been able to do anything with a griffon mount, so the griffins will be count as eagles.

Image

will post some more laters.
over and out!

Looking good. Both the swordmaster and the armour on the reaver. Did you completely paint the SM by airbrush or just the main pieces? The improvements you suggest for the paint scheme sound good. A bit less bright, hard colors. I'm looking forward to the results.

Did you magnitise the wings of the griffon? I like that model in general. It's a good griffon model (though perhaps with less character then the original Eltharion model) and it has lots of conversion possibilities. I've seen it used as eagles, phoenixes etc.

Thank you for the reply!

I just basecoat with white, and then I do some parts of the armour with the airbrush. On the swordmaster i just did one layer of bright metal. But on the reaver, I added some shadows with vallejo dark sea blue and one highlight of the metal before inking it, all with the airbrush. Also did the gradient on the swordmaster sword with the airbrush.

The griffon wings are not magnetized. I thought about it, but i didnt like the space between the wing and the body so i will fill it up with plastic putty. Im no fan of the transparent flying bases that GW provide, so im thinking of doing some magnetizing shenanigans on a more dynamic base. Would be nice transporting the stuff once it is done. Not sure how yet.

Nice job! Need to try the trick with the tape to get straight lines :)

I've heard Griffons are better in T9A, no?

@RE.Lee Thanks for the reply! They might be, but the lack of armour save makes em quite vulnerable. Love griffons so will field a character on one anyways tough. But will build it on the Karl Franz griffin instead i think.

Now for some updates. I dont really like the gw dragon models (except the wood elf dragon, and thats gonna be my ancient dragon) So im buidling my own for the dragon mage.

Im basing it on he the fell beast for Lotr.

I want something more muscular than the usual gw snake dragons.

Isn't that dealt with by 9th Age classing Griffon Riders as Monstrous Cav?

Very, very promising. Great pics.

Thanks mate!
Ye you might be right about that. Probably me who dont really know how to use it properly. Just feels like a dragon mage, och a prince on a dragon is a better choice.

Now for a small update.

Mr dragon has gotten one leg attached, and also been working some more on the tougher skin on his back.

The dragon is shaping up nicely. Great use of existing bits combined with greenstuff.

I can imagine you work on reposing the griffon. With the IoB set, there are loads of them around, all in exactly the same pose. So, reposing is a good call :)

Thx for your encouraging words guys!

Here is the latest update. Really sry for the quality of the pics, a lamp broke so the lightning situation is even worse than before =)

Image
Tried to sculpt the scales one by one by hand, but didnt turn out as i wanted. I will be using the a dragon prince torso, and their scales are of another shape than scales on the models from the island of blood kit. So i casted the armour in greenstuff, and it turned out ok. Will have to do some adjustments as soon the glue dries.

Image
And on mr big guys Im trying to decide on the final pose, then i will glue him together and start making all the greenstuff details.

Image
The skinn of the dragon is slow but steadily getting done.
Image
Worst stage of every model. The base layers.... Soon done and can start the shading and highlightning.

Thats all for now. Keep it real, wu-tang

Dragon looks awesome! I didn't see your update from 11th Oct until now....
The pose is unique and I like how you built it with various bits. Green stuff work is really great, especially the scales on the back and front clutches.

Elyrian reaver already looks good, can't wait to see him fully painted.

Keep up the good work! ;)
