Turquoise Hawks Plog, Elven Prince on Dragon

#1 Post by PeNo »

Greeting brethren!
Here is my High elf host The Turquoise Hawks.
The models in the army range from 3rd edition models to 8th. This army have been passed along/sold among friends in the local area for about 20-15 years. I got my hands on it a couple of years back and when the high elves book came out I decided I would start it up. Some of the newer HE models, archers and spearelves prominently, will replace the old ones simply cause they're so much prettier. But there's still some really nice oldies in there that I will strip and remodel. I've got about 6-7k points worth of HE's, and the only models that are painted are on this page, so i have a loooong road ahead of me.

The finished models will get posted in the thread and also updated to the first post. Enjoy.

The Prince (The lord is from the Island of blood griffon. And the horse is a slightly converted HE Horse.)
Image Image

The Archmage (The old Everqueen model in metal. The wave is made entirely from Green stuff and the spell she's casting is made from a Dragon prince musican horn.
Image

BSB on foot
ImageImageImage

Battle Standard Bearer on Griffon (I really like the Eltharion model and had to do a BSB of him. Will be fun to play with even though he will perish in horrible ways most games.)
Image Image

Handmaiden of the Everqueen
ImageImage

Bolt Throwers (The crew needs to have a sip of wine every now and then, its good for accuracy, ask any dwarf and he'll tell you.)
Image Image

Spearelves
Image

Archers (Mage bunker)
Image

Shadow Warriors
Image

Swordmasters (Converted swordmaster champion and a banner of the night sky)
Image Image

Great eagles (Well they are actually wood elf hawks. But they look nicer then the regular GE model IMO)
Image

Ellyrian Reavers (The old metal reavers. First unit i painted in the army.)
Image

Chariot 1 (Pretty standard, a nice model IMO and didn't need to get pimped.)
Image

Chariot 2 (An old GW model, not sure which edition. It had a nice paintjob on it so didnt have to strip this one, just touched it up a bit with my own color scheme and added a banner. Sometimes i play it as a BSB just cause i think the model deserves more then just beeing a ordinary chariot.)

I really like your color scheme! A long time ago I wanted to do an army from Cothique and also ended up using Teal/Silver. I think the execution has been excellent throughout your army, and cannot wait to see more.

Great striking colour scheme! I really like the style and the little conversions - the RBT crew chilling over a bottle of cheap elven wine... :)

Rawr! A griffon managed to sqeeze itself too the front of the project list. The reason is that I wrote some campaign rules that me and my friends are trying out, and I suddenly found myself with a BSB riding a griffon in the army list. The BSB will be a converted Eltharion model with a flaming sword and the LSG banner from Island of blood box.

Some may find the "classic" white-blue scheme boring, I do love it. Well done.

That old 3rd edition chariot is moving me to tears (it's one of the few old edition I miss, ans still regret not buying it at the time, but I was a newbye...). And I love your old style Everqueen as well (so much better than the new model).

Once I read that one glass of wine increases creativity... I guess elven wine helps you create the lucky shot. I just got back from a wine tasting, 40+ different old world wines... I guess I am a little creative as well right now..

3rd edition you say! Cool, even older then I thought. Do you perhaps got an edition for these silver helms that I'm going to strip and paint?

3rd edition as well. Or, to be honest, they were selling both the chariot and these silver helms when I started playing, and it was 3rd edition.

You're in the ball park for sure. I honestly can't say for sure if they are 3rd ed or came out at the same time as the 1st Armybook (which would be 4th ed.) though. I just remember buying the armybook and some of those helms at the same time.

Progress report: Random stuff done this week.

A Ellyrian reaver musican built from spare models. Have been looking for old Ellyrian models for a time without luck, so built this one.

Hello again dear PLog! It sure have been a productive week. Today i finished 6 swordmasters in one day! Good on you lad. Will be running a unit of 21 SMoH in a 7x3 formation with BoTWD.
I should probably check with a psychiatrist regarding this urge to play with underdog units like SMoH and Griffons, but he will most likely be a +700 points deathstar player himself and just laugh at me =(

Its from Mierce miniatures, a company with a bit of a tattered reputation since the Maelstrom controversy a couple of years ago. Really nice model, detail and the parts fit together really good so the green stuff you see is only for the small gaps. Its a little to big to fit comfortably on a 50x100mm base though, you can squeeze it in, but i prefered to go 75x100. http://www.mierce-miniatures.com/index. ... bs_601_000

Went to take a picture of the beer and there must have been some kind of "Toy story" deal going on cause the beer was gone and these guys where there instead

Took me six months to finally finish my spearelves. 35 in total. The shield pattern was painstakingly slow to paint but worth it in the end.

Finally got to start on my frostheart after i finished the spears. Im very satisfied with the result sofar, its just painfully slow to paint this way. No washin and no drybrushing, just mixing in a bit of white every layer.
I hope the colorscheme will work out, im a bit afraid the purple will take over too much.

Those shadow elf heads really do make models look cool. Some of the elf helmets are too over the top - they're a good example of less sometimes being more.

My shadow warriors WIP, converted with WE wildwood ranger heafs. I still have a bit of greenstuffing and polishing to do, but will do that before painting them, in the year of 2016...hopefully :D

Hey, great job with Phoenix Guard and Shadow Warriors!
I like new PG models, but somehow I feel that helmets are not properly done, you make it looks much better.
Same for SW, hooded heads look great on them. I don't think that scout units would have full-face helmet, with narrowed eye sight!

Frostheart Phoenix done! This girl took me a looong time since I tried to get better at fading colours and not using dry-brushing at all. Don't know yet if I'm satisfied with the choice to "section" the colours like I did, instead of fading the whole phoenix in the same shade of blue. I tried to make it seem like a colourful plumage of real birds.
