Exactly, they should be shadowy and blur, but I did highlights on some parts recently, like leather straps, belts, quivers.... helmets have NMM highlights and so.
I'm also thinking on some edge highlighting too.
Hopefully I will have some new pics soon ;)

Looking forward to it. :)

My 2016 project (first and biggest one at least) is finally done. Dragon mage has been painted.

Great stuff Rod!

:)

I especially like the base, the brighter colours and the wing membranes.

Thanks! The wings did get a lot of attention during the project. They're such a defining feature of the model I think that paying attention to them is worth the effort.

As for the colours, I had a bit of help... I asked Aicanor for some input on colours for the rider. I must say I really enjoyed painting the greens. Very different from my normal colours. A bit easier to shade / highlight the red.

THE project!
Very well executed. Glad you finish that one, it is for sure capital one for the army.
Now, since it has been completed, we would like to know what is next? :)
There are still time in this year to make some things done ;)

Great looking beasts! What models are those? It must have been some old GW?
Purple color has to do with Slannesh themed army?
They abandoned their great master Khorne? :)

It's the special Chaos Hound called Red Maw, who used to come with the Beastman Special Character Khazrak the One-eye.

No, it has to do with my phone camera! The colour is GW's Khorne Red!

Next up is the secret santa project. Which is slowly starting to form ideas in my head. But not quite finished. Besides that I'm not sure what I'll do. A few options. I might put together and paint the 3 RBT I have lying around. I could go for a mage (I can use a few extra of those). Or I might go on an assembly spree and first put together all the models I have and only then start painting again. Any 'requests'?

Well known problem. I sometimes feel my painting skills would look a lot better if I simply took better pictures to post here...

From what I've seen on your list, I would vote for:
- Eltharion on Stormwing (nice to have it in collection)
- Anointed on foot (didn't see this model too frequent in other collections)
- Mounted BSB (must have :) )

Eltharion is a good idea. It's a great model (in a very outdated, vintage sort of way that is). And I don't have a fully painted griffon yet. So that speaks for him. Hm, want to start on him now... First my SS project though. Ideas are forming about that as well. I just hope it's not turning into too crazy an idea. Otherwise, enough backup ideas of course. ;) We'll see how it goes.

I'm sorry I missed to join in since I saw it when it was already too late, but hopefully I will do that next year.

Shadow Warriors completed 99%....there is always remaining 1% you can do more with the model :)

I will do unit with new SW models as well, probably next year.

I've skipped hobby activity tonight, but tomorrow I'll most probably start with Flamesphere Phoenix and Anointed.

My next painting challenge:

Tonight I took bits off the sprue and clean the mould lines:

I hope it won't took too much to complete this one.

In my experience, once you've cleaned off the mould lines you've done the biggest part. Assembling him was pretty easy. At least in mine it all fit together nicely. And at least the flamespire is pretty easy to paint. Not a lot of finicky, weird details to figure out. Especially if you have an airbrush you can get most of the painting done in a single session. But even with a brush it should be relatively fast.

The anointed I have no idea. Mine is only assembled, but not painted yet...

I can only echo SpellArchers words. That's great painting. The robe is great and the pose is very dynamic. Do you have more models / pictures you could share? I would love to see them.

Welcome to this great place, hope to see you more frequent on this shores! ;)
Back in the days, I was roaming on Ulthuan for 3 years unitl I made an account and post something

Good job for the start, model looks nice and have good combination of colors. I guess white robe emphases red details and hair.
What I would try to work additionally is the shading for the plate armor and helmet, rest is really nice.

Post some more pictures, it would be nice to see it.

Actually, I haven't had much problems with mould lines...they almost weren't existed. I really have to give credit to GW on the model quality in terms of casting and design.

I've managed to paint phoenix in app 60 minutes with an airbrush.
Currently doing Anointed, it will take me two-three more days to complete...only cause I'm painting very lately, so have very limited time frame for activities..

C'mon...I wouldn't do that to my fellow Ulthuaners

Honestly, airbrush is a bit of cheating for the painting since it allows you to make great effect in a short period of time without need of having extraordinary skill.
Once you put base color on the model, you start to apply layers of other colors with really nice transitions in between. You just need to clean the AB paint pot and to add other colors..... It takes most of the time :D

So, this wasn't required app 60 minutes because I'm uber painter, but simply the model as such and AB allows that :P

I'm currently stuck with anointed much more then I was with phoenix :D

The phoenix is ideally suited for an airbrush. Lot's of flat surfaces that are just asking for a nice, smooth transition of colors. And not a lot of details besides. You created a very stunning phoenix, using the airbrush to maximum effect.

I can imagine that opposed to this the annoited takes a lot more time. Many more details, lots of tiny, fiddly bits.

Looking forward to any pictures.

What you think would be the minimun budget for an airbrush starter set? I wouldnt mind playing a little bit.

By the way, I opened a Painting Blog with a first post:

I guess it is better to post there rather in here.

To start with an AB, you would need:
- Air compressor: I recommend you take basic one, but with air tank (doesn't have to work all the time, just to adjust pressure in the tank), pressure regulator, air filter and some security features. I have Airbrush Compressor AS-186 and it costed me app 100 Euros, but it is good investment, you don't need anything more than that.
- Airbrush gun: for the beginning you should take some cheap one, until you master it out and improve air brushing . Pay attention on cleaning and maintenance, otherwise you may not use it for long. I would recommend you took gravity feed gun, with dual-action trigger. Nozzle size 0.3mm as optimum, later on it can be adjusted to 0.2mm for smaller details or >0.3mm for priming and base coating.
- Colors, thinners, cleaning, accessories: I use Vallejo air range products (colors, thinners) and I'm very pleased with it. For the cleaning you can go just with warm water and AB gun brushes....you don't need chemistry on that, just clean it during the work if you need to take a brake....eg. when you finish with one color, spray or throw out all paint from the cup out add some warm water and spray it further until AB gun will be clean....that would be enough to keep it operational. Airbrush Cleaning Station is handy one http://www.alexandar-cosmetics.com/en/p ... ccessories since it has AB handler and cleaning pot.

If you are low on budget, you don't have to buy air colors, but you can use regular one, just you need to thin them properly with Air Thinner (maybe distilled water will work as well, but never try that).

Those are some tips, hope it will be useful. You have a lot of guides on the web, just google it or feel free at ask further for any particular thing.
