Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.1.]
I really like the hoplite shields and the conversions. Now that I can actually post on here it's nice to be able to see that. Congrats on all the real life achievements too!

Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.1.]
So, they're not yet completely done and definitely need some work, but here's a status update
They absolutely REFUSE to rank up, and most of them are lacking their shields, but the paintjob is pretty much done

Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.2.]
Seem to be suffering from a giant image problem. It's blurry, and I'm guessing you intended it to be more of a unit picture (I could be wrong there). But it looks like you got some lion cav painted. If that's the case I'm looking forward to a nice picture.

Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.2.]
That's what happens when you try to upload something over the phone right before going to sleep
Maybe these will work out better?
As said, there's still a little work to be done, for example the shields need to be finished and the banner requires a bit of a touch-up (and if you see anything else, do point out so I can get a-fixing!). The ranking up is also a mission impossible as the tails currently are, so I'm going to have to bend or replace them with wire

10 of them, that is impressive. Those tails much make the 2nd rank pretty much impossible rank up perfectly. What did you do to the champions lion? It's got a nice pose.

Thank you! I think I still have 2 lions left over, planning on making a BSB and a mounted hero at some pointShannar, Sealord wrote:10 of them, that is impressive. The champion's lion is just a regular lion, but with a little bit of greenstuff under the rear paw painted as a rock to get the leaping angle
EDIT: The tails are the biggest hurdle, but since the lions are really not meant to rank up, some of the ones that DO rank up look like they're biting the rear ends of the ones in the front rank. I swear, it's like herding cats!

nice conversions with the griffons and the lion guard.
Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.2.]
Very clever conversions. I also like the sparse snow on bases - gives them a skyrimy feel
Where did you get those shields though? They look amazing! (If that had ben answered before I do apologize for not being a dilligent reader)

That is a stunning unit. 10 lions is impressive indeed. I can imagine the ranking issues they bring. Still, it's worth it for the look I think.
I do feel that the unit should cause fear After all, if you're a simple human and you have this unit barreling down on you then you're not going to discuss how they rank up nicely or not. You're just going to pray that they'll eat the guy next to you and that you're not the slowest runner in your unit...

As someone who had several regiments of the old skaven clan rats, I very much understand the horrors of ranking up units with tails.
I have a lion chariot to paint up soon, what colours did you use for yours?

Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.2.]
Thanks for all your kind and supporting words everyone!
The shields of the Lion Knights of Tor Charta are provided by MaxMini.eu, direct link here. You can ask him to just send you one kind of shields, I bought 20 of the Lion variant, so I still have 11 left over for...something. Maybe another unit of converted Silver Helms (see page three of this thread
As for the lion's colors, I went pretty basic. Black undercoat, Rakarth Flesh base and then mixing in increasing amounts of white. I think that I might add a few more layers at some point, but with everything that's going on right now I think that'll be a good year or more .
For the chariot itself, the green parts are the same as the armor: Black undercoat, Caliban green, Warpstone Glow highlights, Waywatcher green glaze.
All my golds are chocolate brown (can't remember the maker, not GW though), Auric Armor Gold, Agrax Earthshade, possibly Auric Armor highlights and Runefang Steel highlights.
Metal is just black undercoat, Runefang Steel, Nuln Oil, Runefang Steel.
Gems are black undercoat, 2/3 Khorne Red to leave 1/3 black in the "top" corner", 1/2 either Evil Sunz Scarlet or Wild Rider Red to leave a bit of the Khorne Red showing between the black and the lighter red, and a small Troll Slayer Orange at the "bottom" corner. Finally, a small white dot in the black area and a layer of gloss varnish.
Flesh is simple Kislev Flesh, Agrax Earthshade (which is too dark, going to change to a lighter shade), Kislev Flesh highlights, and MAYBE a mix of Kislev Flesh/Ushabti Bone highlight.
Eyes are black slits with two psycho tiny white dots (the most frustrating part)
Thank you! I always found it a bit odd that there was no clear regional feel to any of the units, no customization options in the kits to even hint at where the army comes from. I also needed to have something that would work as Drakon Riders (small, non-fire breathing drakes) in Kings of War, and as I don't like dragons or their pompous riders, I felt that griffons would work far better.Mireadur wrote:nice conversions with the griffons and the lion guard.
I thought so as well, the visuals were always my favorite part of Skyrim. Snow also fits Chrace very well, but fighting in full-on winter is unlikely, and Ulthuan being as close to a paradise as possible, I didn't think it'd look right to have full snow bases.Lynve wrote:Very clever conversions. The custom unit rules I wrote for them when I was still writing up a WHFB 8th edition custom list for Chrace actually gave them Fear! Maybe I can have my friends buy into the idea of making a custom unit for KoW as well, although I have fairly little experience with making custom units with that system. Shouldn't be impossible howeverPrince of Spires wrote:That is a stunning unit. 10 lions is impressive indeed. I can imagine the ranking issues they bring. Still, it's worth it for the look I think.

I'm thinking of cutting the tails just right off from the front rank, just to get them to rank up. The tails don't show up on them as much anyways, whereas the horrible ranking is painfully clear.Olthannon wrote:As someone who had several regiments of the old skaven clan rats, I very much understand the horrors of ranking up units with tails.

Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.2.]
Actually is a better idea to use griffons than newly invented small dragons, as these are smaller and should be much more common in the vast and numerous mountain ranges of Ulthuan. And definitely feels better when you are not using a Caledorian army.Luna Guardian wrote: Thank you! Of course, some of it is an approximation. But it helps in discussions and when buying paint.

It actually made me register to the forum as it inspired me to build a Chrace themed army.

Re: The Host of Lionstone [UPDATE 28.2.]
I'm super happy and humbled to hear that, I'm looking forward to seeing your army take shape! Sadly, most of my army is now complete, with only a few units and characters to finalize. Although that has been the case before, so I'm sure some new project for this army will catch my eye again, although it will probably be less normal unit focused (although I currently do have a second unit of spear elves under work) and more centerpiece style. I still have an Island of Blood worth of minis to paint, so who knowsNusphigor wrote:Very very beautiful army!

Heyo!
As a stress management tool in the midst of everything that's going on, I got back to painting! Finished my second unit of spearelves, still waiting to finish basing them though.
Closeup of the unit champion
Unit (without champion)
Lighting was bad and there's still probably a need for highlights for the gold trim on the shields, but with less than a week before my wedding, compromises had to be made

It's a great unit indeed. The green-white-gold works really well together. And combined with the round shields the unit has a very hellenistic feel to it. Looks great. With all the units you're putting out, it's slowly becoming time for a group picture...

Thank you, I wanted the champion to look like a spear-wielding captain for once, rather than the usual "sword denotes the leader" type. The chariot spear worked really well, but needed to be pointed suitably upwards to allow the unit to fit with an enemySpellArcher wrote:The unit looks great Luna, especially the poses and the champion is nicely defined.
